I wish I would have dropped the $1000 deposit for it |

In the late 80s, the owner of a shop owed me a favor and offered me one in perfect condition for $400. I passed. |

A 1919 I saw at the gunshow in Spokane about 4 years ago...$1500 with the tripod.
I still wish I had bought it. |
Bought a Ruger Mini in 84 or 85 for $300 and just couoldn't go that $430 fro a new Colt H-bar Ar. Hell if I had stayed out of the bars for a month I would have had enough for the Colt at the next show.
I saw a Marlin 30-30 for about $150 at the Frisco show last month. It looked like hell......like it had been in a gun rug under a bed for about 20 years. Wishe now I had picked it up anyway. |
Ouch. |

a HK940 I saw at a gun show. The guy selling it brought it in, wanting to sell it to one of the people with a section at the show, and didnt know how much it was worth, or what it really was. I didnt have enough cash there, but I would have offered him a lot more than what he sold it to that dealer for. The rifle was in like-new condition, but he sold it to the dealer for $450

A '69 Harley Sporster for $ 300... Oh.. guns? I've not missed a trick yet.

An M16A1 for $4200 from a guy in Lawton, OK.
My wife even said it was ok. We need an animated icon of a smiley getting his ass kicked by a boot. |
M1A Standard with scope (I forget what kind, but it was pretty goood) in a package at the Harrisburg Gun Show three years back.
$800. I was looking at a pistol or HK USC (eventually bought a USP). So I passed on it. My local gun store owner called me "an idiot". Same gunstore owner said he could probably find me a USC for around that. I also passed. I could have a UMP conversion by now. |
A guy was walking around the gun show a few years ago with a pre ban daewoo with a folding stock and whatever else. Don't know much about them (besides the fact I know they are rare).
He wanted $400 for it and I just didn't have the cash or could get him to trade. Did pass up on a Hesse AR15 for $1000 though. |
I'm surprised no has said they regret not fighting harder against the legislation that caused all these sad stories.
an image hosted by tripod for $900 sounds like a rip-off to me |
Can't really fight against Executive Orders, which is what caused a good portion of this. |
A pre-89 Poly-Tec Underfolder for $550. I would have to say it was about 98% condition too. Had box, manual, everything.
Also a SAR-1 and another SAR-2 when they were selling for $300 |

True Story:
In 1994 I wanted an AR15 really, really badly. I was dead broke, but I had credit.. Rifles were still really expensive because prices hadn't stabilized as the ban had just started. I came across a 20" Bushy HBAR in the Shotgun News and the seller was about 20 minutes away. Price was $1400 with 10 mags and 1,000 rounds. Gun had 60 rounds through it. Made arrangements to go over that night. So I show up at this guys property and go into his pole barn as instructed. There's a lot of strange looking animals in cages that I couldn't identify (he told me, but I forget). I hear him call from the upstairs to "Come on up"so I make my way to the lighted stairs and cross a subgun (SW76, didn't know what it was at the time) along the way. I was scared shitless... The whole caged animals, gun laying around, I was ready to leave before I saw him. He met me at the top of the stairs and shook hands and we walked around the corner. I couldn't believe what I saw.. It was lavishly furnished, all kinds of exotic game trophies on the wall, and STACKS of gun cases in one corner of the room. We exchange pleasantries and he explains the situation. He's a restuarantuer, and is getting divroced. He wants to sell his guns so that the wife doesn't get the money. Apparently the guy is a total gun whore and has done a lot of African safaris, total playboy, but married a woman who became a totally different person after they got married. So we stitch up the deal for the AR and he asks if I might be interested in an SR-25? A what? It's a .308cal AR sniping rifle, I've even got the Leupold scope for it.. it's over here.." My black-rifle-Fu was weak at the time, but I could tell that it was a special gun by looking at the weapon, case, and accessories. "I'll let you have it for $4K" "Man, I wish I could-I'm having to do the AR on credit as it is.." "How about payments-$100 a month?" "Ahh, I don't know,..You would take payments on a $4k rifle from a stranger?" "I know where you live!" (he asked for my DL when taking care of the AR) "Man, I'd like to but I just don't think I can." I shit you not.... Dave BTW: What kind of IDIOT leaves a C&R machinegun out in the open for me to grab on the way out? He didn't even walk me out! |
July 1986. Just started a new job, and went to the gun shop with my paycheck. There was a guy there that had just walked with an HK MP5 that he wanted to sell with4 mags. He wanted $950. Ohhh what an idiot I was, I passed. I still think about that mistake today.

The first gun show I ever went to I saw NIB Uzi's with P.C. features (January 1995). They were going for $500. Here's the kicker ....
They were all marked and packaged in Mossburge boxes. |
He sounded like he was in a bad position and DID know where you lived. Maybe it was a trap! |
I see you died for your high ideals. |

1983: Offered a Colt C.A.R. with an untied DIAS for $1500 + stamp.
1984: Offered an Israeli Uzi Full Auto UZI for $600 + stamp. There are others, but those two really burn. |
I had a similar deal on a P7M13 I passed on ,though not near as sweet a deal as you had ,but I still regret not getting the pistol. |
Went into Bangers warehouse to pick up a order for a local gun store I was working part-time for.
Its about 1987-88 range , before the inport ban. They were the inporter for the FN-FNC and had them stacked to the ceiling , dealer price at the time $335.00 , all you wanted. And I had a "hobby" FFL at the time. DAMM |

.45-70 trapdoor carbines for $9.95 out of a barrel in a hardware store in the early 60s.
I turned 21 in 1985. I strongly regret not selling everything I owned and buying class 3 stuff. At the time, I just could not fathom paying that rediculous $200 tax.

44 Auto Mag, NIB, 2 barrells $800, 475 Wildey LNIB, can't remember the price, but well under $1000.

Lahti 20 mm anti-tank rifle.
Boys .55 caliber anti-tank rifle. Semiauto M1928 Thompson when they were still available in Cali. Egyptian Model 98 Mauser variant made by Arisaka of Japan. That had a sliding dust cover over the receiver. And on and on and on and on and on. |
That gives me chest pains, my dad constantly says how much he wishes he would have bought MG when they were cheaper and it was easier to do. I am too young to have done so, but almost anytime I see him and we talk guns he curses himself for not doing it. |

I passed on a Pre-70 series Colt 1911 from a retiring PD Sgt., I was told he originally bought it in the late 50's - eary 60's(?) when he was younger. He offered to sell it to me for $200 cash and that was about 2 years ago.
I'm still kicking myself to this day about that one. |
Forgot to add mine, M-1 carbine for $150. Not sure which manufacturer, but it was pretty good condition. Was a neighbor of mine who did not know what it was, it was his father's and probably a bring back or gotten after the war. I could not do it, told him to keep it in the family where it belongs. Part of me says I did the right thing, part of me says "your a dumbass". More so the latter, because he probably sold it anyway.

i'm too young. all the good stuff was banned way before i was old enough to start buying them, and is vastly more expensive now then i will ever be able to afford. |
Bushmaster Varmint Special
Less than 50 rounds put through it. $600 |
barey used Glock 30 for $325. STILL kicking myself in the ass for that one.

Layaway is your friend....... I doubt a dealer would let you layaway a transferrable M16 or something like that, but that is how I get a lot of my firearms except for three times. 1)Tax Return 2)When I work a lot of o.t. 3) The unlikely event that I actually get some extra money from an unexpected source, and I decide not to put it in savings. |
Damn. Remind me next time you're in town and I'll kick you over that one. |
