Bigfoot?  They're quick... damn quick. Not to mention they smell like a a*s. I had stalked one for 22 days up in Wenatchee, Washington. I picked up it's trail around the North end of the Chiwawa River heading dew east. I found it rather difficult to match the pace of this creature, which appeared to be of enormous size judging by the prints that were left in the mud & soil.... 30" plus inches and very deep. This creature (we'll call it Dingleberry, get into that later) seemed only to travel aggressively at night which gave me the opportunity to close the distances during day and to continue throughout the night. At times during short periods of sleep throughout the night I could smell & hear the presence of something that I've never encountered in all my years of Military or Civilian life. It would literally raise the hairs on your back & make you want to vomit from fear. At that time, I knew Dingleberry was on to me but I still pressed on for a glimpse of this beast. Around day 15 I got my chance.

While coming down off a peak in early morning hours near Lake Chelan I witnessed for a brief moment, Dingleberry dropping a*s near a row of pines... I kid you not, it was squatting & at first glimpse I wasn't quite sure what it was doing but later discovered the answer to that question. Upon examining the deposits from the creature, I noticed the presence of pine needles, berries & hair with clumps of droppings attached to it... hence, Dingleberry. I gathered the evidence and stowed it in my ruck and pressed on. I followed his trail for the remaining of the time winding NorthWest along the Lake and heading towards, what I imagined, Bonanza Peak.

Day 21, night fell and I had just caught up to him.. he seemed to be camped towards the top of a Peak in a heavily pined area. I decided, this was my chance... this is the closest I've come to him & the way the land was laid out, I had a good opportunity to sneak up on Dingleberry for a closer look and maybe even "bag" the big guy. I made a make shift camp and starting gearing up with my Ghillie suit and rubbed down with some of the droppings that I recovered earlier to "cover" my scent. I stowed my gear there and proceeded up a ridge line that would overlook his position. I took about 4 hours to work myself into place that overlooked the creature from 20 foot, almost directly overhead. He appeared to be sprawled out next to some medium sized trees with some branches covering part of his torso & I believed him to be sleeping because of lack of movement.

With this perfect opportunity, I pulled out my Gold Plated Desert Eagle .50 AE, careful not to make any noise and drew down on his head. I eased the hammer back & gently squeezed the trigger until it clicked.... s**t, I had forgotten to rack the slide and put one in the chamber. By then, Dingleberry had open his eyes & looked straight up at me and let out this ear screeching yell. From this point on things are a bit blurry. I jumped up and threw the Desert Eagle down at him to try and confuse him for a split second and leaped off the ledge, with knife drawn (SOG, Navy SEAL addition) hoping to get a good stick at one of it's arteries as I landed on him. I didn't happen quite like that though.

As I was falling through the air, Dingleberry had risen and moved outta the way & I smacked straight into the ground... thud. I had then felt something grab my leg and pick me up off the ground while ripping my pants off. I was starting to slip into unconsciousness from the impact and sheer fear... not to mention that I had pissed myself at this time. When I had awaken it was just starting to get light & I was nowhere that I recognized. I also noticed the lack of cloths & a sticky film like substance on my back that stunk like h*ll. I managed to gather my senses & crawl to a high point to get my bearings and found my way back to my make shift came where I had an extra pair of BDU's. After a few, I gathered my equipment up and got the h*ll outta there, I was exhausted and low on supplies.

I haven't been back up there since but will probably try within the next year or so. If ever interested in tracking a Yeti, let me know... I'll be more than willing to be a guide. Good luck.

Well.. I been here a looong time.. and there are only a few guys on here I would trust when they tell a tale about bigfoot/sasquatch.

Crashburnrepeat is one of them.

I have yet to ever...ever see him post something even remotely suspect.

If he says he and his wife (fiance at the time I believe) had one run in front of their POV... then Im gonna have to say it did.. whatever the heck it was.

Meh, I don't know what to think.  Growing up, my parent's neighbor told me about seeing one in the early 60's while driving across the Cumberland Plateau and he is a very reliable source.  There are places on the plateau where man has never set foot.

But, yeah, the OP's experience was probably the result of shrooms and Black Sabbath

Okay, now that I have had time to read it all, a few responses:

- I love rock and roll too, but to me, the wilderness is not the place for it.  Whatever.  Just saying that there are all kinds of critters you could have disturbed with Black Sabbath cranked to full volume while setting up a camp.

- I'm not getting the part about you screaming a "guttural scream."  Why would you do that?  Me, if I think I am being stalked by something, I am going to hunker down and lay in wait for it, VERY quietly.  My whole inclination in that situation would be to remain extremely quiet, to OBSERVE and LISTEN.  (I know that they say it is a good idea to make noise in bear country if you are on the move, because that will help prevent you from startling a bear, and bears are sometimes known to react aggressively when startled.  But since you were in one spot and had already been blaring rock and roll, I'm sure any animal within a mile already knew you were there).

- Ditto the part about shooting up into the tree.  I'm not getting that either.  Warning shots?  I'm not firing any "warning shots."  Either I shoot or I don't, and if I do, it will be because I want something to get dead real quick, not because I want to knock some bark off a tree as a "warning."

Years ago, in the 1970s, there was a huge "Bigfoot Craze" in America.  At the time, I was naively enthusiastic about the possible reality of Bigfoot.

Today, with each passing year, I am more and more skeptical.  I will still grant that it MIGHT be possible for a relict population of hominids to have survived in remote places undetected into the modern age, but I consider it extremely unlikely.

Another interesting story of a Special Forces Teams encounter with Sasquatch near Barrow Alaska.

Report # 6486  (Class B)

Special Forces team follows bipedal trackway, gets screamed at
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
YEAR: 1988

SEASON: Spring

MONTH: March

STATE: Alaska

COUNTY: Barrow County

LOCATION DETAILS: The team was flown by helicopter out of Wainwright A.F. Base in a south-easterly direction for about an hour before being dropped off in the wilderness for an orienteering excercise lasting several days. The location is north of the Brooks Range and south of the region of the National Petroleum Reserve. Technically, the area is in the North Slope Borough of Alaska.

NEAREST TOWN: Not pertinent.

NEAREST ROAD: None

OBSERVED: In March of 1988, I was the Team Commander (Captain in rank) of a Special Forces "A" Team, conducting a Strategic Reconnaisance training mission in Alaska. There were 11 soldiers on the Team with a lot of Special Forces experience between them. We were wearing rucksacks and walking through the deep snow in a wooded area with cross-country skis. As we approached an area where the woods were too thick to go through on the skis, I decided to walk ahead on snow shoes with two other soldiers to check out the way ahead. After walking about 200 meters into the thicker woods, we came across a set of tracks that immediately drew our attention. The tracks were obviously of a two-legged creature walking through the woods on a course perpendicular to our own. Human tracks of any kind are extremely rare in that part of Alaska but these were particulary unique due to the length of the stride and the fact that there was no crushed snow on either the entry or the exit side of the holes.

We stopped to investigate. When each of us took off our snow shoes we sank into the snow to a depth of about 2 feet (above the knee). When we attempted to take a step in the deep snow, we left an area of crushed snow on the entry side of the hole and then crushed the snow again upon taking our foot out of the hole to take the next step. Our feet made a drag mark in the snow as well no matter how hard we tried to extract the foot without touching the surrounding snow. The best any of us could do was a stride between steps of about 1 1/2 feet. The tracks we were looking at had a stride of over 5 feet between steps and left the snow on both entry and exit from the hole totally untouched. After discussing the rational possibilities for a while, I sent one of my men back to bring up the rest of the Team. Between the 11 men on that Team, we had over 150 years of combined Special Forces experience in the woods all over the planet. They also had extensive experience in the tracking of everything with either two or four legs. We all studied the tracks and tried to come up with a reasonable explanation for what we were looking at. Only one explanation seemed to fit everything we saw but it was not a reasonable explanation. Based on our group experience in tracking humans, we made an approximate determination as to the height and weight of the person who had made the tracks based on the stride and depth of indentation in the snow. THe group consensus was a two-legged person about around 9 ft tall and weighing approximately 500 to 600 pounds. That was our best educated guess.

I then made a decision to set the training mission aside for a while and to follow the tracks through the woods. Wearing snow shoes, we followed those tracks for about an hour before we heard it. From somewhere ahead of us (and quite a distance from what we could tell) we heard the most horrific sound any of us has ever heard. Every other sound in the woods went instantly silent and we could almost hear our hearts beating. The only other time any of us has heard that kind of silence in the woods or jungle was in the last seconds before initiating an ambush. It is as though every creature and insect in the woods knows that something is about to die and they go silent out of fear or self-preservation. After hearing the sound (it was a cross between a howl and a roar), my Team Sergeant (the most senior and experienced member of my Team) stopped me and said, "Sir, speaking for both myself and the rest of the Team, we really do not want to know what is at the end of these tracks (expletives deleted)". This was surprising to me in that, through all of their years in Special Forces, these men had never expressed a fear of anything on two or four legs. I understood their consternation and agreed to resume the original mission. There was also a general consensus not to discuss the incident with anyone upon our return. Mind you that we were on a training misson and did not have live ammunition so any eventual confrontation with whoever or whatever made those tracks would not have been without a great deal of danger. Our curiosity to know what it was that made the tracks was overcome by the reality that we would be no match for it and, more importantly, that we really did not want to know what was at the end of those tracks. Tracks in the snow are much easier to deny and ignore than actually seeing what made them. My soldiers, and I, were afraid of what we heard and saw and the soldiers just didn't want to know.

The tracks stayed on the military crest of ridgelines and in low areas as much as possible. The only times the tracks crossed a ridgeline was in a saddle where it would not be seen. The thing which struck us all as odd was that, while the tracks depicted someone far too large to be human, whatever was making the tracks was moving through the woods exactly as one of us would have if we were conducting an escape and evasion. Whatever it was knew the land (as it maneuvered to bypass clearings well before they came into view) and was making a concentrated effort to remain unseen. I still think that the sound we heard was intended to warn us to back off and not follow.

I have thought back on that incident hundreds of times and wondered how it would have turned out if we had proceeded to follow the tracks. There are pros and cons to both sides of the issue. As for me, there are just some things that cannot be denied. Since then, I have had a VERY healthy respect for Sasquatch.

ALSO NOTICED: There was no denying the tracks and what they meant. As for the sound we heard, it was like nothing any of us had experienced in all of our years in the various woods and jungles around the world.

OTHER WITNESSES: 10 Special Forces soldiers other than myself.

OTHER STORIES: No

TIME AND CONDITIONS: Middle afternoon. Clear day, not snowing, temperature around freezing.

ENVIRONMENT: Thickly wooded area, rolling terrain.

The A-Team infiltrated the sasquatch pack, learned their language, and earned their trust. Then the A-Team taught guerilla warfare techniques to the bigfoots. Today the sasquatch are a top secret team of commandos deployed in Afghanistan fighting terrorists.

Sounds like a great SyFy Saturday night movie.

No shit - I was hunting elk on some Scott property near the White River around Wenatchee or some town in Washington State in '79. I got the feeling something was watching my ass to the point that I pussed out and backed up to a big cedar tree. Had my Browning BLR in .358 Win. and my .44 and I was still scared out of my wits. Bugged out after a good look around.
I know cool story puss.

I used to hunt Elk in an area of the Oregon Coast range known as God's Valley. My best friends father introduced us to this area. It was a large farmstead in the middle of the Tillamook State Forest that had been abandoned to the state when the owner died in the 1940's. All that was left were several large grass fields surrounded by dense forest.  It was prime elk habitat as the elk would come down to the fields to graze at night. My friend and I noticed some strange things about the area while camping in the summer and hunting in the fall. There was an area about 1/2 mile from camp we referred to as the Dead Zone. It was a strange area that gave us bad vibes. The forest would be alive with game and game trails. Elk, pheasant, squirrel, coyote etc. Then almost like crossing a line painted on the ground there was an area about 1/4 mile long where nothing and I mean nothing, lived. No game trails, no squirrels barking, not even birds in the trees, no sounds, even the air was still. Then 1/4 mile later you would cross another invisible line and bam! The forest would be alive again. That was the Dead Zone.

September 30th 1994 I left work that Friday, packed then headed to God's Valley for the Opening day of Coast Black tail Deer season. God's Valley was not a real good area for deer but I was by myself and didn't know any other a hunting areas very well. After driving for about 2.5 hours I left the blacktop and was on the logging roads. At the time God's Valley was at the end of a dead end logging road 7 miles from the highway. During elk season there are dozens of camps and RV's parked along the road and several down at God's Valley. I was quite surprised that when I arrived to the valley at about midnight it was deserted and I did not see a single camp or RV the entire way in.

I pulled all the way into the large U shaped clearing. At the bottom of the U was a huge old growth Douglas Fir with a rock firepit close by. I parked about 30 feet from the tree and left my headlights shining on its base while I set up camp. I had Black Sabbath turned way up as I unpacked my truck.  About 20 minutes later I was bent over setting up my dome tent when the hair on the back of my neck stood up. I turned my head and thought I heard a commotion coming from the woods. It was hard to hear over the music. I walked to the drivers door of my truck and turned the music down. I listened and heard nothing so I shrugged it off, turned my music up and went back to work.

A couple minutes later I distinctly heard a loud snap of a breaking branch to the left of my camp. I walked to my truck and turned my music off again.  I listened intently for at least a minute then I heard a very light rustle of leaves and a twig snap. The sound came from the woods on the other side of a 50 foot long blackberry bush that ended just short of the big old growth tree. About a minute later I heard another soft footfall. Then another. At the time it reminded me of my own sounds when quietly stalking game through the forest.  For some reason I thought it was another hunter or someone playing a joke. I called out "Hello, someone there?!"  Silence, nothing. About another full minute later another couple of soft crunches. There is a game trail on the other side of the blackberry's. Whatever is making the sound is on the trail and slowly coming closer to where the blackberries end at the base of the tree.

By this point Im getting nervous. Maybe it’s a drunk hunter playing games but Im by myself 7 miles into one of the thickest forests in the US. I was carrying a revolver in a shoulder holster. My rifle and speed loaders were cased and  underneath a ton of shit behind the seat.

I drew my revolver and yelled “Hey quit fucking around, I got a gun and this shit ain’t funny!”  No response, nothing. I figured I would either hear a man running away, busting brush of an animal running or something but there was only silence. About a minute later I can hear more creeping steps along the trail. It’s get closer to the gap between the blackberries and the tree. Perhaps 30 feet away now. My headlights are shining on the bottom of the tree but I still can’t see anything.

I made the loudest most guttural scream I could muster. I could hear it echo through the valley. More silence. A minute later more quiet stalking footsteps. Im 6’3, 260 lbs. It sounds like a man my size or better trying to be quiet. Two legs? I see a large shadow move into the gap and behind the tree. The tree is about 5 feet wide. I am now scared for my life. I fire a round high up into the tree.  The gunshot echoed for a long time. I saw part of a tall shape and yellowish eyes peer at me from behind the tree. I screamed as loud as I could and fired two more shots into the tree. The shots echoed for along time then silence. I didn’t see it anymore. I stood there waiting. I had 2 or 3 shots left. I wasn’t sure. After about half a minute it just walked away into the woods. It was no longer trying to be quiet but it wasn’t in a hurry. It just walked away into the darkness. I listened for a couple minutes until I couldn’t hear it anymore. I picked up my entire set up dome tent, threw it in the back of my truck. I threw my pots, pans and cooler and everything else on top. I was out of there and back on the gravel road 90 seconds later.

I drove the 2 and ½ hours back to Portland shaking. I arrived at my friends house at about 3 in the morning. I woke him up and told him what happened. The next afternoon  we packed several rifles and drove back. I had to show him and see if we could find anything. It looked much different in the daylight. We parked at the base of the tree and looked around.  On the trail behind the tree we could clearly see  it’s prints in the soft earth. It’s prints were almost half again as large as my size 13 boots. The footprints were so far apart that I had to stretch my legs as far as they would go to match the stride.

Since then I no longer go into the forest alone and I hunt with an FN FAL.

I have had several PMs asking me to give some additional details about our encounter so I'll post them here. I've posted them before but the get buried in the old posts.

my wife, who was my fiance at the time, and I were driving around midway Utah (above Heber) late at night on a Friday looking for a cabin we had been invited to  to spend the night with some friends. We got SUPER lost and were just driving around in the woods.  I got kinda tired of driving around aimlessly and just decided to get out of there as fast as we could.

I wend down a gully, came up the other side about 60 miles an hour and hit a sharp corner I didn't see coming, I slammed on the brakes and slid around the corner in the gravel,  as soon as I cleared the corner,  there was something HUGE standing in the middle of the road.

I slammed on my brakes and slid to a stop. Standing right in front of us, in high beams,  was the biggest humanoid I've ever seen.  he had dropped into a crouch and half twisted to see us when we came flying around the corner. we'd clearly caught him off guard crossing the road. He was facing right to left and was sideways to us,  slightly twisted back to face us. He was maybe 8-9 feet from my face in the high beams.  I could clearly see his eyes, teeth, skin and hair.

we locked gaze for a few seconds,  and in those few seconds I can still remember the details I processed like it was yesterday.  Long brown hair, fairly thick overall but very thin on and around the face.  not a human face but not ape.  the closest thing I can think of is the pictures of Neaderthal's in the National geographic. It looked a LOT more like us (humans) than an ape but the brow was heavy, very heavy jawline,  flattened nose, high cheekbones, deep set eyes. The eyes were dark but hard to see the color because they were squinting in the light.

the thing was frozen for a few seconds and then it slowly uncrouched just a little bit then took off across the road, three long bounds and then it leapt over this hedge of brush and scrub oak that was maybe seven feet high. It went over arms first, superman style, and never touched the bushes.

the important parts of the encounter are:

- this thing was 7 feet plus high.  I would guess 7'2"-7'3".  I can guarantee it's size within a couple of inches because at the time I was an offensive tackle at brigham young university. My best friend was (is) 6'8" and about 435.  This thing was MUCH taller than Will.
- it was physically enormous.  The largest animal I've ever seen that wasn't a moose.  it's biceps were literally the size of my thighs. At the time I  was 6'5" and about 320. I have big thighs. It's biceps were that size.  It's thighs were the size of my waist.  I was about a 44" waist.
- I have never seen anything move so fast in my life.  After BYU, I went to the buffalo bills where I was the second team O tackle and I blocked Bruce Smith on a daily basis for the better part of a year. Bruce is the quickest human I have ever seen.  It took me two weeks to even touch Bruce, let alone block him. This thing was easily 2x as fast/quick. I would guess this thing was pushing a 3.7 to 3.9 40 yard dash speed, maybe faster. It was hard to tell because it was so huge.   It was so big it might have looked slower than it was moving. It covered an entire road and over some bushes in three steps.
- I would guess it weighed 700+ lbs.  It was simply massive. Still hard to believe even having seen it in very bright lights.

as it ran off, I was terrified.  There is something primal about looking at something so close to you that could *CLEARLY* destroy you in a thought.  We were in a mazda 626, with an open sunroof,  late at night, with a craptacular tanfoglio CZ75 9mm under the seat for protection. This thing could have ripped the roof off, and yanked us out and eaten us if it wanted to.

I could not even talk. I was speechless. I finally decided I had hallucinated the entire episode and finally stammered out "did you see that?!"

my wife, who had not breathed an iota in the brief time since we'd seen it could only reply "That was a BIGFOOT! Get us the he** out of here!"

There was no thought of shooting it, it was too fast, too intelligent and frankly too scary.  I floored the accelerator and didn't let up for a mile and a half until I almost wrapped around a tree on another blind corner.

I still almost don't believe it sometimes, i have to check with the wife. I don't care if you or anyone else believes it.  It simply doesn't matter to me. I can tell you that we were two newly wed, innocent mormon kids who have never had a drink, don't take drugs, and take honesty very seriously out for a drive and we saw a bigfoot.

I have my theory as to who it was, and if I'm right, there IS only one of them.  that would explain why there have never been bones.  But I know what we saw that night, and it was a 7 foot plus,  thousand pound animal who moved with the speed of an olympic runner, had a 45+ inch vert jump, a sub 4 second 40 time and moved like a ghost. I never heard a sound through the open window or sunroof over the ticking engine save the sound of the brush as he cleared it and a thump as he hit the ground on the other side.

You may not  believe in bigfoot, but there is at least one of them.  Or there was in Midway Utah in the late summer of 1992.  I am not sure why I tell people, as invariably people think you are insane, as I would if someone told me the same story, but it is the truth and I (an my wife) have incontrovertible proof for ourselves that there is at least one bigfoot.

my wife, who was my fiance at the time, and I were driving around midway Utah (above Heber) late at night on a Friday looking for a cabin we had been invited to  to spend the night with some friends.

Very interesting story. I know what you mean about second guessing the reality of your experience. I seem to do that as the years go by but I still won't go into the forest with anything less than this.

Good grammar, excellent formatting. Its gotta be fiction.

If it was real it would be a clusterfuck wall of text of "OMG look what just happened to me!!11"

IMO:

1. It didn't want you there.  To get you to leave, it chose to get closer and unnerve you
2. The twig breaks and footfalls were intentional to alert you to its presence.  If it was in uber stealth mode, it would have been on all fours, and you would have heard and seen nothing
3. It didn't need to see you, but it let you see it up close because that was pretty much the nuclear option of intimidation techniques.  If that didn't work, there was not much else for it to do except pitch a noisy fit (growl, thrash trees or vegetation)
4. There's no doubt these are powerful creatures that could cause great harm if they were inclined.  Lucky for us, they seem more interested in avoiding us than anything

I think sooner or later someone will get a bigfoot on video with a thermal viewer.  There is already a report on the BFRO site (Liberty county, Georgia) of one spotted with a thermal viewer during night training at Fort Stewart

thses stories really fascinate me !

let me ask you a couple of questions if you don't mind.

you describe it as the Nehanderthal in the National Geo...   was it wearing something ? was it naked ? covered in hair, or hides or nothing ?

did it look scared by your arrival ?

keep them coming, these stories, true or not are great to read.

The Patterson film has never been disproven. You are mixing this up with the old geezer who carved a set a feet and used to walk in the woods with them. He admitted it was hoax before he died.

No, he's right. Patterson one as well.

I was a cop just south of where this apparently took place. I drove those logging roads for 10+ years straight...mostly at night.

Do you know how many bigfeet I have encountered? None....

Do you know how many police reports I've taken for Bigfeet? None....

Sorry guys.... I know y'all are bored here on this planet. I'd go to the deeper parts of the ocean. The chances of finding an amazing creature are much better.

bull fuckin shit on the bigfoot stories. In the history of man kind one person hasnt dropped the hammer on one, found a dead one, found bones of a dead one, taken a decent picture or anything concrete. A animal that size would be a busy mother just eating to stay alive, that means travel and lots of it. Its 2010 for god sakes people thats a long damn time to find one of those fuckers by now.

That I could understand.

It's like trying to find bones of a dead grizzly or a large cat.
Bear and cat bones are found often. The bigfoot enthusuaists (not researchers , no such thing) use the no bones and bears excuse all the time.

I'm undecided-leaning-towards-skeptical on the whole Bigfoot thing, but I love reading the stories.  What stood out to me in your story:  You made camp... in bear country... next to a big blackberry bush?  I'm not familiar with that area, and I know you said it was late September so maybe there weren't any berries left on the bush... but that would still make me reconsider my campsite.

Thanks for sharing this story with us. I don't doubt your story one bit - but I'm hung up on this part. If you were driving 60 mph through the quiet woods, how could he not have heard you coming? You'd think he'd have jumped out of the road long before you got there with your engine roaring at that speed.

I have my theory as to who it was, and if I'm right, there IS only one of them.  that would explain why there have never been bones.

Good luck.
