I certainly wouldn't go so far to say that "I have more in common with the average rural Russian than the average urban American".

However, I will say that conservatives have many parallels with Russians.  Some examples:

Believe in low taxes
Believe in the right to self defense
Opposed to generous welfare (believe it's ok that people have to work to eat)
More pro-gun than Western Europeans
Opposed to most progressive social policies (gay rights, feminism, etc.)
Opposed to unlimited immigration (though Russia does have immigrant problems)
More skeptical about global warming (this is certainly not absolute, though)
Believe that government is corrupt and can't be trusted
Believe in having a strong military (theirs is not that strong but it is a much bigger priority than for Western Europe)
Not as concerned with environmentalism

That's what I can think of off the top of my head but I'm sure there's many more.

actually vladimir putin is a deeply nationalistic authoritarian "president" who acts in a way that he believes is consistent with upholding and expanding russia's influence in the world. he has no desire to recreate the soviet union but rather a russian empire of sorts. in fact most of the oligarchical guard of the soviet union are long gone, replaced by putin's friends and collaborators. he isn't a communist. to label him as one is to have a fundamental lack of understanding of his political convictions or goals.

i don't like putin, i don't admire him. but i most certainly do not "hate" him because he's doing the same thing for his people that many of our leaders believe we ought to be doing for our own. if you are a russian president, you aren't going to be doing anything for the russian people by being subservient to the western world's demands. you and i might not like what putin does but you and i most certainly would do what putin is doing if we were russians and considered ourselves russian patriots in the way we consider ourselves american patriots now. that is the perspective that i look at the russian situation from.

we have a belief in america, a pervasive, expensive, snobbish, false and unbelievably arrogant belief, that we are the gatekeepers of the free world and as such we must act like the world's police. we aren't, and we shouldn't. once you frame the argument that way and abandon the idea of "spreading democracy" you might begin to understand why russia acts the way it does and why they don't particularly like us anymore than we like them.

i don't think we should help russia, or become their friends, but i also think that the mainstream media and the democratic party's view of russia is dangerous, hysterical, and bordering on mental illness. the fact that you have people like congressman adam schiff suggesting that russians propagate our 2nd amendment to get us to kill each other or that russians hacked vote totals when that is disputed by a super majority of state secretaries, speaks volumes about their ability to reason and their current state of mind. if russia keeps you up at night and you don't work in intelligence, than you need to see a specialist and i would recommend you seek medical help.

Ideological restraints kept Russian information operations pretty much restricted to the Left for decades. The removal of these means they have unrestrained opportunities to successfully target both these days. Fostering and propping up their old allies on the Left, while simultaneously appealing to the Right by using those very Leftist groups as strawmen examples of what Western freedoms, unchecked, let happen.

In this very thread, we see how hilariously well these messages resonate with the useful idiots crowd.

Its funny how the Russians finally figured out that their propaganda works just as well on that derpy segment of the American "right" as it did on the left.

Add in the GD tweenager retard accounts that believe everything they see on YouTube and you get the ball gargler posts.

QFT.  Our greatest enemies are within.  Look at what Hitlery did in starting the "muh russia" sh*t on Donald Magnus.  She and Soros funded Antifa(ct).

Besides, that corrupt nation Russia is only a threat via the vulnerable petro-dollar.

i don't think russia isn't a global rival but whenever you see someone call putin a communist it's usually a clue to ignore everything else they have to say because they don't know what the fuck they're talking about.

he's a nationalist, an opportunist, a careerist, all of this to be sure, but not a communist.

uh... yeah... because they are patriots (russian patriots) and putin is their president.

you... you do realize that large, nationalistic groups of people tend to support their own leaders, right?

that's like saying we have an inherent quarrel with russia because we support trump instead of putin. it's mind-boggling that you would type that, really...
