Quoted: I have a YHM QD .30 Phantom suppressor sitting in my safe unused and I'm kicking around building a smallish AR10 in .308 for shits and giggles. I've spec-ed out an Aero M5 receiver set and their 15" Atlas rail, a Toolcraft dual ejector BCG, and a Faxon Big Gunner profile, 16" barrel. I can't decide if I want to go w/ a fixed A1 stock or something collapsible. Someone talk me off this ledge... lol no Put a 2.5 x 10 or a 3 x 18(some mid range variable power optic) with a piggy back red dot and roll. Don’t tell the scout bros but a 16” AR10 in 308 is a very handy and capable rifle, it’s only real downside is that are generally heavy. |

Problem solved. how much velocity loss are we talking for the same round out of a 16" vs. 18"? This topic has been beaten to death. You lose very little muzzle velocity. If you're going up to 18, why not just go up to 20. And then if 20, why not 24? Get the 16. Suppress it. Smile. Also, get an easily adjustable gas block. |

Quoted: Build one with an 18" barrel. 16" wastes too much powder. Problem solved. I have both. I’m only giving up like 50fps so and the 16” is noticeably easier to maneuver if you’re going anything but shooting off a bench. OP, the only thing I’d suggest changing is that rail. It’s a pig. For large frame AR’s I really like Smoke Composites… Year, they’re expensive but the weight savings are worth it. |

Looking specifically at one of these. |

This pic is inspiring. |

Do it! Collapsible stock and P&W 14.5" barrel instead. I've got a PWS MK214 which came that way - uber-awesome and a lot handier. Of course if you were serious, you'd go 12.5" or so... Attached File |

Can’t help you with PSA AR10 rifles. Had a 20” AR10 in 308 using Aero M5 and a 2.5-10x scope. Was heavy for its performance 308 is like a recently paid off car with a full tank of gas. Sure you can buy something newer, but you have a 5 year old car now paid off. I sold my m5 and got a 22” m1a. |

A couple of things. 1) Go 12.5" or go home. 2) Find a small frame .308 AR instead of building a traditional DPMS pattern gun. My 12.5 POF Rogue is crazy light compared to my 12.5 Aero. 5.6 lbs Semi-auto .308. Doooo it. |

Go 16" AR10's are meant for tighter urban environments where getting rounds down range is mo' better than a bolt gun. If you plan to suppress, 18" plus suppressor is getting long. Attached File |

Got one of the Titanium phantoms back in 2012 from Silencer Shop. |

So im thinking about a Ruger Americain .308 with a 16" barrel this It will have a DeadAir SandMam .mil on the end of it i was worried about the 16" barrel length, guess i should not worry |

A handy rifle that is easy to move with, even if heavy is the rifle you will shoot the most and gain the most confidence and trust with. |

Attached File Do it! I have to add an adjustment gas block to mine for suppressed shooting. Ignore my 20 inch. |
|
Attached File You asked about PSA 18 inch? I have one. It outshines me but that isn't saying much. I only got one day to shoot it at 360 yards. I was keeping it on a paper plate in 10-20 mph winds so I can't attest for how well it could do. Please ignore the dirt ass kitchen. I cleaned the day after this photo lol. Have an 19 month old and working crazy hours doesn't leave much time for chores. |
|
TRY to find a 16 inch pencil barrel with enough gas block surface for a triangle FSB, let alone one WITH a triangle FSB installed. Gotta buy a .750 and roll my own. But I DO have a sweet undrilled forged .625 front sight base already so there's that. You guys realize the original AR-10 prototype weighed 6.85lbs empty with a 20 inch barrel? |

What rifle is this? I havent seen this remington model |

The velocity loss from 18” to 16” isn’t even worth mentioning. Since the bore is larger, there’s more area for the gas to burn in the bore versus a 5.56, so you won’t see as big of swings in velocity. Get a POF Rogue or a Ruger SFAR. There’s no excuse for battle rifles that weigh around 9 pounds or more unloaded. Most 308 AR’s are fat pigs that are out of their element anywhere but from a bench/bipod. Fuck that. |

Quoted: Is the ramp better than the dual ejectors? When I built a precision AR10 in 6.5CM, the dual ejector was THE thing that supposedly helped it run. Quoted: Quoted: Get the aero bcg instead of the toolcraft. It is ramped and will fit the lower receiver better. Is the ramp better than the dual ejectors? When I built a precision AR10 in 6.5CM, the dual ejector was THE thing that supposedly helped it run. I just put together a 20” 308 AR10 upper. I was researching the same stuff as you. I was all set to get the double ejector toolcraft from Arm or Ally since they had the best price. I don’t remember the specific sites I found the info but apparently the double ejector is only really worthwhile on short barrels. Not sure if 16” counts as short. Apparently the non-ramped bcg will bugger up the threads on the lower receiver for the buffer unless the lower receiver is cut for this. Not sure if it’s true but in the end I decided to just go with an Aero bcg. I ended up getting the Aero from a vendor here. He had the best price for NiB and fast shipping. https://www.ar15.com/forums/Equipment-Exchange/308-BCGs-Toolcraft-NiB-Aero-NiB-and-Fail-Zero-FREE-SHIPPING-SpiceTac/120-1868944/ |

I have a 16" 308 using all Aero parts, absolutely love it. Attached File |

If you are going to build a .308 AR, my only advice is to pick the lightest and shortest option that gets the job done for you. It's awfully tough to stay under 10lbs with a scope, full mag, sling and a suppressor. It's pretty easy to get to 13+ lbs if you aren't careful. |
![]() LMT MARS-H Review and 13.5" 308 at 1100 yards I have a 16 inch LMT MWS in .308 and now I'm going to go 13.5 inch barrel. |
