For the Jiro posters. Anthony Bourdain did a No Reservations episode like 15 years ago in Tokyo where he went to Jiro's. Even a decade later he still said that he would want an omakase course from Jiro as his final meal.

So now I just do it all Chirashi/Donburi/Poke style. Just some cut up salmon/tuna with diced avocado and cucumber over rice in a bowl. This is from the last time I tried, left is a cali roll with avocado on top, middle two are shrimp tempura with unagi, right is just plain shrimp tempura. Tastes fine, looked a mess.  |

That, or a crowded berthing area on an LPD in a South China Sea typhoon after breaded fish for chow. Either way, it's the smell as much as anything. |

There's a local place that does a sushi/Mexican cross over. It's outstanding. They have traditional sushi, but also do rolls including Mexican ingredients. I had a fried tuna roll which included jalapeno and was great. Neat little twist on American sushi.
