[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Stay safe Memphis, TN. Tyre Nichols Murder. Update: Officers charged. Video released. (Page 19 of 27)

Quoted: From what I heard they are unable to find any video evidence of the alleged reckless driving that prompted the stop. Quoted: Quoted: I haven't really paid attention to this case, and I don't really give a shit anymore if the usual suspects burn it down. They're just gonna do what they're gonna do at this point and no one is gonna stop them. But just out of curiosity, what did the cops pull the kid over for in the first place? What started all of it? From what I heard they are unable to find any video evidence of the alleged reckless driving that prompted the stop. Someone earlier in the thread said that they heard abotu commentary from a higher ranking officer who saw the video and said he didn't see reckless driving in it? It'd be good if whoever posted that could say where they got the info. |
|
It appears they stopped him for something beyond a simple traffic violation. He was resisting and the initial encounter at the vehicle, while it could have been handled better, appears likely lawful. The second encounter after he runs, there doesn’t appear to be any real attempt to secure him and the force does appear to go beyond that required. There were enough officers to pretty easily restrain him but they seemed to want to just hit him until he fully complied with their directions, which doesn’t work. Doesn’t look quite as bad as it was made out to be but still bad and they are likely going to prison for it. |
|
Quoted: Dont you think that IF there was ANY video of the reckless driving or ANY video of behaviour by the deceased that justified his being dragfed from the car and placed on the ground.......to issue him a fucking citation......... It would have been released too. So they just hunted this guy down, stopped him in the middle of the street and yanked him out of his car? Gang hit? Personal? I doubt it, possible I guess. But I doubt it. |

uh, yeah... No. |

Quoted: Like others I have no idea what prompted the initial stop. I agree with some that he was clearly resisting and not complying despite his claims. Do we not see that in so many LE encounters. It is irrelevant that this went down near Tyre's house because you do not get to ignore police and take off. Tyre decided to run so I have no doubt that the police were wondering if the guy was running for something on top of this. I watched the pole came vid twice and it appears one officer delivered the kicks and punches. I see what appears to be a new officer come in with his baton and level a couple of strikes which if they were to the head went beyond. I still believe he was resisting and did not have both hands cuffed at all of these times. I have no problem with pain compliance to get someone cuffed up but kicking someone in the head and punching them in the head like that while other officers are hands on went way beyond. Had it been one officer fighting I would have been fine with anything as the officer does not have to lose the fight or his life if your resisting arrest. Some lawyers are making an issue out of the statement about stomping and trying to say that could mean they wanted him dead which could mean a 1st degree murder charge. I think that is ridiculous and I do not care what threats the officer made in an effort to get Tyre to comply. We see officers make threats all of the time in an effort to warn and get a suspect to comply. Kidnapping charge is a WTF as well as some other weapons charge. I do not see five officers engaged in the same behavior. I definatley see one officer who is going down and potentially a second who used the baton last. I see the defense attorneys asking two officers did you know that such and such officer was going to come in a start kicking and punching the suspect and the answer will be no as it happened so fast. It is most definitely not clear cut he was resisting. Without knowing why they stopped him, there is no reasonable way to claim they were even giving him lawful orders to begin with. If Tyre didn't do anything to warrant the stop, then the police were wrong to even attempt to arrest him. They can't just decide to arrest someone without probably cause. So it's ironic you can claim he is resisting the whole time without knowing if they could even arrest him to begin with. You can argue it wasn't a good idea to resist but you can't argue it was wrong without knowing. That is where the kidnapping charge would come in. If there was no lawful reason to detain and arrest him, then yes they did kidnap him. Why are the officers allowed to threaten whatever they want and that somehow doesn't matter? You mean to tell me if the opposite had happened and Tyre threatened to kill the cop, you would be ok with that behavior and the cop shouldn't react any differently? If the cop is threatening to beat him severly and then he proceeds to do just that, it is logical to believe the cop premeditated beating him to death. How is that ridiculous? It sounds like you are of the opinion cops can do whatever they want to subdue someone. It is laughable you think the other cops can somehow use the defense they didn't know the other officers were going to hit and kick him. They literally helped hold him so they could do that. Are you blind? |

It would have been released too. So they just hunted this guy down, stopped him in the middle of the street and yanked him out of his car? Gang hit? Personal? I doubt it, possible I guess. But I doubt it. Well it certainly is not how police usually issue a citation. IF there was an offense committed by the deceased, I am sure the video would be published. |

There are already rumors flying that this was a gang related hit and I think good info that informs us that that pd knowingly hires felons. |

Quoted: It reminded me of watching the Shield Quoted: Quoted: The beating looked personal to me. There was a reason behind it. Those cops knew what they were doing. Telling him to put his hands behind his back was just lip service for any bystanders. The ones with body cams stayed behind or kept walking away as to not point the cams towards the beating. It reminded me of watching the Shield It reminded me of watching the Shield As a huge fan of The Shield, thats not good. |

Quoted: I've seen all four videos. In the first video when the officer is seen via body cam arriving on scene, there is already a police car to the left of Tyre's car. There is an officer standing at the passenger side of Tyre's car either opening the door, or with the door already open, telling the guy to get out of the car. Why? Quoted: Quoted: Ever had a citation for a traffic violation ? Did it go like this - You sat in your car. Officer pointed out the offense without any obscenities. Gave you a ticket and you drove home. Or did it go like this - Officer flings your door open. Drags you out while screaming obscenities including threats to "Blow you up". Threw you on the ground and demanded you lay face down. I've seen all four videos. In the first video when the officer is seen via body cam arriving on scene, there is already a police car to the left of Tyre's car. There is an officer standing at the passenger side of Tyre's car either opening the door, or with the door already open, telling the guy to get out of the car. Why? If this was any other cop cam that didn't go this route, we'd have GD screaming PA vs Mimms, police don't need to tell a reason to get someone out a car. If it was a High Crime Area, gang task force, to get someone out for a weapons pat down.. PA vs Mimms.... As soon as I saw the hoodies, undercover, I knew right away high crime/gang task force, shit was gonna go down hard and fast no matter the circumstances. These weren't going to be "license please yes sir no sir" type cops What sucks is this is now going to add yet again more shit to pile of every POC police encounter |

Quoted: There are already rumors flying that this was a gang related hit and I think good info that informs us that that pd knowingly hires felons. My initial thoughts were he was seen reckless driving. He was yanked out of the car to prevent him from taking off like a pinball down the road. But now you guys have me wondering if this was a gang related stop. I mean I am not an unreasonable person, opinionated for sure, but I can be see your point. |

There is an officer standing at the passenger side of Tyre's car either opening the door, or with the door already open, telling the guy to get out of the car. Why? What happened in that time frame? We have not seen all the evidence. Where is the cop's body cam that is standing on the passenger side? If I arrive on scene and my partner/co-worker officer has already established this guy needs to exit his vehicle, I am going to go along with his judgement and extricate the suspect post haste. Tyre failed to get on his stomach because he was shocked he was dragged out of his car unexpectedly and without warning, or maybe he thought he didn’t do anything to warrant a stop and wanted to play “what did I do wrong” game. Like another poster said, maybe them having unmarked cars blurred the lines. I’m not sure why they didn’t release footage from the initial stop. They took the the time to release these 4 videos, why not video that led up to him being dragged out? |

What the hell were you expecting, a cartel torture video? They literally beat him to death and did not even attempt to render aid. The guy was literally falling over when he was propped up on the car due to his injuries and the officer repeatedly tells him he can't go nowhere. How the hell can you and a few others write this off so easy? Who cares if he resisted? Resisting does not mean the officers now have free reign to beat you into submission. Trained or not, most normal people realize beating someone severely like that is not a proper way to detain them. Especially someone who wasn't attempting to fight back. His resisting was relatively minor. Seemed more like a mechanism to defend himself then to cause problems. |

Quoted: So they just hunted this guy down, stopped him in the middle of the street and yanked him out of his car? Gang hit? Personal? I doubt it, possible I guess. But I doubt it. It’s Memphis so… To me it looks like thugs beating someone to death. This time the thugs happen to be uniform, and should be punished for their thuggery. |

No video because it could have been as simple as pulling in front of or flipping off one of the drivers in an unmarked. Who knows right? But at the end of the day those 5 and their cohorts didn't care about video from a squad or their own personal cameras. Why? Because it was accepted practice. Lord knows that we have seen enough of these select squads go feral for a long time. |

Definitely not the first time that they viciously assaulted someone. |

Second thing is that if there is something it just makes the dept. look worse. I have a real hard time believing that if there were any video at all that showed the victim doing something it would not have been released. |

When white cop at the first scene repeatedly said "I hope they stomp him" I instantly thought "Yeah thats a thing with them" |

They took the the time to release these 4 videos, why not video that led up to him being dragged out? Yup. We've seen videos where suspects are directed to exit the vehicle, and continue to not comply, pulling the "Why? What did I do? I dindu nuffin..." right before flooring it and taking off, or pulling a gun and blasting away, so I could certainly see them getting aggressive when pulling someone from a vehicle IF they've already been non-compliant (and especially if as someone says, they claim that he already had evaded a stop). The question is why was none of the footage leading up to the stop, released? Was there some reason for the stop and the aggressiveness? Or is it that there was no reason for the officers' behavior, right from the start? |
|
The victim could've done more to comply. But not sure it would've helped him. But this is straight up homicide. I hope they all go to prison. Far as I'm concerned, you could easily argue capital punishment is fitting for at least a couple of those uniformed thugs. |
|
I was visiting a friend/patient today that grew up with the victim’s father in CA and knows the victim and family quite well. She has been pretty shaken up about the situation. For what it is worth, she said Tyre was kind of a nerdy kid, was a good worker, didn’t get into trouble, didn’t do drugs. I haven’t seen any of the videos and actually know very about the details of the incident. |

They took the the time to release these 4 videos, why not video that led up to him being dragged out? Not to mention the repeated threats levied by officers at him before they even yanked him out. I think a reasonable person would have some concerns about their safety. Since the police have not seen fit to release any info on what led up to the stop that I've seen I must conclude they pulled him over for no reason, or targeted him. This should have been their greatest exculpatory evidence to justify their action. Very strange nothing was released. |
|
A complete guess but I can think of one scenario that would fit the failure to publish the reckless driving video. Thug in unmarked car cuts off the deceased. The deceased flips him off. All caught on camera. Thug, being a cop finds it hard to be wrong. Thug decides to pretend the deceased drove recklessly to justify the stop. And his ego dictated it was going to be drag him from the car rather than issue a citation through the window. High ranking officer decides this video would make things worse. And in its absence at least the pro cops people would believe "Well, he must have done something wrong to justify getting dragged from the car". No doubt the reason for the stop will come up in court. Assuming the ex-officers survive til then. |

| They beat him like this just because he ran from them. He hadn't shot at them, or tried to run them over, he hadn't been fighting with them, he just ran. He wasn't a violent felon, gang banger, or rapist. Just a 29 year old Fed Ex worker without any sort of criminal record. They found it acceptable to give a beat down like that just because he ran. |

Those cops had no intention of following the law. They were out for blood from the get go. Running is the natural reaction to being surrounded by a pack of murderers |

Quoted: You mean the Confederacy from 160 years ago? Quoted: Quoted: So safest states were not in the confederacy. Some of the *facts* sowell have written would make a lot of the yutzes who stupidly consider themselves race realists have a stroke. False ideas don't take well to being examined. |

Based on review of the lead up they didn't have a reason they wanted to claim so they lied about reckless driving. |

You already release footage of police using the victim as a punching bag and his head as a soccer ball. Is video of him doing nothing going to be the the straw that breaks the camels back after showing officers beating him like a pinata with a baton? |
