Those .440 caliber round rifle balls look "familiar"

Great write up on a "non-traditional" shooter!

You failed to confirm lack of reading on the Wrist Rocket.  I think you should have tried to shoot at least one lead ball with Wrist Rocket.

"And the bad news was that the slingshot apparently did not generate enough velocity to register on the chrono. We tried all the different balls several times but all we got was "Error” on the chrono. "

We tried all balls, several times.  No joy.

The chrono's ability to read the velocity with the SAME ammo - but the other slingshot - suggests velocity was the variable.

And does New York actually have a ban on these??!?

Wrist-braced slingshots are banned in New York.

But now we see: it doesn't matter whether or not it has a "shoulder thing that goes up"

For good non-lethal ammo that won't kill your lawnmower, buy a bag of gumballs.

They're round enough to fly true, weigh enough to impress a wayward cat or dog, and will dissolve into your lawn fairly easily.

Great write up, OP.

My wife got me a slingshot for Christmas last year.

I'm enjoying it (shot it just yesterday, actually) but those glass marbles (just like in O_P's pictures) cost around $0.04 each, which is more than a round of .22lr and more than a .177 pellet.

Just a guess on my part, but I bet a stiff frame and very tough elastic bands is what does the job.

Hell yes, take that McCarthy.

You must have wrists like tree limbs.  I can't believe you were able to restrain more energy without a wrist brace type than with the wrist brace.  We discovered as kids that the ticket is to use the standard non-magnum surgical tube bands and cut about an inch off the ends before installing them.  I bought a couple of them last summer to pass the time while camping at the lake and to entertain the kids.  I managed to take out a few carp once I switched from the little 1/4" steel balls to 3/8" lead sinkers.

Shot a neighbor kid when I was young in the leg with a penny. Penny caught the air like a laser.  That was the end of my slingshot days.  :-(

Seems like the Tier 1 slingshot with a wrist brace would be "more better".

If you have the Dollar Tree chain of stores in your area, look in the toys section - They sell a bag of 100 for a buck.

I think I found them in a bargain like that.  Not the hardest hitting ammo, but sometimes you don't really want too much power.

THIS.  When you're trying to discourage a nuisance kid pet from up the street, sometimes you want to make an impression without leaving a mark.
