That's not a bad idea. I promise to keep my stick on the ice. |

If you do requests, I'd like to hear something by Dave Dee Dozey Beaky Mick and Tich or maybe a Little Zamfir!
Kind of a tall order... |
Ok then how bout somthing by Stanky Yankovic and the Coal Miners!
Thin Lizzy. It's "Sweet Marie" from the Johnny The Fox album in '76. |

And hey look - it just played another Thin Lizzy tune. This one is "A Song For While I'm Away" from the Vagabonds Of The Western World album in '72.
I guess the randomizer wanted mellow stuff for a bit. |
You probably have, and you just didn't know it. They're more known for tunes like Jailbreak and The Boys Are Back In Town. |

You do know its just an audio stream right? |

Did you try opening the URL I posted in Media Player? |

No, but I do have Backdoor Santa. |

Well, I'll certainly give you credit for having a better "ear" than most of the people your age, and even quite a few that are quite a bit older than you, so kudos to you!
In the one hour I've been listening, I've found a genre' that's missing however, so I'm a little surprised. This group of people made up less than 10% of the population, yet had TREMENDOUS influence on the music world. If you've got Sirius, go to 53, or 60 on XM, and listen to 20-30 minutes each sometime. Similar formats, but different enough to be interesting. Granted it's your station, and you can play whatever you want. The only point I'm trying to make is this music was too important to be ignored IMHO. |
Help me out - what am I missing? I've played country, bluegrass, folk, blues and rock so far. |
OK, I'm guessing you don't have Sirius or XM.
The answer is SOUL MUSIC, and great it is! ETA: generally started in the 50's, and was over by the 70's (for the most part) though there are exceptions. |
Gimme some examples. I might have it. Taking a quick glance at the playlist, I've got some Sly & The Family Stone, Billy Paul, Booker T, Commodores, Curtis Mayfield, Issac Hayes, Parliament (not really sure that counts), Rare Earth (they're white, but...), Otis Rush and even some Wilson Picket. |
I must confess that I don't own a whole heck of a lot before 1965 or so. My absolute favorite stuff tends to have been made in the late 60's or early 70's, so that's what I subconsciously end up looking for most of the time.
That said, my tastes ARE varied, as should be plainly obvious by now. |
Unfortunately, no. I've been trying to come up with something, but I just can't make it work. The issue is, you're hearing whatever comes out my soundcard. If I played a youtube video or something right now, you'd hear it. That's how the Windows Media Encoder is configured. There isn't a way for me to feed the WME the id3 tags from the mp3's, and subsequently, there's no way for it to feed that info to my server (which is what you're connected to). I'll come up with something eventually, but I'm stuck right about now. I don't usually do this (this is the setup I use to do my video broadcasts), so it's kinda been low on the priority list. |
You've got a pretty good start there. Otis Redding is a must have, of course James Brown, Ray Charles. Aretha Franklin, really waaaaay to many to mention. Look at the labels of Atlantic, Motown, Stax, they were the biggest players in the that type in the music world at the time, but a lot of great songs by indie artists/ labels, though harder to find. |
FUCKYEAH !!!!!!!!!!!! SABBATH BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Electric Funeral!!!!!!
How about Hand Of Doom, you got that one Subnet?????? |
Thanks for the tip. I don't have a lot of soul music, so it kinda gets lost in my HUGE play list. It's there, there just isn't a lot of it. You'll hear it eventually. I can move it around, though. Maybe I'll nudge James Brown up a little. |
THANK YOU!
If you've got "Aint' That A Groove" by James Brown, man, I'd love to hear that! There must be some kind of licensing problem with that particular tune, as I haven't been able to find it on any compilation works. Too late, I hear James now! What an artist! Thanks again for playing. |
Next song, I got another one for ya. |
You actually recognized that one! |
You keep slippin' that stuff in, and I'm going to wind up a regular listener! |

What the...!!! |
Like I told you before the last time you were on air, I listen to a wide range of music, especially stuff from mid 60's to the late 70's. You & I listen to alot of the same genres & such. |
if you'd add me on MSN I'd send you some |
I'll keep that in mind. I can't d/l anything right now though, because it'll eat up my bandwidth and kill the broadcast. |
I don't expect anybody to get this one. If you do, you're a musical FREAK...
EDIT: Even I would've had trouble with it. |
