I appeared to me that there are a few cry babies in the AZ forum that liked to push peoples buttons.

I suggest they grow a mangina and STFU for awhile till they cool down.

YMMV

It's amazing to me how shitty people can end up being to each other, and how easily they abuse the wealth of opportunities the Avilas have given us.  And that they CONTINUE to give to us in spite of the instances of incredible immaturity shown by a few, overly-entitled members.

No matter how much site sponsors or members pay towards the site's maintenance, I guarantee you it doesn't even begin to cover the actual costs of running the place and continuing to make it available for all, including those who've come to feel they are owed unlimited access and absolutely free reign to just be dickheads without worrying about the consequences.

How very Democratic of them...

CavArm's business was MADE on this site, IIRC- it began here, it grew here, and was successful because of it.  I'm happy for them, and think they have a unique product, but it would propably never have been if it wasn't for arfcom, IMO.  I suspect CavArms has gotten a whole lot more out of this deal than the Avilas, unless you count friendships and loyalties - and those apparently matter quite a bit to those who own and run this site.

We've ALL learned things here, bought/sold things here, had fun, argued/pissed each other off, and gotten together in ways no one would have EVER expected.

All because some incredibly generous and *tolerant* folks keep deciding every month that it's worth it foot the bill and try and do what it takes to keep this massive operation afloat.

How would YOU show gratitude to the people that made this possible?

As houseguests, do you plug up the toilet in the back of the house and then take off?  Do you have a loud party in the backyard till all hours of the night, leave empty bottles and cigarette butts all over the place, then fight with those who ask you to turn it down cuz it's bothering the neighbors?

Or do you get arguementative, pissy and rude, and then hide behind the rubric of "free speech" and accuse people of being "PC" when they ask you to just act decent and respect the wishes of our hosts, our friends, those we supposedly have loyalty to...?

Do you?

I voted that AZ needs to be banned. Half heartedly.

But seriously, do the guys who insisted on continuing to challenge authority and use ethnic slurs even afetr Ed Sr. politely asked them not to even realize their complicity in helping things get so out of hand? I'm betting they just refuse to accept any responsibility for the matter.

I don't necessarily agree with TBK and Aimless' actions, but I can see how things escalated to the point that a well respected long time member and Industry Partner eventually was the victim of overzealous moderation, got offended, and decides to take his ball and leave. It's unfortunate, but the staff are FAR from alone to blame for the incident. Why did the members insist on continuing to behave in a manner that staff had to get involved at all? Are you really that unable to control yourselves and show some decent behavior after having already been asked to?

I usually am completely unaware of the problem being referrenced.

Can we just go back to talking about guns, boobies and Al Pachino's gun?

Can we just return to the topics about the USS Liberty, Evolution and AKs vs. ARs?

We've been doing fine for years, we are gonna be ok if things are just left alone already.

We really are big boys, we can handle our mess.

ETA: Cav Arms is gone?

Over a word? Anyone got a link?

ETA: Nevermind I just found it all.

Seems like it was just the other day that members were bailing because they couldn't post soft porn any more.

Not too worry, people eventually come to their senses and if they don't, we're better off without them.

If some of you think that the owner or mods of this board are bad, then try going over to sturmgewehr.com and dealing with Buddy's abnoxious BS 24/7
This place is awesome compared to all others, & who cares if it isn't as you would run it....it is not yours to run & you don't have to come here....plain & simple

Everyone has been cool to me, I have no problems with anyone or any part of this board.
In fact when I get to be a moderator one day, I will search out and destroy all the scum!

Better yet, stay off the web and give the job you're being paid to do 100% (by the taxpayers?), before you send someone to the wrong house and someone gets hurt or dies waiting for help.

Then when you're off, you can come on and spout your angst while paying full attention to trying to make sense.  Jeeeze.

Contrary to your worst fears, ar15.com is not hell-bent for self-destruction.   Beefs happen, and the adults get over it.  If members don't keep throwing fuel or troll food on whatever problem, we get over it sooner.

This is not a democracy.  We are all guests, $upporting the site is just a way of giving back for the fun and help that's here.   Mods have come and gone, and it doesn't sound like an easy or fun job.  Most members can live with the fact that there needs to be some sensible bounds to what goes on here.
And the mods are not all out looking for just any excuse to lock threads or accounts.

This is ridiculous.  Why is this even being discussed?  It's the internet.

The moderators and staff set the rules, and you follow them or you leave.  It's a concious choice.  If someone manages to piss you off or you are distraught over leaving this site, then you have deeper issues.  Get a life.

It's a place to discuss things with like-minded people.  Discussions aren't interesting unless they become heated.  If people can't handle that and can't maintain discussions without breaking the rules, then they'll leave.  Others will come along.

I'll agree with you on the rest of your post wholeheartedly, I'm sure ARFCOM is not headed straight to hell.

However, how about you keep your job advising to yourself and leave people alone about what they're doing while posting. Nobody from ARFCOM messes with you at your job. I don't come and throw rocks at you when you're fucking mowing.

They don't know what mowing is out here.  Everything's manicured.

But you're right. I should keep my mouth shut.   Really, the people in the field LIKE to have their dispatchers distracted.  And the public's safer and better served.

Hey, I don't do it when I'm dispatching (at least at my full-time dispatching job) and as a supervisor, I won't allow those under me to do so either (during busy or stressful times), but during down-time it's actually useful, to a degree. I encourage my workers to read or have conversation or something of the sort. Distraction? Yes, but at least they're awake when that deputy starts screaming and not there in a daze or semi-counscious state from being bored. Tell ya what, give it a shot, then you can criticize it. I'm doing it about 65-75 hours a week right now, between two dispatching positions and guess what....I'm on the internet too!!

I can do more than one thing at a time. It really isnt that busy, and when it is, you dont see me posting.   When the public calls I put ARFCOM on hold and take care of the situation.  When my units need somthing, or when I am checking on them ARFCOM is once again on hold.  SO whats the problem?  Besides the fact you just dont like me questioning whats going on here at the website, whats the problem?  If no one ever questions anything, it might as well be the blind leading the blind.

I am on ARFCOM while on the radio sometimes.  Usually its slow, and like I said above, when stuff starts, ARFCOM is put on hold.  Its not hard to flip (alt+tab) from ARFCOM to CAD real fast.  When its time to SO and OD units, I am not on here because it is busy.  Honestly night shift is SLOOOW.....I dont know where you dispatch, it may be a big busy city or county.  Where I am at, it has its moments....tonite it happens to be quiet.....So I get to post.

Speaking of SOing and ODing...its time to switch and get my ass back on the radio.

I'm delighted to see so many examples of good old common sense here - FINALLY!!!  Everyone can have an opinion but getting into a pissing contest trying to exert dominion and power over the owners was not very astute.  I understand friendships and sticking together but sometimes friends should help each other stay in control too.  Too bad about the taunts and spinning up too far, especially the Cavarms folks, & I really do hope they get over it .

ARFCOM things are ok though.  Beer mugs wash up just fine but don't spit in one and expect to hear the bartender apologize, especially when the owner already said (and in no uncertain terms either) to hold it down.

LOGIC

A few refer to the word "tonk" as the sound of a Maglight impacting the head of an illegal alien.

Since our southern border spans the country of Mexico it is incidental that the criminals invading our borders sould happen to be Mexican in race.  I am certain a Maglight makes the same "tonk" sound impacting a Canadian's head.

Racism is discrimination based upon race.

If the term "tonk" should ever be used as derogitory terminology it would be applied to those who insist upon illegally invading our country's borders and laws.

Tonkism is discrimination upon illegal aliens.

This place started going down hill when "Fluffy the Cat" died.

Seriously for a moment; I've seen the same trends on other boards.  Do I see a trend forming on ARFCOM?

No.

I've never managed to put my finger on the root cause of why a board starts to fall apart. As unscientific my observation is, I've seen a pattern develope when boards like this start to decline. In my opinion, it starts when unwritten rules of conduct and behavior are broken and the board becomes a free for all of personalities. A good analogy is the broken window theory.

Usually it starts with two individuals and a ridiculous argument about a trivial matter (Let's say Ford vs. Chevy). It spins out of control and the board breaks down into seperate warring camps. Despite appeals, hard feelings are formed and the board members stuck in the middle of an argument thay don't understand bail from the board leaving only the groups who have little or nothing to do but argue endlessly about a pointless subject. I've seen the same thing happen time after time. Sometimes the board survives, sometimes it doesn't.

ARFCOM, I feel, is large enough and mature enough to survive these tribulations. I don't see any problems here.

This is the only gun board I read;  I feel like I'm a guest here, and see my piddly annual contribution of $20 as paying the cover charge to get into the party, where I can be asked to leave at any time.
I've argued here, and said some stupid things that pissed people off;  I've also learned a lot; just recently I argued a position Abe Lincoln took, only to learn later that I was wrong.
Its fun, its entertaining, and I appreciate the format.

In hindsight who was the bad guy?

It wasn't about 'soft porn' it was about making arfcom something entirely different where 80% of the current content on page one RIGHT NOW would be a CoC violation.

And given that suggested 'reform' I planned on posting a lot less since arfcom would become far less interesting.

Hmmm. Seems I was wrong. Not only have some mebers not gotten over it, but seem to think they have won some kind of victory. You and I have quite different recollections of the incident and it's outcome. 80%?
