Quoted: SHout out to superdrag67, nice meeting you, briefly, thank you for the parts! Most appreciated, sir! |

If the FCS well or holes have been drilled or milled, it'll have to go through an FFL, no? |
|
Quoted: @backbencher
Is there any rules against Glock frames / lower receivers? |
|
Quoted: I was thinking of the older versions from 10+ years ago that weren't nearly as completed as current ones, and there were lots more mistakes made. I think your right that additional correct work means it is a legal receiver. What about if the additional work was done incorrectly and must be repaired? I'm trying to do a really cheap build. The local FFLs are another $25 per transfer. EP Armory has some very inexpensive plastic 80% lowers, and before you scoff, they are very easily reinforced with this: https://www.opticsplanet.com/vism-ar-blastar-thumbhole.html It may be a wash w/ a regular aluminum 80% by the time you pay $30 for the thumbhole stock, however. The least expensive way to get a LOT of lowers: http://ar15mold.com/
In the Fruity Ghost thread, someone figured out what 2-part epoxy they're reselling, and it was calculated a lower could be poured for as little as $7. |
|
Quoted: That sucks. I would think, however, BATFE will view an 80% lower w/ any part of the FCS pocket milled, correct trigger or hammer pin holes drilled, or a correct safety hole drilled as a Title 1 firearm - or manufacturers would be producing lowers w/ that stuff already drilled. Quoted: Iirc they even slapped some manufacturer that was simply marking the spots to be drilled. I think there was another that had a raised spot where the 3rd hole would be and they ruled them machine guns. An anodizer had taken in engraved retro lowers made from 80%, with engraved marks at the 3rd Hole of Happiness, and a BATFE agent seized them. |
|
Quoted: EP Armory had an integral jig, where the trigger & hammer holes were marked w/ small raised nubs. BATFE raided them and their largest distributor; ultimately, EP Armory brought out their 2nd version, with no nubs, but offer an adhesive paper jig. An anodizer had taken in engraved retro lowers made from 80%, with engraved marks at the 3rd Hole of Happiness, and a BATFE agent seized them. |

I'm really looking for an older 6061 alloy lower. Want to do some welding on it, and if my welding doesn't work, I won't have ruined anything but a previously messed up 80%er, There is a gunshow coming up that should have something I can experiment with. On a lower this may not be too big of an issue since there’s not a lot of strain on them, just something to be aware of since most lowers are 6061-T6 or 7075-T6. |
| I was thinking of beefing up a few areas and extending the right side and rear side of the magwell, so I could change mags while keeping both eyes on a threat. Just an idea I've had in the back of my mind for years, and want to try it while I still have access to a welder. I found two sellers of 6061 lowers but they are a little pricey for my application. |

Quoted: Might try refining your idea in steel 1st. The FlatSpot has steel 80% flats you weld or braze together. |
You can just hold the bbl in place, should work fine.
No, actually your rail probably came w/ the bbl nut it will clamp to. Just unscrew the rail from the upper, stick the bbl in, and then screw the rail back down, you'll see how it goes. For final assembly, you might want some lithium grease btwn the bbl & the upper. |

Quoted: Can ship out an A2 Fixed stock kit if anyone is in need. Swapped out the A2 butt plate (with the C1 butt plate) to add to the Cav C1 stock. https://www.dropbox.com/s/hj4ule6h3z42wr2/IMG_0806.jpg?raw=1 https://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/2146304_That-Every-Man-Be-Armed-Free-AR-parts-Please-contribute-your-old-parts-1st-rifle-Pg-3-.html |

Edit: now I want to cast a 100% ‘cutaway’ AR out of clear resin. Clone every part but pins and springs in resin. It won’t be finctional, but it would be a neat conversation piece and tech show off bit. @Boris_Build any thoughts?

It’ll probably be a good long while before I get the money, space, supplies, and time to do this anyhow. If I do it, it’ll be pressure cast with different lightly tinted batches of Clearcast 7000. That way even if the ‘trainer’ is fully assembled, you’ll be able to see the different parts because of slight color differences and whatnot. But it’s on my list of stuff to do. Plus it’ll be a hell of a conversation piece. An entire non-functional but mechanically identical copy of an AR and all. Rubber Duckie Mk II maybe.

I was talking to my son-in-law the other day and it looks like he had to sell the AR lower I gave him to his stepfather to help pay bills without building the rifle. I can't afford to buy him another right at this juncture due to financial woes of my own, although I can pony up a mess of spare parts (those that I haven't been giving away in the other threads, anyway). He's a good kid, but has health issues that don't allow him to work any kind of scheduled job. Makes what he can with side jobs, but it's never enough. This would be his only rifle. My daughter is set. Some of you may remember the infamous leopard print AR I built her some years ago when I was slightly more flush. |
