Going by rock radio play, the 80's and the last 10-15 years have been, and were, very very very very bad.

70s stunk except for select few.

80s, the music, the hair, GREAT stuff,  David Lee Roth swinging over the audience while Eddie ripped up that red striped up FrankenCaster, what's not to love about that.  Panama, 1984.  Def Leppard, Duran Duran (yep even pop, euro stuff was fun)

90s grunge was just a bit to morose.  The Alternative scene really took off and presented some good indie music.  GooGoo Dolls, is a great band from the era.

2K, well meh, Rock and Roll died...  :( expect Dave Matthews

These days, great music, just turn off the radio.  Fall Out Boy saved or resurrected rock, Bastille from the euro side of the pond.  Even Bruno Mars stuff is fun to listen too.  For singer/songwriter stuff Ed Sheeran is an incredible talent, a one man band who uses technology but does not let the looper or autotune rule his music.  He literally plays the looper to fill in where he has no band but makes the loops on the stage as part of the music instead of a prerecorded backing track.

Not a huge fan of any country stuff but I have gone to Kenny Chesney and he puts on a good solid show.

There were some bands in the 1970s that soldiered on and did their own thing, like Led Zeppelin... who were ACTUALLY a late-60s band that still hung around.

Same with CSNY and Clapton.

The names in bold above are the very reason, the very essence, of the worst decade in rock music history. You only have to add disco to push it into the lowest circle of music hell.

The 1960s, the 1980s and the first decade of the 2000s were the best.

The 1970s and the 1990s SUCKED!

The 70s defined good music. It was the best decade for music, period.

Now, there was a lot of total crap that came out in the 70s too. But that’s how it is with art. For every brilliant piece you get two are three merely good pieces, a dozen ok pieces, and a hundred pieces of crap. You can’t judge how good a decade is for music by how much bad music was made in that decade.

And it’s not just the amount of good music, it’s the diversity of that good music. I know most people don’t have as wide a taste in music as I do. But there’s something in the 70s for everyone.

And that's just scratching the surface.

Steely Dan is one of the best groups to come out of the 70's. It's still my favorite group, along with Donald Fagen's solo material. The 70's also gave us Heart, the Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones... no there was plenty good from the 70's. The 90's sucked ass.

Steely Dan rules.

I never walked out of a store, restaurant, or bar because the noise environment made me want to do horrible things to people until fairly recently.  Now it happens quite often.  Some of that is because I'm such an old fart but some of it is because the noise is so horrible.  Stupid has become very popular lately in music and in life in general but it is still stupid.  Unfortunately it is not as painful and deadly as it once was and needs to be.

None of the prior decades of music scenes can possibly equal the suck we are currently experiencing in music.  Slayer should be armed with beltfeds and sent to the next Grammys to make things right!

2010 to Current..........all of the new music now SUCKS!! It's all a bunch of crap that is saved, or attempted to be saved but autotuneing the crap out of it, and running it through the editing process 100 times until you can make it sound half way decent. It's all the same old stuff.....nothing original.  It's all about the money, not about the music.

I don't know where the 70's suck crowd has come from but the only thing that sucked in the 70's was a lot of the disco movement. The 80's was good other than Rap and the offshoot hip hop garbage. Nobody has done anything worth listening to since the mid 90's.

LOL!!  The 70's produced GREAT music.  Most of the people commenting on 70's music probably weren't even born then.

Boston
Jethro Tull
The Stones
Led Zepplin
Lou Reed
ZZ Top
Fleetwood Mac
Rod Stewart
Bruce Springsteen….. he had some good songs in the 70's
The Eagles
Uriah Heep
AC/DC
The Who
Pink Floyd

AND many others.

Fucking kids!!

Ill say the 70's as a whole yet they produced some of the best music ever.  Yet as a whole (Think Captian and Tenile .SP.) and ABBA they kinda sucked.  Id also throw the 2000's as a runner up.  The 2000's sucked hard
