Found a NIB S&W 686-5 mountain gun that all in all I ended up having around 160.00 into after trading (he listed it for 600.00)....I sold it for 1400.00. I found a brand new set in package of S&W goncalo alves combat grips in a shop that I snagged for 30.00....flipped on ebay for around 220.00 if I remember correctly.

My dad found a Pablo Picasso sketch from the early 1950s at a garage sale in FL in 1991 for $10. Behind the sketch in a frame was a hand written note by the artist too. It was authenticated, and is currently valued north of $20k.
My best find was a CMP lottery M1D Garand unissued with all accessories for $900 at an estate sale in 2011. Came with the box and all paperwork from CMP. |

1994, saw an yard sale add, in local small town newspaper, usual stuff, also said music and band equipment.
Got there early, recognized old woman, family had a Yamaha shop, I raced for them, 20 or so years earlier. Got a 1978 Gibson Les Paul Custom, olive green silver sunburst for $250.00. Still had the plastic on pick guard. And a Peavey VT Classic amp, 2x10, for $200.00. (could have got amp for $50.00) Was bought for her son, he was paralyzed in flat track crash. Offered her more, she said 'that's fine, you helped us out." Guitar was literally never played. |

Heard a pawn shop had a couple M1 carbines (not repos). This was about 15 yrs ago. I went down to take a look intent on bringing ONE home with me. Guy wanted $350 for either one. I sat there forever behind the counter trying to decide when a guy walked in and said "cool, are those for sale?" I said, "nope, I just bought em both!"
Those weren't a steal at that price at that time, but still on the lower end of what they were being priced at. They've definitley climbed in price since then! |

1998 or so co-worker said his Mom had an old guitar, belonged to her Father.
He told me it was kind of a small wood guitar, had inlay on by tuners (peg head) that said 'The Gibson.' Is a nice old original Gibson L3 made in 1929, original case, old orange boxed string sets, AND, an pat pending nickel D'Armond pickup, and little tube amp. Also one of the rubber change holders, slit in it to carry your change. Played a tune, she cried. "No on ever played that since Pop Pop died in 1950, sat in a closet since 1950. Gave her $250.00, she wanted WAY less, good deal. Sweet Guitar. No good deals lately, except for pretty much NOS Martin D12-20, not yard or pawn shop. |

Dubl-Duk Satinedge for $7.00 at a yard sale. I own a lot of fancier and pricier straight razors, but it is one of the best to use. Have seen them bring 150.00 on ebay.

Bought a bunch of guns from a guy who inherited them and knew nothing about them. Paid very little for the lot... somewhere around $3K bucks.
He threw in a box full of knives for another $100. I paid him, took it all home. Didn't know anything about knives, but I quickly learned. There were still receipts in some of the boxes, most unopened packages and such. Protech, Microtech, Boker, Benchmade, Kabar, some handmade custom stuff, Crawford, etc... Sold many of them for thousands of dollars collectively. Sold off whatever guns I didn't want for cheap too. Basically got a bunch of free guns in the end. |

I just got a shit load of Sig braces off the EE for next to nothing...practically giving them away ...shit, beat by a mile
Just kidding, best score was a nice, brand new Cabela's parka for $1.50. That Norinco 1911 for 100 bucks... |

I have snagged a lot of pretty good deals on CL and the local Pawn shop. I snagged a Kennedy tool box for $25.
Use Amazon Smile. Right before you buy something, click the "used" tab to check if Amazon warehouse has one with a damaged box. I got a 6 1/2" Wilton vise for 1/2 retail because the box was thrashed. |

My buddy owns a moving company. I personally don't work with him but many friends do and they all have good stories.
One day they were moving a lady out of her house to move in with her son and DIL because her husband had recently passed. As they were boxing up a closet, my good friend came upon a couple of older pellet guns and a pistol pouch. He immediately went to the wife and her son to give them the guns. Apparently no one knew about their fathers "evil" guns and immediately asked that they be taken to the police dept or sheriffs office for proper disposal. Because the gun was in a locked pouch, they couldn't really tell what it was exactly but they did get that it was a type of Colt pistol. My friend, being a gun guy, offered to dispose of the weapons himself and would even give them money. The son was somewhat hesitant but decided that that would be ok. My buddy asked him how much he wanted and they both decided that they'll think about it and come up with a price before the end of the day. At the end of the day, my buddy went to the guy and offered him $200. The son said that he was thinking a different amount... He was going to ask $100 but was going to give everyone a $60 tip so lets just say $20 and it's yours. (I realize that doesn't add up) So for $20, he got a Colt Model 1903 hammerless that is in mint condition. The finish is absolutely pristine and it's possible that it was never even shot. It didn't come with a magazine and I think a reproduction cost him around $50 or so. So he has $70 into it.

My dad is the king of this sort of thing
My favorite is the time he bought a box of junk costume jewelry at a yard sale. His intention was to pull all of the "stones" out for some type of art project he was working on. One caught his eye because of the "Chinese" writing on the ring, and it was heavy He knew it was gold due to the weight, he tried to find someone to interpret the "Chinese" writing. Turns out the writing was Thai, and it was a 19th century 24K gold ring with a 3 karat natural ruby that once belonged to a member of the King's palace guard. He still wears it. |

My gf father stopped at a garage sale last year. There was an ammo can under one of the tables. He picked it up and there was some ammo loose in it. He called me at work and said "I've got what looks like .223 here. what does LC76 mean?" I told him to buy it whatever it was. He came home with an ammo can, 7 20 colt mags full of ammo, and 2 other bandoliers in the original green cloth with all the ammo still in the cardboard and stripper clips. I think it is like 300 or 400 rounds total of 76 and 77 LC. $20. I figure that paid for the ammo can and the rest of the stuff was free.

Yesterday I saw the face of hoarding. Huge house packed to the gills with crap - some trash, some nice, but you damned near couldn't find anything. I got 2 sewing machines for $45 - a singer 99 that's worth about $100 and a Japanese import from the 70's that should be good for some heavy duty sewing.
Just emailed him asking if he has any guns. |
