funny, most guys are loading their AK with the cheapest ammo they can find.  The same guys are loading their AR with expensive TAP.

How many tries do I get? Can I use the whole 30 round mag?

You'd be surprised though. One of my WASRs with a new bore in it actually grouped nicely with Golden Tiger. I shot it when it was new and clean. I have yet to clean the bore since (how many AR guys can say that), and accuracy has decreased some, but it is actually a decent shooter. I bet I could get a round on target (we're talking IPSC silhouette size here) at 300 yards with only a couple rounds. All depends on the rest...

How often are you going to be engaging a target at 300 yards?

Not here.
The AR has 68 grain Hornady OTM loaded to NATO pressure (I forget the fps).
The AK has Winchester 125 grain SP at 2440 fps.
The M1 is not loaded, but the ammo belt is 5 clips A-Max, 3 BT, and two FMJ.

The 1911 has Gold Dot HP all loaded up.
Beretta 92SB has some Winchester 124 grain HP loaded hot.

Yes, I know;  Massad would be disappointed in me.  I will get over it somehow.

At 300 yards I have time to get the M1 out.

124gr Sapsan JHPs (8M3).

When I run out, I will use the same stuff under the Wolf Military Classic lineup.

Where are you folks getting the 125gr Lapua Mega Spire Point?

Winchester Super-X 125 grain soft point.  It does great on deer, should do fine on anything 2-legged.

Though I'm considering going to the 122 grain Wolf JHP, as the ammo oracle smiles favorably upon it as a self-defense load, and it is much cheaper than the Winchester (which cost a pretty penny to fill three mags!).  My wife demands a rifle and 200 rounds EACH for our two cars, so the Win Super-X would be too expensive for that (and Wal-Mart stopped carrying it!) but the Wolf JHP would fit the bill.

I dont think the oracle is high on the 122gr JHPs.  Its the 124gr JHPs.

Just remember this:

Black Box = Bad

Tan Box = Good

The Mil. Classic shipped in a green camo box and had mil-spec lacquer cases at it's introduction. They later switched over to the polymer coated case and a tan camo box.

Can you make an AR for $300?[peep]

Nope, but I've had lots of them over the years and I'm burned out on AK's.  To me, they are not that much fun to shoot compared with my M1A, my AR's or my Daewoo, for example...

Althought I can't build a $300 AR, I'd wager that you don't own an AK that can keep up accuracy-wise with any of the above mentioned

Yes, I built this one for $365:

And I have another upper for a cav arms lower that I will be into for a complete one for $295

Care to explain how you built that one for $365?

20-round mag of Wolf MC HPs.  If I feel like it, I'll swap the 20-rounder out with two 30-rounders coupled, but only if I'm expecting Zombies!
