If you liked the book, pick up a book called "Armor" by Steakley. I find Joe Haldeman's "Forever War" a good read of similar genre to Starship Troopers.. Love Armor and the Forever War. Halide an also wrote a sequel Forever Free I'm not sure I agree on Forever War. It's a great work of science fiction, sure, but is ultimately a very anti-war and anti-military book. we are talking about children's fiction, right? You're thinking of the Neverending Story

Quoted: ST should be mandatory reading on the trip to basic training. Forgetting all the sci-fi in the book, there are plenty of lessons on leadership that still apply today in it. Wish I would have read it as a junior enlisted troop. Certainly would have helped give me some perspective that otherwise took years for me to gain. It's on the Commandant's reading list. |

Great book. The movie would have been a fun campy B movie if it had been named anything else. Since it was named Starship Troopers, I hated it. Exactly how I felt about it... but today I can watch it and enjoy the B aspects. I have higher hopes for the reboot that's coming out which is supposedly closer to the books. |
