If it's 1985 then I'm a time traveler. Therefore I carry a Glock 19 gen 3.

Probably something like a 2.75" Speed Six, realistically.
But a Smith 439 would be cool, albeit unconventional. |
|
Probably a worked over Hi-Power, everything else is just too damn big.

Quoted: Well, akshually... There was possibly a double digit, possibly single digit number (not sure) of Glock 17s imported prior to 1986. At least 4 of those are probably collecting dust at ANNAD if they weren't sent back after they lost to the Beretta 92. It took acts of congress to get those fucks to let CMP sell some of the clapped out POS 1911s, so they will probably stay there long enough to find out if the frame or the slide will whither away due to the passing of geologic scale time. Any others that made it out into private hands would probably be collector's pieces worth more than some transferable machine guns. All of this disregards the worst (most likely) possibility: all of them at some point or another got fed to Capt'n crunch. So I'm saying there;s a chance. My edc gun in 1985 was a double action revolver that looked like an old single action, with roll caps.
In about 1990, it was upgraded to a Crosman spring action 1911 bb gun that shot darts and pellots as well as bbs. Carried that for years! On many neighborhood night missions as well. |

Snub-nose .357 or PPK probably. I don't know what else in that size class was out there considering it was before I was born

I carried these at times in 1985:
- S&W model 36 Chief's Special - Llama .45 (w/trigger job, used in competitions) - Baby Browning .25 - COP 4-shot .357 Magnum derringer (kept in glove box mostly) Before 1985, those plus a Sterling MKII .380 and even an open-bolt M-11 .380 a couple of times (had a DeSantis shoulder holster). I didn't carry all the time but now and then. Also had a KG-99 but don't remember carrying it except in the trunk. I was a landlord in 1985 and owned five houses in the crappy part of the city. I got a S&W 669 in 1988 and that is one of the best handguns I ever had, I don't think it was available in 1985. If I could go back in time, I would carry a S&W Model 59 and a Detonics .45. |

I’d have to wait a couple of years for the Sig P228. Before that, some sort of .32.

The likelihood of any of them making it into private hands (ever) is close enough to zero that it's basically zero. There could be some pre-86 produced Glock 17s that got imported later, somehow, but not very many and they would also be collector's pieces worth quite a bit. Anyway I think it was just a boomer post in the same category as guys that claim they used to shoot 1 moa, 1" groups at 25m with their iron sight M16s. |

1985?

Hi power. It's still great today and has been around forever.

Quoted: OP, are you figuring on going back in time or something? LOL At that time I would probably want a 'Lightweight Commander', CZ-75 or S&W Model 59. View Quote Thought experiment. And I should have specifically stated you would be the adult you are now, but in 1985 with lawful carry. The answers so far are remarkably cogent. |

View Quote So it was an idiot troll post like we had called it then earlier? Integrity being exposed as worthless just because they could not mention Glock in a gun thread? lol, wow. Boomer's were the first one's to buy Glocks, so it's also a Boomer gun just like the 1911. Marvelously ironic. |

I would go with a J frame. Probably a model 36. Standard magna grips with a Tyler T Grip.

I was 1. If I was older I'd probably carry a m66 like I do now. Just an older one.
My m19-3 is from 69. Attached File Attached File |

Let me correct this, in 1985 it was a S&W Model 39-2 that I bought new, later around 1996 it was a S&W 2.5" HB Model 10 with a custom fit Model 13 .357 cylinder.
I severely regret trading and/or selling either of those hand guns. They were lovely, beautiful firearms, classics. I'd still love to find a nice Model 39-2. |

Either a J frame Smith or a 1911 because they both work. Which one would depend on weather and what I am doing same as now.
|
|
J frame - small light easy to conceal and the world wasn’t as crazy
|
|
The same Browning BDA with heel mag release aka SIG P220 in .45 I owned back then & own, or the S&W 36 I still own.
The Belgian HiPower is just too purty for carry, aka safe queen. |
