Silly question, do you get any special rank upgrade if you are an Eagle Scout?

I heard that you do when I made Eagle Scout when I was 16 or so and considered going into the military many many many moons ago...

Just curious what that would rank that would be and if that really is the case.

If I am not mistaken an Eagle Scout can go in directly as a PFC (E3), in the Army.

If you have a college degree, or some number of credits, you can enlist as an E-4 on day 1.

Yes.

I went into the Marine Corps as an E-2 because I was an Eagle Scout. The same thing can be done in the Army.

No Shit... Never knew that about Eagle scouts...

My Senior drill instructor asked were there any Eagle Scouts in my platoon and than appoint those of us who were as either the guide, squad leaders, scribes etc.  And being in those positions got promoted meritoriously.

In my old unit?  Absolutely nothing except Corporal stripes.  It was just a way of showing appreciation to E4P's that were screwed on getting E5 due to points or other slots but the unit still wanted to recognize them until they got E5.

Corporal went to PLDC.

In a world where we have SGTs who haven't been to WLC - and not as conditional promotions, but as perminant rank - that's pretty unlikely...

I was in a unit once that made a SPC into a CPL at Friday formation just so they'd have an NCO to pull vehicle-search detail that weekend...

I was in WLC with a PFC. units get slots, not every place is like the NG

It depends upon the MOS....I forget.

I went from PFC to Spec/4 after 15 months Total Service Time.

Oh, yeah: I was never a Corporal

Navy as well. Several hard-chargers in boot took the shitty high-profile get-beat-by-the-whole-CoC jobs in boot to try for a meritorious promotion to E2. I hid in the corner, kept my head down and mouth shut and graduated as an E3.

My son told me that "E-4 Promotable" was the worst rank in the Army.  All the work and responsibilty of a NCO but you are still a Spec-4.  At least as a Corporal you got the recognition of being a NCO.  E-4 Promotable you get nothing but the work.

This is it. I was both a specialist and a corporal as a 12B. Once I got corporal  Iwas given nco responsibility before my E-5 promotion.

When we were learning rank in Basic Training. One of our Drill Sgts held up the corporal rank card and said "see this? if you ever get this. Somebody hates you"

Corporals get to be pecker checker at the surprise urinalysis, and also get the "Well, uh...you know, we sorta forgot that SGT Smith was on pass this weekend, and put him on the CQ schedule, so we're gonna need you to come in this weekend. BTW, you're 45 minutes late, and SGT Jones would like to go home now..." phone calls.

Fuck that.  That is a piss poor bottom feeding mentality from whichever "leader"(probably 1SG or CSM) that allowed that to happen.  Them not making cutoff isn't the unit's fault.  It's the individual Soldier's fault.

I'll pin corporal on a guy only if he's in a real leadership position, is promotable with a reasonable chance of making cutoff in the next light year, and is asshole enough to wear those two stripes.

There's only so many slots for a unit.  It's a "way" of promoting the guy higher than Spc. while waiting for an E5 slot to open.

If you don't have orders for your rank, then you're just an 'acting' Corporal.

depends, I had to wait longer becuase my company had too many Sp4s, when one was promoted to E5 it freed up the slot for me.

Yes, no orders...just frocked and means nada outside your company...

It's funny to me, as a former Marine now in the National Guard, to watch the Spec Mafia.  It was the Lance Jack Mafia in the Corps...same idea and same crew, but the Army guys make more money.

I loved being a Corporal of Marines.  Less responsibility than a Sergeant, and I didn't get fucked with like the non-rates.
