Closest thing I have to an unfinished project is the 2011 Cadillac SRX that I am replacing the timing chains on. Parts are on their way and I hope to put a big dent in it this weekend.

Sort of a project car since it sits in the garage and I'm slowly going through replacing the usual BMW problem area.

I saw a BMW 640i Gran Coupe one day at the import repair place where I was having my MB oil and turn up done.

What a beautiful car was the first thing I thought, and how bad could it be.  Did some research, and decided that any version of the V8 was a no-go so the 650 or M6 was out.

This car was available from 2012 -2018 and was available as a two or four door coupe. I wanted the 4 door for the extra room.

I looked at the few that were for sale in my area. It's not that common of a body style, and most of the ones that I found were 100K+ miles and just beat up and had neglected maintenance.

One finally popped up on my search feed, a 2013 version with only 39K miles. Good news/bad news... the car looked to be in great shape, but had been sitting for nearly a year. It had 2 previous owners, and the last owner put less than 2,300 miles a year. These cars do not do well sitting and usually oil and coolant leaks will start. I knew I was buying a wallet draining car, but couldn't get past the way it looked. Sold my daily driver Mercedes coupe, and brought this home.

So far since March, I've changed the oil and coolant, accessory belt and tensioner, speed sensors, plugs, coils, main AGM battery, rear electronic struts, and had to take it to a BMW specialist for a full software update. Paint had a texture feel to it, and it needed a few clay bar treatments to pull all of the contaminates out of the paint.  Interior was near mint, but the leather needed some love. I'm waiting on the Blackstone oil report to see if I need to do rod bearings.  I have around $5K in parts and labor that I couldn't do. Some things are pretty silly, like $100 to code the rear shocks to the car with the electronic ride control.

Next up will be the electronic water pump, high and low pressure fuel pump, and collecting the various gaskets that are bound to leak.

I did add a few go fast things to increase the HP and torque.  I replaced the plastic charge pipe with aluminum, air intake, and and MHD stage 2 tune.

Surprisingly, I do not have a single picture of the car on my phone.  I need to fix that and post some.

@tvone, I bought a 640 coupe new in 2013 and commuted 90 miles a day for three years. It was flawless...and a very beautiful and incredibly luxurious vehicle. If you didn't drive it up front you'll be surprised at how healthy that stock six cylinder is, too.

39K should be a creampuff, the buyer demographic and buy-in didn't really support hot rodding them much. It probably won't be cheap, exactly, keeping it on the road but the driving experience is well worth it. Congrats! Like to see the pictures when you get a minute.

My unfinished project car,
I'll make you feel super awesome about yours,
Mine didn't start out as mine,
My step daughter absolutely had to have an 86 cabriolet when she turned 18,
I advised against it for multiple reasons, but her and my now ex did what they usually did, and snuck $2500 out of my bank.acxount and bought it.

I than got the joy of showing her how to reattach and sync the shifter and tyranny, rewire a mid 80s vw, and the culminating event, completely replace the top.ay which point she drove off to college, where she basically defaulted into "fuck you I'm smarter than you" mode, and never bothered to drain the questionable contents of her radiator.

Which of course led to everything freezing solid the night before she was going to.drive home for Christmas,
The morning of which She tried to start it, at which point my ex received a call that "all of the fluids are on the ground under my car"

So I got roped into driving 2 hours with a car dolly, whenching the fucking car onto it by hand and than driving to hours back,
At which point I had to push it up and around the driveway into the garage.

That was 4 years ago,
It sat for so long I built a wall and loft over the fucking thing so I could still use my garage.

Last year my (now) ex secretly bought a new house, found a new guy, got new tits and a new face, and bailed on me and the kids.

I haven't even spoken to her daughter in 2 years, (she was part of the midlife crisis fuckery)

So now I have a vw cab with a cracked block sitting in my garage, and the title sitting in my document box, and I can't work on it because I'm pretty much attempting to raise a teenage boy and girl on my own, on va disability/mil medical retirement.

So however long it takes you to get your project done, you can be sure that the vw will still be sitting under a wood platform with a jeep top, 400 duck decoys and a family and a halfs worth of camping shit that may or may not ever be used again sitting on it, when you do.

It was "coolant" and oil,
I will admit i don't know a whole lot about vws, but past experiences indicate that that's probably bad

I'll also admit that with my actual vehicle, 2010 f150 with 160k on it, getting to the point where it needs constant attention, that I just don't even have the motivation to even wheel it out and diagnose anything, cause it's literally check to check around here

Between gas to get kids around to where they need to be, and groceries to feed teenagers, im usually broke by the 15th or 16th,
Gonna be another year of no extra anything, probably won't be able to get out hunting either

I have an '85 Jeep CJ7 that I bought several years ago for cheap, no compression on the #6 cylinder.  Instead of rebuilding the 4.2L, decided to simply replace it with a fuel injected 4.0L.  Found one out of a '94 Cherokee, pulled the motor and everything electrical.  Tore the 4.0L down, had block cleaned and resurfaced.  Had the head rebuilt/checked, and the crank gone over.  Ordered a complete rebuild kit, and a couple of cans of block paint...and that's as far as I've made it.  I even picked up an AX15 to use, and everything is wrapped up and stored out in the barn.

One day I'll get motivated...

eta:  I also have an '81 CJ7 with hardtop and full doors, it had been parked out in a field for years.  The previous owner had damaged the ignition switch, and I am 95% sure that's why it was parked.  Rain leaned in, and rusted out the floor pans.  I picked up replacements, and its all be parked by the '85 in the barn.  I'm almost positive the '81 will likely crank & run, at least after the carb is gone through.

1989 Toyota 1 ton dually. So far I have fixed and repainted the cab, and installed new carpet on the inside. Up front I had to put in a new battery tray and core support because the old battery exploded. New grill and front bumper from a 4 Runner. It’s been sitting for a few years in this state. Out back I need a new bed. I was going to build a flat bed but decided to do a regular pickup bed instead. Long beds are a bitch to find so I’m going to eventually buy two short beds and splice them together. Right now I have dually fenders on order from Precision 4x4 in Canada. I should get them sometime after thanksgiving.

Doesn't matter,
All property in possession at time of signing of divorce became property of the person with physical control.

In the last 18 months I've rebuilt the entire rear end of the Ford in the drive way,
Replaced the waterpump, brake reservoir and booster, hub seals, brakes, the entire drivers side front end, and a whole bunch of other stuff,
I've been hit sitting at lights twice
It's getting to the point where I hate looking at my tools

That's awesome.  My farher has my grandfather's wagoneer that he rebuilt in the late '80s. He used to take us grandkids up in the canyons where he grew up in the '20-'30s and show us around.

So many memories. Unfortunately, it needs so much work, I know I'll get around to ever fixing it.  I have a younger cousin that's interested in it, so I hope he's serious about buying & restoring it one day. It would definitely light up my grandfather's spirit if he does.

Recently installed dual Weber carbs and now waiting on a DTM cooling kit to convert it to upright cooling.  Hoping to have the car ready for some VW shows in the spring.

This took 12 years but eventually I finished it. As I saved for each big expense there was plenty of time to clean and refinish parts, every single nut and bolt. The car turned out better than I anticipated because of that. The first time I drove it after the build, the long hours and struggles were instantly forgotten. Jeeps are never-ending projects, but it drives so I don't count it.

Mazda B2000 in the back yard, gonna be hard to get it out. Needs some minor engine work, the other new door seal installed, and a good cleaning of the interior. Not quite a "project" but I need to get it out of the way soon.

Now to the real PROJECT - not a car, but a motorcycle. 1985 Honda Shadow 500. Picked it up about 6 months before the Covid shitstorm. Have to finish making a new wiring harness, I'm probably about 1/2 done. Probably will need new forks, might try fixing these ones up first not sure yet. But between a lot of coof overtime and supply chain issues, not much has happened to it for the last 2 years. I need to get it finished and get it in the road!

@OG1

523hp on the dyno backed up with a 9.5” converter and 4.10’s. It’s not the fastest thing around but it’s no slouch either…

To the casual observer it looks pretty stock

This took 12 years but eventually I finished it. As I saved for each big expense there was plenty of time to clean and refinish parts, every single nut and bolt. The car turned out better than I anticipated because of that. The first time I drove it after the build, the long hours and struggles were instantly forgotten. You couldn’t knock the smiles from my face with a sledgehammer…

Those are some of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen and yours is very well done.

Mazda B2000 in the back yard, gonna be hard to get it out. Needs some minor engine work, the other new door seal installed, and a good cleaning of the interior. Not quite a "project" but I need to get it out of the way soon.

Good thing you are in Oregon, I am a sucker for the older Mazda trucks.

This.

ETA Pictures!

My 1969 Mustang Mach 1. I drove it from 2002 until 2008. 351W 4spd, but 351c 2V and T5 right now. It needs some work to get it on the road. It's decent enough to drive for a while and eventually be restored.

1970 Dodge Charger R/T 440+6 4spd. NOM and trans so I will be messing with the car a little bit. Probably warmed over sixpack and 5spd conversion.

2001 SVT Cobra. Currently a roller and needs an engine. I have a 4.6 4v engine in pieces, but I am thinking Coyote swap and power adder.

1985 Corolla GTS.
Chassis and body parts have been completely stripped of all paint and undercoating, primed and awaiting roll cage fab.
Engine is rebuilt with all ARP hardware 12-1 pistons, floating rods, ported head, hks cams, Keihin FCR carbs.

Still need to fab the cage, assemble the body and get it painted, still need some suspension parts and a differential..a few other odds and ends.

Anyone have driver side door hinges and door glass? I can't find mine and haven't had any luck sourcing any.

I'm envious!

A '69 Mach 1 is my dream car. I went to HS with a guy who still has a '69 351W in green. Beautiful cars!

My father has HS friend that had about 20 various musings from '65 to early 2010s. He had his HS '69 Mach 1 with a Boss 302 motor taken from their other friends Boss after he rolled it coming into town when they were young. Even a few Shelby of different years. Unfortunately, a wild fire went through a few years back and got several of them in the building they were stored in.

I got an 86 iroc that I've had since I was 16 (40 now).  Drove the shit out of it from '97-'05.  Then from about '05-'12 it pretty much sat and never got driven because I got into sports bikes and track racing. Around 2012 I decided I missed driving it but I wanted to restore it.  So I sanded it mostly down to metal (im in AZ so rust isn't an issue) And I redid the interior with the intentionof atleast throwing some primer on it. Added all new sound deadening, carpet, NOS trim, ect.  Just had to put the dash back in.  Then life happened again and it sat. Again. Then around '17-18 i decided i wanted to get back into getting the car running so i started replacing all the old suspension parts, bushings ect.  Everything worked and it ran.  Then 1 day after i started it and let it run for a bit, went to turn it off, pulled the key out, and it kept running. .  Replaced the starter and same issue. Found out the starter was bad, got another 1 and it worked...  kind of.  It would start if i jumped it but if i used the key... nothing.  After a while of trying to fix that issue, i noticed i didnt hear the fuel pump priming anymore.  .  after messing with the wiring for the starter and what not and no luck, i just stopped messing with it as summer was now here.

current engine is a 406 sbc making approx 440rwhp and 490rwtq on ashitty cam cause I was worried about emissions at the time and still on the stock 305 tpi ecu.  tryng to find a tuner is impossible even back then and now ill prob switch over to a FAST stand alone system.

This is the car the day I got it

This is its current condition the day we moved.  Of course a month b4 we moved the fuel pump went and then the starter.  So it got towed.

Thankfully the garage was an upgrade.

If you're in Arizona call some insurance companies and insure it as a classic. Not more smog, surprisingly insurance is a bit cheaper as well.

Well it’s a 74 challenger that I bought as a shell in 09. Spent another ten years putting it together. It runs and drives but if you sit in traffic to long it will over heat. Needs a new headliner and the front seats rebuilt as well as a new 4 link to go on the rear end. 440 4 speed in it. Driven it less than 100 miles since I got it done. It sits in my brothers garage and he drives it when he wants to.
