I "stock" every caliber I own.... (1000 rounds) but the only ones I "stockpile" would be 9mm and .223.  Everything else is 1000 rounds.

Now that I am reloading, I will "stockpile" components and wont be so concerned about having a lot of new ammo.  I just buy a lot when it goes on good sales, like the $84/k of 9mm and $144/k of Q3131A at Bass Pro from time to time.  But those days might be over for a while.

Sure would like to see some of that $0.11/round South African stuff again!

HOLY SHIT!

I don't have 10,000 rounds of ammo total!

Why not???

I only have 2,569 rounds.

5.56 - 660
7.62x39 - 600
.22 LR - 420
.458 SOCOM - 188

My Kung Fu is weak.

However, this is all defensive ammo. With the exception of .458 SOCOM, I buy ammo at the range every time I go. I never dip into my "around the house" ammo.

.223 68gr JHP
.308 match for rem700
.40 JHP for carry gun

Once I reach 1k of .223, 200 of .308, 250 of .40,  of the Nice ammo, then I'll start stockpiling the less expensive target quality stuff.

and oh yes, I have roughly 5k of .22, I'll stop when I reach 10k.

.22 LR:  Keep 10,000 rounds.

.45 ACP:  1000 rounds

12-gauge with 1 1/2 oz of #2's, 3 1/2 dram, :  20 boxes.
12-gauge dove loads:  4 cases

The way I figure it, I can pound a head sized target at 50 yards easy with the .22 and is has a night scope on it.  They are cheap, too.  I shoot a 1000+ each year and rotate them.

The .45 is for up close personal work if needed.

The 12-guage is just plain utility stuff that will pound hard and dense out to 50 yards if I have the turkey choke on (1 1/2 foot diameter spread).

In a single week, I just ordered:

4X1000 of Lake City XM193
7x750 of Barnaul 5.45x39 60gr FMJ
4x700 of ULY 7.62x39 124gr FMJ

Guess I the stockpiling bug in a bad way.

9mm for the subgun

5.56 for the AR15s, AR180, Mini14

7.62X51 for the AR10

50BMG for the AR50

These are the ones I keep in quanity. I usually have a collective of a couple thousand rounds for everything else.

I burn thru at least 25 or 30 bricks of .22 a year. I will admit I am somewhat of a ammo horder. I store it in ammo cans in steelcase lockable filing cabinets I buy at auctions. 4 ammo cases to a drawer[50cal]. My wife did raise an eyeball when she found out that they were not full of old magazines as she thought.  I replace what I shoot so even if prices skyrocketed or "whatever" I would have many years of shooting ahead.
