As opposed to my other cousin who is a Marine and well you can draw your own conclusions on how he presents himself.

With bumper stickers, t-shirts & car magnets?

In my experience the quicker someone is to tell you they're a Marine, the further they are from combat arms.

Tattoos …. He is Force Recon, been through sniper school and as gung-ho as they come.

Eh, good for him. At least he's doing something worth bragging about. One of the most obnoxious Marines I ever met was little troll female who did something with computers. Started every sentence with "Well, I'm a Marine, and blah blah blah".

Don Shipley will verify him for you.  Go to his website with the info you have and proceed accordingly.  He has detailed instructions on how to get the dude verified.

Do exactly this thing. Don is a great guy and will gladly do this, not just for phony SEALs, for any phony special ops types. If possible get pics of him and that gay ass bag he's carrying around, shirts, etc. Don will not only confirm or deny, he will out him and make a you tube vid on it. He only has about 100 on there already. They are hilarious.

Well, maybe she just had pride in being a Marine?    Everyone serves some kind of purpose - and she DID complete Marine boot camp.  Marines don't make fun of clerks cutting their checks on payday, you know.

About 17 years ago, a co worker at an auto shop called me a seal. I was on the ground adjusting the legs on the car hoist to put it up in the air, and since I was a fat sloppy mess he started laughing at me. I asked what was so funny. He says "pinche foca" and I started laughing too. Pinche foca is "fucking seal".

Usually the loudest and proudest Marines that suck the most. If she was a pog wook then she has a 90% chance at sucking at almost everything Marines actually do, like being in shape and PTing and shooting and not being pregnant or constantly on light duty.

I work at a charter school.  Last couple of days I've seen a gentleman with a district ID card (not one of our faculty ones) in the halls. The card would indicate he is a PSR or some such.  He always carries a tan canvas bag with a big red cross on it labeled NAVY SEAL/US NAVY/SEAL TEAM/NAVY MEDIC/SEAL CORPSMAN and the locations Lebanon, Lybia, South America, Panama, Persian Gulf, Bagdad (his spelling), Beirut, etc, etc.  This is all done in red and black sharpie.  I had assumed it was the bag of a SpecEd middle school student he deals with .

Today he shows up with the bag, a notebook covered in NAVY SEALS stickers, and he's wearing a NAVY SEAL T-shirt (not dress code), I realized it's HIS stuff, not the kid's.  I asked him "What's with all the Navy SEAL stuff?", he mumbles, "It's me".  I said, "You were in the Teams?"  He replies, "I just retired from the Navy."  I then asked, "As a SEAL?"  He finally says, "Yeah I was a SEAL in the 80's and 90's."  I commented, "Wow, Navy Special Warfare, huh."  He seemed a bit confused by the NSW comment.

I talked with him for a couple of minutes and got this:

NAME: (I won't post in GD)
DATES OF SERVICE: 1980's and 90's
SERVED WITH: Teams 3 and 5
BUDS CLASS NUMBER: He stammered a bit and came up with 62
AGE: He appears to be mid to late 40's.

I know a couple of West Coast SEALS who served in the late 80's and early 90's, he had never heard of them.  Obviously everything seems off.  I only had the chance to chat with him for a couple of minutes, he avoided me later on when I saw him.  I'm generally a MYOB kind of guy, but Stolen Valor makes me mad.  From the bag I'm sure he'll claim to be a medic, I can bust him easy if that's the case ( a few TC3 type questions ought to do it).  Any advice on how to proceed?  I'm sure there are some sites that can verify him by name as well.

UPDATE: IMed his name and info. to a member here to verify if he served at all.  Sent Don Shipley a message on Facebook and mentioned the hounds of AR15.com had told me to send him the guy's information.  I will play nice the next few days and try to get a phone # and some good poser stories for Mr. Shipley.  Hopefully you guys will have a funny new video to watch soon!

I'm going to go with Fake based on the two SEALs I have known.

one was retired, all he would say about his career was that the navy was good to him and his primary tasks included getting people to and from the airport and occasionally taking out the trash if needed. his VERY full shadow box in his den held the eagle/trident pin among other things.

the other would talk if asked but didn't advertise.

You did the math?

In the 80's and you say possibly late 40's?  Lets assume 47, lets assume 87 too.

That means he was 20 years old in the seals?  That's pretty close to the record of 17/18.  Assume he served earlier than 87 or hes younger than 47.... that would make it impossible.

Yep, did the math, problem is his age is hard to guess.  He could be a 55 year old with a decent head of hair...

If that bag of his is full of hair products, he may be legit.
Or it might contain his book/movie deal.

I'm not denigrating her service; nothing happens without support.  I'm denigrating her attitude.  An obnoxious braggart is an obnoxious braggart, no matter what they may or may not have done.  And in a room full of military, which she was, she had accomplished nothing special.

I've known both kinds.  The quiet guys who acknowledge their SEALdom but are humble about it.  And then there are the SEALS who would carry around a full size trident if it got them more attention. Yes, they do exist.  But I'll let you guess which type were the better operators.

As for OP's guy...def sounds fake.  Even the braggy type, that isn't how they go about it.

I used to have a neighbor who was all of 22 who would tell the most magnificent tales of his days in the SEALs......

He was a pathological liar and I knew it from the day he moved in.

After talking with his dad who is a NC Hwy Patrolman, I learned he was a peon in the navy for less than a year and was kicked out for drugs.

He went to rehab and his dad, who had bought the house for him to live in, sold it to a great guy who I am proud to have as a neighbor.

I have a customer who really was a SEAL and he is quiet about it. A really cool guy in his 50s. He is a formidable man now, he had to be a beast back then.
