I work at Federal Cartridge in Anoka, MN. Federal is owned by ATK, which owns about 20 different gun/hunting related companies, like Eagle industries, Speer, CCI, shooter's ridge, Alliant powders, RCBS. We also operate Lake City Army mmunition plant, in Independence, MO, which I have toured.
List of companies owned by ATK I work the production floor area Federal, assembling and performing quality control on the commercial and military small arms munitions. Who out there works for Winchester, Remington, Hornady, Cor-Bon, Wolf, etc.? I'd like to get some discussion going about our various work places. To start: we are non-Union at Anoka facility. EDIT: ATK just aquired Blackhawk, as well. They seem pretty happy about it, which is (rumored) nOT to be the case with ATK's aquisition of Eagle industries. EDIT: Disclaimer: my views/comments/statements/opinions are not nescessarily those of Federal cartridge/ATK.

No free samples...except the occasional hat or ID card neck strap or shirt from marketing.
XM193 is really military rejects, packaged many different ways. It comes from Lake City in 35 gallon steel cannisters, packed loose, by semi. LC has already rejected it for military, and we go through and QC it again and put it into...whatever packaging it gets that day. We also put it on clips in 30 round boxes by the case. It gets dumped and re-dumped several times in 30.000 round lots and trucked around the floor and dropped into and out of steel hoppers, thus explaining some of the dings. Depending on whether you get a "gun guy" working the machines that day, depends on the quality of the product. I'm sorry to say that most days, you are getting non-gun guys and girls working these lines. |

Not employed in a related field, but a question none the less. I have a few boxes of various cal Independence ammo. Is this produced by Federal?
Is any of the 5.56 ammo produced headed to the Iraqi govt to fuel the A2's we supplied them with? Are your projectiles made in house? or shipped in from a seperate supplier? |

does your factory sell seconds? The plant in Lewiston, Idaho sells blems and pulls to a local store, who resells them. We do get seconds for sale to employees at steeply discounted prices. However, over the last year, we have been unable to pull much of anything out military or small rifle (223/556). I see that Winchester also is selling their blems at cabela's. We have people coming up from Lewiston and Lake City to buy seconds at Anoka, so i am very concerned that this great benefit is getting restricted. Lewiston employees: are you getting any seconds for sale at all anymore out of your plant? |

So you can buy black box XM193, and some will have bullets made by Federal, and another box can have bullets made by a supplier? |

More tommorrow. BUT BB Xm193 is all from LC, and someone from there will need to answer where the bullets come from. We QC and box it. |
