Ah, another sig hate thread popping up.

While sprinkles of useful information may appear, the sheer hatred for sig from a few posters ruin every thread.  Any opposition to the hatred is attacked.  Sadly, they turn it into -the boy who cried wolf- or -a broken clock is right twice a day- experience.  They lose their credibility as no one knows for certain what time it is or if there is a live wolf out there everywhere at once or has it already been put down.

This is where I was. I got a M18 to replace my G19.  I really like the way it feld, I like the trigger, and was thinking about turrning into a carry comp type setup. Shortly after purchasing it, those videos started popping up and I said, fuck it man,  sold it to a firend and went down the 2011 route.

Go see the 320 thread

Here you go, i'll make it easier.  This one post summarizes most of the topic.  It's a very very long post, but includes the military topic.  Amongst a huge number of posted and linked reports and coverage of P320 discharges.

The good news is your individual unit probably won't actually fail.   Probably.  We still have no guidance from Sig on that, but there is a way to test now if your unit is already failing.  Beware, the parts are so poorly designed and made, that doing the test could damage them if you do it often.  Because that's the P320.  i'll let you read up on it.

https://www.ar15.com/forums/General/SIG-The-P320-It-ends-today-/5-2782910/?page=54#i113174948

It does include some of the drop-discharge failures, which are a separate topic that SIG's high ethical standards still have them never officially confirming can happen.  But the real crux today is the holster discharge issue - which is also discussed at length.

While I have no explicit love for the 320, when someone asks for examples of .mil 320 failures, you can't link an entire thread as your source!

That's akin to saying "Just google it".

You're being lazy. Just read the one post linked.

You guys seem to think he actually wants examples.  This is a lazy man's way of refuting an argument he doesn't like be basically saying "no way."  Then when you say "way," he just says "no way" again.

After shooting an issue M17 I wondered what all the fuss was.  The trigger wasn't great, the ergonomics weren't great, and it was a chonk of a pistol.

The swappable fire controls/frame was neat-o but not neat-o enough for me to want one.

Add in alleged NDs and it's a hard nope.

I know the SIG fanboys will die on this hill, though.

The boy who cried wolf?  The wolf was there the whole time, malling people at night.

wah wah.

Gun shoots people on its own dude.  It's hospitalized more people than a bus accident and killed at least one dude that we know of.  On its own.

Between settlements and case loses, SIG has got to be $20,000,000 in injury loses, and I suspect at least double that.

You bet your ass people aren't going to let that go.  In fact, they are going to harp on that again, and again, and again, and again, in fact.  Maybe you should listen - it's your closed ear leg they are trying to save.

I think we should probably refine that description. I like (many) Sig products, and carried a P239 for a decade before they unceremoniously discontinued it. My P229 may be my favorite pistol; in fact the whole P220 series of handguns are some of the finest designs ever produced.

This is an unpopular opinion here, but I really like my Sig 556. It's been a great rifle and has yet to break a part of malfunction in several thousand rounds. So as someone who likes some of their products that everyone else seems to shit on I am by no means a "SIG hater."

Where they went wrong in my eyes was the P250. Clunky, poorly balanced, didn't really seem like there was a lot of work that went into the design. Even still, it was a safe pistol that appeared to work just fine.

The P320 just feels low effort. Why does it have such a high bore axis if it's striker fired? The balance is terrible. The trigger is good for a striker gun, but unremarkable outside of that context. Everything about it says cost cutting. I was not especially fond of the M9, but I came to appreciate it much more after turning them in for M18s.

Have you considered Israeli Carry, rapid tourniquet application, and/or knee replacements?

Here's the "Punch Test" - how you can determine if your striker safety is working or not.  It's probably working, but I'd go see your armorer if it's not:

I’ve heard a theory that Cohen was determined to salvage some of the sunk costs for the P250 by having it adapted to a striker design.

I'll just preempt the argument you've used in three or four threads now:

No, Tier 1 military units do not carry loaded 320s in holsters for more hours than a regular beat cop does. Hell, they don't carry them loaded in holsters more than an MP standing at the guard shack at Camp BFE does.

And no, not hearing reports of them going off in Delta's holsters does not mean it hasn't happened, nor would such an instance, if it did occur, "make it all the way to the White House".

yep
Weak argument that's already been discredited by as you say.  It comes down to hours.  Failure rate is on the order of 1/10,000(?)   Are 10,000 Delta operators carrying 24/7?  If a Delta has a holster discharge, you sure he's gone to run to command and report the issued firearm under his control discharged?

I image the Mayberry OK police department has more hours of hostered lint-clogged P320 time than all of Delta/Seals/Green Berets combined.

I frankly don’t understand the response from people who dismiss these issues. It strikes me as simple stubbornness. Ditch your P320's and like what I like or else your so wrong you don't even know how wrong you are.

uh huh.  The gun has put more people in the hospital than a bus accident - on it's own.  Costing SIG what, $20,000,000? in loses and settlements so far.

So you bet your ass people in the threads you keep clicking on, are going to be insufferable addressing individuals who start threads asking about the safety.  Some of us kind of care about fellow members not having their gun shoot them in their leg - and will address that topic when a member anew asks questions about it.   Stop clicking on P320 threads if that's too irksome.

Yes. It's all tiresome.  Doom Gloom, Sig Bad. Ron Cohen is bad (like he alone made the P320 and any decision about it from here on out). Yer just a Glock fanboi who's pissed the 320 won the .mil contract, SIG leg is just a renaming of Glock leg b/c Glock fanbois are pissed, Indian MIM is fine for FCU components, the .mil isn't having problems b/c they don't load their pistols, USAF Security Police are just patrolling golf courses rolling around in their office chairs on the fairways w/ unloaded guns, Pre 80's 1911s have the exact same problem, the guy who died in his basement probably shot himself in the leg for the life insurance money for his widow, even the Puerto Rican cop agrees he shot himself in the leg...

What did I miss?

yea the dismissals..  right.

FWIW
I don't own a Glock.  Glock had questionable scruples themselves, at first.   I actually care about safety - not my pistol purchase identity topic.

I frankly don't understand the response from people who dismiss these issues. It strikes me as simple stubbornness. It's a piece of questionable safety gear when there are dozens(?) of comparable pistols that don't have a cloud hanging over them. Plastic striker pistols are damn near interchangeable and most of us already own several.

It's pretty normal for folks to have weird emotional attachment to stuff. I think that's the problem. Some refuse to believe it and that's alright, their opinion. Plus it isn't a widespread issue if we are being honest. It clearly happens. It clearly needs to be addressed. But I don't believe every 320 is in danger of UD'ing. But the design is flawed since it allows it to happen.

Individual odds are quite low.

Absolutely. I know someone who got shot by their 320. We aren't close so I don't have any inside info. But it happened. Lawsuit is ongoing.

Knowing them I was skeptical at first. But with all of this info now? I believe the version of how it went down. Especially after watching the Three P320s In A Trench Coat videos

Probably 99% of 320s have working striker blocks.  1st problem is, we don't know that percentage.  2nd problem is, we don't know if the striker blocks fail over time, or are defective from the factory.  If your pistol passes the punch test this morning 10 out of 10 times, is it safe?  We don't know the mechanism causing the striker blocks to fail.  Does the punch test damage the striker block?  We don't know that either.  The punch test could make the striker block more likely to fail.  It could make the striker more likely to break and fail to fire.

Even if your striker block isn't working, your striker is unlikely to slip off the sear and shoot you in the leg.  You need two failures to become a statistic.  But this is one of those extremely low statistical failure rates w/ a catastrophic outcome - same reason we don't shelter under trees in a thunderstorm.  It's very unlikely you're going to get struck by lightning, but it can have catastrophic consequences for you, a significant increase in your widow's bank account, and a small amount of paperwork for your life insurance company.

Because they, generally, don't issue the weapons, don't carry them loaded, and likely don't even train with them.

Wut?

Tier 1 units carry 320's ?

My son is in SF, 1st Group. They all have G19's.

I have no clue what any of the other units use.

I believe it is mission dependent regarding if they/he carries. I've never asked him that.  Or what condition they carry in.

They shoot quite a bit. A little less than a few years ago (budget constraints).

I believe he said the $$$ is starting to pick back up again since the election...fyi
