If a chili is already thick enough to stand a wooden spoon in (without beans, flour, maze, tomato paste, etc, etc), what purpose does adding beans serve?

Beans are a lot cheaper than beef.   Cost savings is the main reason I would add beans to chili.

Translates to 'on the contrary, my brother'

I make some chicken sausage with habenaros and Hatch chilis that is pretty awesome.

Everybody who has ever tried it has asked for the recipe or an invite for me to teach them next time I make it.

Homemade chicken sausages are as different from store bought as real chili is from canned chili with beans.

Beans are flavorless on their own.  They take on the flavors of whatever they are cooked with.

And yes, they are a stretcher used by the poor to make a pot of chili go farther.

Beans taste good? Also gives you more chili if you're poor.

Both of which are acceptable when you're poor.

But I was under the impression that most of us aren't poor.

I didn't realize we had to match our food to our income levels. Are you going to tell me that my love of ramen noodles has to end because I make too much money, or that I have to give up on eating SOS for breakfast?

Apple Chili?  WTF?

I mean don't get me wrong, I love apples, but... APPLE CHILI?  fuck that.
I'll toss in some hot cinnamon to apple sauce sure, hell even try dillo dust in it, or something spicier... but ... apples do NOT belong in my meatless/beanless chili soup sauce.

It's all about standards...

I have a sneaking suspicion it's Hiram Ranger.

He has reasonable cause to do so.

He's tolerating the flaws of a hot sammich maker.
Kind of like how I let it pass when my wife watches shitty TV

How can the numbers for beef and chili peppers not match up?  I think this poll has been bombed by DU.

No....chicken sausage with apples in it. Not Chili....although some Yankee will likely be alongshortly to sing the praises of apple chili.

In addition to ground turkey and beans, a healthy serving of rice and potatoes.

I did.  It's a good way to boost the protein level of the stuff if you're hurting for cash.  Crumble it up and it does a half way decent imitation of ground beef.

You can use TVP too.  Both of em just absorb whatever flavors you're cooking with.

Tell Obama you failed to subvert ARFCOM chili. Never mind. NSA will report in.
