Which was the better film?
The Terminator was a sci-fi/action/borderline horror film with an original story, great acting, and decent special effects for the day (1984). Terminator 2 was a straight up sci-fi action sequel with slightly less quality acting but far better action sequences and special effects for the day (1991). I was too young to see the original in the theater, but when I finally saw it on VHS, I was awestruck by it, from start to finish. When I saw T2 in the theaters on opening weekend in July of '91, I was blown away by the movie and went back multiple times to see it. This clip from The Terminator is one of my favorite. It depicts the police showing Sarah Conner their interview with Kyle Reese. Talk about building suspense, especially after what had already happened in the movie by that point: The Terminator 1984 'You can't stop him!' HD Clip 15 23 And here's the opening clip from Terminator 2, that really set the tone for the rest of the movie: Terminator 2: Judgment Day Biker Bar Scene Bad To The Bone HD I've thought it over and over, and I can't decide which one was better. I preferred the acting and horror of the original, but the action and effects of the sequel are great, too. If I was forced upon pain of death to choose, I guess I'd pick.... |

The original was the best by far, but T2 was also a good flick. Hasta la vista, baybee!

In this case Terminator was slightly better than T-2 as T-2 has to many cheesy lines, but in Sicario the second the Day of the Soldado was far better.

I’m gonna give T2 the win by a hair.
T2 solidified the cultural impact of Terminator... it took everything awesome in the first film and did it again. For a sequel, that’s REALLY hard. |
T2 because of its cutting edge (at the time) special effects. Influenced a lot of future movie makers.

I want to say that the original is better, but I watched both again a few weeks ago and the first is getting really dated. T2 is definitely a more popcorn, summer blockbuster style movie. The original is a great scifi horror movie, that was very original imo.
T2 has some straight up awesome scenes though. The Cyberdyne building shootout, the mental hospital escape, the chopper chase and semi-chase to the foundry or whatever it was finale. Fricking awesome. T2 was jaw droppingly great in the theater imo, and has always been a favorite of mine. The m79 has never been depicted so awesomely either. It deserves a best-supporting role award, lol. |

Anybody vividly remember seeing either of these in the theater?
Both were great but I give the win to T2. T2 basically catapulted the franchise to icon status.
T2 for me, I was aww struck watching it in the theatre.
I was too young to see T1 in the theatre and saw it ALOT on cable leading up T2. First 100 million dollar budget. |
T1 because of the scene where he does an assessment of the police desk before driving through it.
T1 was a very groundbreaking movie, even with its low budget and imperfections it has stood the test of time.
T2 is the first R rated movie that I saw in a theater, so it has a soft spot for me... It's also pretty much the perfect action movie. I really couldn't choose... I like both for different reasons. |
They were both such great movies, but so different it's hard to compare them head to head.
T1 was basically a sci-fi horror, like Alien(s). There wasn't a fun moment in that entire film. Just anxiety and terror. T2 was one of the best action movies of all time. Tons of action, laughs, FX, scares and cries. |

I have to flip coin.
That dopey-eyed weak young lady, or that annoying voice-breaking kid. Hmmmmm. |

First one by far for me.
With the first one you can somewhat suspend disbelief to a degree. Time travel? Who knows. Tech to build a working Terminator? Possible. Living breathing skin on outside? We are growing shit now, in the future who knows. T-2 with the liquid metal Robert Patrick? Um...no. First one was hard and kind of gritty, everyone that got in the Terminators way got killed. The second one was already going PC shit. "You just can't kill someone". GTFO with your kinder gentler Terminator. |
Yeah, I appreciated and got caught up in the horror of the first one. It was almost like a sci-fi snuff film. Kill everybody.

I gotta go with Terminator 2.
Also enjoyed this low budget remake. Terminator 2 Parody: Low Budgment Day |

On a scale of 1-1000, Terminator 999/T2 1000. Both are awesome.

T1.
T2 is almost unbearable at times because of Edward Furlong’s terrible acting. |
T1 was a really good film but T2 raised the bar for Action and SciFi movies.
T1: 80's action/scifi greatness that oozes atmosphere
T2: Edward Furlong shite acting Easy choice for me. |
T1: better sci-fi movie
T2: better action movie I did see Terminator 2 opening weekend, it was awesome experience for as a kid in 9th grade. |

By the way, T1 has something that T2 doesn't and it rhymes with rubies.
Terminator 1 for content like plot, story line, feelz, etc. T2 for awesome action and graphics.
T1 had better acting, better atmosphere, better pacing, and no corny gags. T2 is still a great action movie, but T1 is better in every way except special effects.
Terminator and Alien have one very unique thing in common for film:
Their sequels were the best of the franchise. |
I'll always have a special fond memory of watching T2 in the theater because I got a hand job while watching it. I was the only one in the theater.
I hate you OP. Because I've contemplated this many times. And it's always tough.
But I go with T1. Something about the feel of it. The rawness of everything. It felt like you were in it. But I love both of them. |
