Quoted: Yes Quoted: Quoted: Bled out in the hospital? Yes Man, if that wasn't internal bleeding ... How the heck people die of bleeding with the clotting agents we have now ... @20229mm Am I off base thinking it's really wierd for someone to die of bleeding out nowadays unless something has gone REALLY sideways? |

Quoted: I'm going to guess trauma to the brain will be the proximate cause of death. The taser wasn't very effective and the OC spray ended up on the officers as much as on the suspect. The beating, however, went entirely one way. I didn't see the deceased throw a punch or kick. He tried to get loose and get away, but he didn't manifest any aggression. Quoted: Quoted: So, have they determined the final cause of death? Was it as a result of the beating, the tasering, the pepper spray, a combo, what? I'm going to guess trauma to the brain will be the proximate cause of death. The taser wasn't very effective and the OC spray ended up on the officers as much as on the suspect. The beating, however, went entirely one way. I didn't see the deceased throw a punch or kick. He tried to get loose and get away, but he didn't manifest any aggression. One of the cops standing around after, tried to claim that Tyre tried to go for his gun (actually says something like, "He literally had his hand on my gun"). No idea what happened before the pole camera panned over, but I definitely didn't see him fighting, swinging, or reaching for anyone's sidearm. Was he resisting? Yeah, in the initial stop, he refused to lie on his stomach and put his right arm behind him, and when they kept asking, and trying, he used the opportunity to squirm out and bolt. Used the same technique in the 2nd video, laying on his right side without putting his right arm behind his back. At some point, they were spraying him in the face, then kicking and striking, and he was just trying to protect his head by that point, but again, don't know why the culture seems to be all about noncompliance, while repeating, "What did I do? I didn't do nuthin!". The roadside isn't the place to argue with LE, while refusing to comply. No idea what kind of "Respect My Authority!" types you might piss off (like the white officer who cuffs the skinny white kid, then drags him to the pavement and deliberately drops him on his face from a few feet up, while the kid's hands are cuffed behind his back). |

Quoted: They already have to abide by reasonable use of force guidelines. The only difference is that police have a duty to arrest which average joes do not. As a result of that there is some extra leeway, but police cannot resort to lethal force (which they did here) when someone is passively resisting them to effect arrest. Quoted: Quoted: What do you think the chances are that this eventually causes a legal change where leos are no longer allowed to elevate above the threat presented to them, and wind up in the boat with the rest of us at proportional force? They already have to abide by reasonable use of force guidelines. The only difference is that police have a duty to arrest which average joes do not. As a result of that there is some extra leeway, but police cannot resort to lethal force (which they did here) when someone is passively resisting them to effect arrest. Somewhere I have heard that they are allowed to elevate one level of force above what is presented to them. Branca? Ayoob? It'd be one of those fellows, because they're the ones I've had occasion to listen to online. |

Quoted: You are almost certainly correct. I misread his post, and will correct my reply. Thanks. Quoted: Quoted: You guys don't understand sarcasm? Pretty sure unseenSNIPER is criticizing the criminals, who claimed the reason they pulled him over, was for reckless driving (the fabrication to provide a reason for the initial stop). You are almost certainly correct. I misread his post, and will correct my reply. Thanks. All good. Seeing how high-profile this situation is, I really doubt brass within that department would want to make this worse. |
| Initial response and attitude by cops goes a long way, I've had two encounters with police for speeding less than 10mph over, one was very polite and and answered my questions and the other did not , I'm sure you can guess which one I have a positive opinion of and which one I don't. |
|
Quoted: Am I off base thinking it's really wierd for someone to die of bleeding out nowadays unless something has gone REALLY sideways? I'm not an expert on combat trauma, but packing a wound to the torso to stop an arterial bleed there is tough to do. TQ's are highly effective for massive bleeding in the limbs assuming you can get the TQ higher than the bleed...which can sometimes be difficult. Bleeds to the brain? There's nothing you can do about that on scene. Trauma to the brain is most likely what proved fatal here. |

Or no medical aid was rendered, which is what it looks like might have happened. |
|
Quoted: He didn't comply on the initial stop, though. No chance to comply when it was an attack from the very beginning. As other have said this was life or death from the start. Not any degree of professionalism by the officers. A carjacking if not for the uniforms. |

Quoted: I don't know that they will. Only thirteen people have been executed since the death penalty was brought back in Tennessee. Only 46 people are on death row. I think you have to be found guilty of First degree murder with certain additional conditions. Thanks, didn't know that. I guess a life sentence then. |
|
Quoted: Looked like the dude was on drugs for sure. Kept resisting even after getting his s$;t beat out. They started off beating his ass right out of the gate. One cop holding his arm down while another cop is yelling “give me your hand!” and they’re steadily beating him. If you’re trying to comply and people continue to beat you how would you react? |
|
To those who say he should have just complied. Lay face down and not resist...... If YOU get stopped for a traffic violation, expecting to get a ticket. And sudennly you are dragged out of the vehicle by a thug and you believe you are in for a kicking at best and being murdered at worst....... Would you just lay face down and take your beating ?

Cops are currently charged with SECOND DEGREE MURDER Attached File |
|
Quoted: MSM calling for federalizing police forces yet? Yeap... 'cause federalizing the police is always a great idea... Attached File |
|
A Facebook friend is reporting that 'some people' are blocking traffic I-55. I don't know if it's related or not, just repeating what she said. It also made the news . |
|
Quoted: It's happened. NYPD had an amazing drug unit...that turned out to be planting evidence and doing all manner of other illegal shit. As usual it all got blamed on the low level people and the people with shit on their collar who loved the numbers and didn't do anything about how thy were obtained got off without penalty. I believe LAPD had a gang unit that started out doing good work, then turned to shit CRASH, I think. ETA: yep. CRASH https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/lapd/scandal/crashculture.html |

Quoted: Yup. There has been ZERO evidence that this guy did anything wrong whatsoever. He had a clean record. The only few words from him before being dragged from the car were not confrontational. He was fighting for his life from the start. Quoted: Quoted: Seriously, screw anyone trying to justify this. And screw anyone calling the victim any term that is synonymous with criminal. There is no indication he did ANYTHING WRONG. He fled clearly because of how violent the police were from the getgo. He probably thought he would take his chances running to his parents house. At least there would be witnesses. Unfortunately, he didn't make it. I don't wish harm on any of you who are cops but these cops in this video (all of them, not just the 5 charged) deserve whatever punishment comes their way. Either through the justice system or mob justice. Yup. There has been ZERO evidence that this guy did anything wrong whatsoever. He had a clean record. The only few words from him before being dragged from the car were not confrontational. He was fighting for his life from the start. I've yet to see a single justification for the stop or the initial insanely aggressive behavior of the officers who pulled him out. Violates the SOP and policy of any department I've ever known of. If he was resisting in the first half of the initial video it was passive at best, and it's yet another example of multiple officers screaming different commands. This is someone who was violently dragged out of a vehicle and assaulted yet seemed infinitely more calm than the officers themselves. I don't think any remotely decent police officer wants a single soul to defend the officers involved. The videos show multiple people acting like crazed gang members not cops. |
|
Quoted: Why? How does that change the actions we saw? Quoted: Quoted: Bad situation, but I'm waiting for the coroner's report before I lose my shit. Why? How does that change the actions we saw? Seriously. What is the coroner's report going to shed light on? We have on video from multiple angles a crystal clear abuse of force and violence. It wasn't like this was a one strike and down incident. They beat the fucking shit of out the poor guy. Are you worried he was on drugs? This is nothing like Chauvin and Floyd (that was a likely drug death). Even if dude was high as fuck - which based on no prior arrests and his clear speech before the beat down, is still irrelevant. |

Not sure how this applies to this situation. Did you actually watch any of the videos? It wasn't a standard traffic stop and the guy who was pulled over starts fighting with the cop. They were yelling at him and pulled him from the vehicle right away. How could the guy being nice change that? He was relatively calm but wouldn't go on his stomach. Why he did that, is speculation at this point. In my opinion, he was scared he was going to be hurt. It happened anyways regardless. |

Quoted: What do you expect? Body cams were supposed to be the end-all for criminals in court. Instead we have documented rampant cop misbehavior. Funny how that works. Quoted: Quoted: MSM calling for federalizing police forces yet? Body cams were supposed to be the end-all for criminals in court. Instead we have documented rampant cop misbehavior. Funny how that works. And if they think local PDs are bad, wait until they get this exact same culture entrenched in a *federal* police department. Than they'll wail and BEG for what we have right now, as bad as it is. |
| One of the worst crime-ridden shitholes in America. Cops were part of a special unit tasked with attacking street crimes. Someone earlier (unconfirmed) referenced the Chief herself handpicking members of the unit. I wonder if we'll discover soon through their defense that they were told to "take the gloves" and that they'd be covered. |
|
Quoted: What do you expect? Body cams were supposed to be the end-all for criminals in court. Instead we have documented rampant cop misbehavior. Funny how that works. Actually, statistics show and have been proven that BWCs actually don't show "rampant" cop misbehavior... BWCs were supposed to show exactly that and they actually show that cops interact more positively with the public. Not saying bad stuff doesn't happen, but it's not as rampant as people think. |

And plenty of times it supports and clears a cop when a citizen tries making fake claims against an officer. |

CRASH https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/lapd/scandal/crashculture.html I hard a friend who was LACSD. He specialized in stolen vehicles/chop shops. Former jarhead like me. He never said a good word about the LAPD crash unit. He'd hint around that they did some really sketchy shit but never really went into detail. I lost track of him when I transferred back to Ohio in 1995. He ended up bailing a few years later for small town NW Utah policing... |

Quoted: He didn't comply on the initial stop, though. Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: If he had complied right at the beginning he'd probably still be alive. Looks like the cops weren't very good at what they were doing. He never had the chance He didn't comply on the initial stop, though. How many seconds from stop to “get the fuck out the car” and acting like a damn thug with a badge. |
|
Quoted: They peppered sprayed themselves and took it out on Tyre Nichols. ^^^^This. I'm pretty sure that Officer Placekicker was the same one who was pepper-sprayed in the face in the initial stop video. I also believe he was the one who grounded his vest (with camera down) in the next video when he went to practice his field goal kicking. I'm also pretty sure that he's the one who landed several haymaker punches (one that snapped Nichols' head back) when they were holding him up. If that's all the same guy, I think he may be the one who said "I hope they stomp his ass" |
