Austin is the most liberal and Democrat area in the state of Texas! It is as close to California you can get but without the stupid AR builds. Most of us don't count it as a city in Texas. View Quote Still, convenient that statues that have never been a problem (even during the 1960s) are suddenly "hate symbols". Sent email telling them they'll never get another penny from me. |

Maybe it's time to bulldoze the Alamo. Mexicans might be offended by it.

got this in my email today:
Dear Longhorns,
Last week, the horrific displays of hatred at the University of Virginia and in Charlottesville shocked and saddened the nation. These events make it clear, now more than ever, that Confederate monuments have become symbols of modern white supremacy and neo-Nazism. After the Charleston, South Carolina, church shooting in June 2015, and with the urging of students, I formed a task force of faculty, students, alumni and university leaders to evaluate six statues on UT's Main Mall that included depictions of four military and political leaders of the Confederacy. The task force presented five options, ranging from the installation of contextual materials to the removal of some or all of the statues. At that time, I decided to move the statues of Jefferson Davis and, for symmetry, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson. The Davis statue has since been restored and presented at UT’s Dolph Briscoe Center for American History in a scholarly exhibition about the Littlefield Fountain and the six Main Mall statues. During the past several days, I have talked with student leaders, students, faculty members, staff members and alumni to listen to their views after the revelatory events in Charlottesville. I also revisited the very thorough 2015 task force report. After considering the original task force report and with the events of the past week and my discussions with the campus community in mind, I decided to relocate the remaining four statues. Early this morning, the statues depicting Robert E. Lee, Albert Sidney Johnston, John Reagan and James Stephen Hogg were removed from the Main Mall. The Lee, Johnston and Reagan statues will be added to the collection of the Briscoe Center for scholarly study. The statue of James Hogg, governor of Texas (1891-1895), will be considered for re-installation at another campus site. The University of Texas at Austin is a public educational and research institution, first and foremost. The historical and cultural significance of the Confederate statues on our campus — and the connections that individuals have with them — are severely compromised by what they symbolize. Erected during the period of Jim Crow laws and segregation, the statues represent the subjugation of African Americans. That remains true today for white supremacists who use them to symbolize hatred and bigotry. The University of Texas at Austin has a duty to preserve and study history. But our duty also compels us to acknowledge that those parts of our history that run counter to the university’s core values, the values of our state and the enduring values of our nation do not belong on pedestals in the heart of the Forty Acres. We do not choose our history, but we choose what we honor and celebrate on our campus. As UT students return in the coming week, I look forward to welcoming them here for a new academic year with a recommitment to an open, positive and inclusive learning environment for all. Time to bulldoze the Alamo as we all know that it is just a symbol of white superiority over Latinos.
That and you better pull down all things LBJ. |

I was informed of this just this AM by a UT Alumni. He was pretty pissed about it and was going to contact the Alumni Association and the University.
I also heard about it from a second UT Alumni that I spoke with on the phone this morning. He was fairly upset too. Both these guys are quite successful businessmen and avid supporters of the UT football program and the school. IMHO, UT really doesn't want to alienate guys like they have these two. Their money stream will be reduced considerably. |

Also remember utx had a dorm named after a fairly influential law prof...Simkins.
Before moving to Texas, he was a Confederate soldier and basically started the KKK in Florida. They changed the name back in 2010 I believe. This isn't new to them. |

Meanwhile at Texas A&M, nearly 1000 freshmen entered the Corps of Cadets, the largest incoming class since 1970. This increases participation in the Corps to its highest levels since the 1960s at around 2700.
A&M is covered with statues and memorials including the most famous, Lawrence Sullivan Ross, soldier, statesman, knightly gentleman who after the CW (where he served as a General in the Army of the South) saved A&M from oblivion shortly after its creation. I am guessing that any attempt to move Sully will not fly. Aggies are generous, but they will sit on their wallets if Sully is moved. There will always be some shithead liberals on campus and they will push for it. A&M is considered the most conservative of all public universities in the country as well as being the largest university in Texas. |

This is a subject that just pisses me off. Not Texas in particular but this whole SJW bullshit attempt at erasing history. As far as Austin goes, it's full of nothing but pussies, assholes and hippies, so nothing they do there surprises me. I go there only when forced to. Seems like its time to enact a law at state level to protect these monuments.

Can't wait till the reprisals start and the liberal tears flow as a result...I don't condone it, but by God I'll grab the popcorn and watch it play out.
Other statues in need of 'social history justice'; MLK, plagiarist, womanizer....all must come down. Rosa Parks...staged fake event thus her monuments must come down - look into it- it was all based on a lie....history books telling this lie must be 'burned' according to the alt-left MSM. Dozens of Dem presidents; were KKK supporters and or (blue dog Southern Dem 'racists' supporters), including Wilson, FDR, JFK, Johnson.....along with any monument to ISIS/ Iran supporting BHO...again 'social history justice' demands they come down and I bet there are people planning just that. Wait till the rented backhoes show up at city parks at 4am for 'payback justice'. Again I don't condone it, but you can see it coming. |

The only surprising thing is that it took this long for the virtue signal to go out. Notice how it was the first thing on the news Monday morning? After "Cocks not Glocks!" I refuse to believe the longwhorns are redeemable. And people ask why I don't want the rivalry re-started. |

Didn't Admiral McRaven take the job as Chancellor of the UT system several years ago? Either that or he was offered the job, if I remember correctly. If so, it doesn't look like he's working out so well for UT, or Texas.
