Here's an old school pic for you guys, former snipers 2-14 Infantry circa 2004, Baghdad.
Guy on the left was KIA 1/29/05, guy on the right is still in but now is an apache pilot and set to deploy again very soon. He is a stud and has been one of those "been there, done that" type of soldiers. I don't have the dates but he was in Bat for many years as well prior to becoming a pilot.

Burials (more specifically, being inturned) at Arlington take a while. |

ETA: It appears he was cremated after his return to the US and his family have his ashes entombed there. What an incredible Marine and Soldier, the more I read about him. "...that such men lived." |

The greater the warrior, the more elaborate the burial. They buried fucking boats, horses and weapons, sometimes on fire, for the true bad asses. To die in battle was the only way to go to Valhalla to await the final apocalyptic battle to fight alongside the gods. They knew they would be screwed out of Valhalla if they died of natural causes, or through an accident. This man was a Viking of a man and kept fighting until he finally fell. So maybe they had to gather all his stuff for him to take to Valhalla. R.I.P. Sir.

From what I can find on him it looks like he retired from the .mil in '05 and was working for the CIA when he was KIA.
