As far as the grip discussion here. I agree with the thumbs fwd grip, BUT to be fair I seem to remember a guy that shot with the "tea cup" grip winning (or the top 5?) the "top shot" competition. So, John Wayne, where do you instruct at? I'm not trying to be a smartass, I just want to look and see if you teach a class I would be interested in. There is a class that is hosted in VA that I have been wanting to take for a while.

If you're looking for training in Virginia, there's an abundance. FPF Training does a lot in Culpepper that's worthwhile...I just took a class with Tom Givens there a couple of weeks ago. Ernie Langdon is going to be in Culpepper in September and he always puts on a good class. |

Why would anyone even go to these people for training? We're in the salad days of good instructors! Jim Smith, Kyle Lamb, Larry Vickers, Paul Howe, Pat MacNamara...there, I just listed 5 that were all former CAG! There are plenty more out there that are just as qualified and had their curriculum vetted, but people still go to places like this with their asshattery.

I've trained guys who've been shooting for 20 years with the "it's what's comfortable for me" grip and a few minor adjustments cut their group sizes in half or better. Some folks settle for mediocre accuracy without realizing how easy it is to improve. They've never been shown how because they're too busy saying "well this works for me..." instead of shutting up and taking some valuable advice. I'm always looking for ways to get better techniques that are compatible with those I already practice get prioritized, but even if something seems completely counter-intuitive to me I will try it if recommended by people I trust sufficiently |

A few months back I got a note about some free tactical training being sponsored by APOST.
I can go but I have to provide the ammo. About $400 worth of ammo to shoot this class. I looked up one of their videos. Some kind of Israeli fighting stuff that looked down right stupid. Then I remembered someone posted the same video here a month or two before hand. Some wide stance, squating, gangster pointing crap. No thanks. |
