[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Slovak SBRs anybody? Grand Power STRIBOG pistol to be imported to US UPDATE 18APR19 (Page 9 of 23)

Wanna see something neat? Jaro just asked my opinion on this for .mil and .eu customers. Select fire, of course. The Stribog K (Name may change): https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/1232/Stribog_K-594348.jpg Dimensions in millimeters, of course. |
| This is a tempting firearm. I like the design, just not wanting to add another proprietary magazine to the mix. Shame it couldn't have used colt ar mags or something else that is commonly in use. I'd end up wanting atleast 10 mags for it. Maybe more and will end up spending 400 in just mags. I have too many totes of mags as it is. |
| I really like how this gun looks, and how it's built and designed. But are there any REAL accuracy assessments for these guns? I'm talking bench rest, not blasting offhand at 25 yards. I've been looking and I haven't found anyone posting reviews that include actual bench rest shooting. Is everybody afraid of getting sued these days? I mean, I'm looking for something with Suomi-31 grade accuracy, but all the ppc carbine reviewers these days seem to avoid bench rests like the plague. I don't want "better than handgun accuracy", well duh, it better be with a fixed barrel and a brace on it. It should be getting BETTER than 4moa (with good ammo) or i'm not interested AT ALL. That goes for not just the Stribog, but any of these PPCS on the market, the Ruger pc9 is the only new one I've seen with legit accuracy reviews, but it's way too front heavy and I don't care for the quick detach barrel thing. I was looking at the extar also, but nobody is posting real accuracy reviews on it either. |

Could someone please give me the OAL with the factory carbine stock? I need the OAL to be 26” to F1 it in Illinois. Thanks! It shouldn't matter one iota, but idiotic laws can still put an innocent man in prison. |
| On the fence about picking one up soon. Pretty ugly solution to the brace adapter - really hope something with picatinny (would have to measure, but the MPX telescoping brace would be SICK on this gun) or a folding option could be released as that would be ideal. As far as I can tell, the factory folding stock isn't available in the US anywhere if I want to SBR it. Huge bummer. Magazines seem pretty scarce too. |

Here's a link to a FB vid Jaro just uploaded of him testing the AP9A3S "Shorty" prototype (Sorry, no YouTube vid):

Just replying to keep this fellah alive.
Some of us are waiting in the background for possible Gen 2 with improvements. Non-recip. CH is a must Alloy lower would be cool. AR grip compatibility might be cool for sales, but we also don't want this gun to lose its own flavor. A brace that doesn't look like ass is a must. Anything that isn't an AR tube and adapter is a good start. |

Quoted: I'm in agreement with all of this. Not too worried about the AR grip comparability, but the CH, alloy lower, and a decent rear attachment/stock would be nice. I think the MP5/B&T style would be great or some of the Lage products. |

If their new version accepts Glock mags, STRIBOG will sell more then GP could produce. It's the AR Mag of the 9mm world. That would make the gun truly a 'Scorpion Killer.' Worth noting that B&T is developing a Glock mag lower... https://www.omahaoutdoors.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/brugger-and-thomet-glock.jpg |

I hope the importer is bringing the A3 and not worried about Glock magazines. |

Jaro advises that bringing in the non-reciprocating version is up to the importer. And he has now come up with an ambi charging handle : https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/1232/39221302_10204300942920153_1362712283146354688_o-648030.jpg Oh, and the Stribog looks like my cup of tea, and that is bad for my wallet. Tell your friend that he is bad and should feel bad for that reason.

Quoted: I know you are buddies with the owner/designer but how is distribution in the US? Eagle imports seems to be the (?) only importer in the US at this point. I am interested in a 10mm pistol (PA40) but I am a bit gun shy due to never working with Eagle before (parts, mags, etc). Oh, and the Stribog looks like my cup of tea, and that is bad for my wallet. I haven't been to the US except for a physical in 15 years. Hard for me to say what Eagle Imports is doing. So far, so good. Much better than his former relationships with Century or STI. Well, we will keep the lights on for you! I will see what my local dealer can do with Eagle. |

Jaro does want feedback, but I believe he doesn't want to support his main competitor, Glock. The 2 position feed is more reliable in a sub gun. This is just a semi-only version of the select fire Stribog. The Glock mag is the closest 9x19 magazine to the ubiquity of the M4/AR magazine. There are multiple manufacturers for the mag (Glock, Korea, ETS, Magpul,) which really can't be said for other 9x19 polymer mags. B&T shows that a Glock mag can be made reliable in a subgun - a subgun thats quite similar to the STRIBOG. The biggest disadvantage to Grand Power pistols is their proprietary, expensive magazines. Just look at these prices: https://gunmagwarehouse.com/brands/grand-power If their pistols took their 'main competitors' CZ75 mags, which can be had for $16, they would have sold a lot more GP pistols in the US. The high magazine cost and poor availability has been whats kept me from buying a GP pistol, despite the positive reviews. Circling back to the STRIBOG, if there's ever an Assault Weapons Ban or Magazine Import Ban, having rare, proprietary magazines is a huge disadvantage. Taking Glock mags greatly mitigates this risk. It also allows GP to own a huge segment of the PCC market, as there is currently no PCC with a folding stock that takes Glock mags. There is no single feature he could possibly add to the STRIBOG that would make it sell more in the US market then having it take Glock mags. It's as close to "free money" as it gets. |

He's read the thread, and I've told him what you guys are saying. It's his baby, and in his court. Trying to get it in as-is was a huge pain in the ass with the ATF. Honestly, that's why I've pushed so hard for the Glock mags - it's "one easy trick" to make him millions of dollars more in sales. To leave all that extra money on the table...would be sad. To further put things in perspective, here's the ATF's latest import data from 2018. 1.2 Million Pistols imported into the USA from Austria 2,200 pistols imported from the Slovak Republic: https://www.atf.gov/resource-center/docs/undefined/firearmscommercestatisticalupdate20185087-24-18pdf/download Taking Glock mags is not "helping a competitor" - instead, it's allowing GP to profit from the popularity of a much larger brand. |

Hey @kpel308, I just ordered one of these from PSA. Any idea on when we might expect a FOLDING brace adapter? I searched and couldn't find one.
Also, with having only read your first post, will this accept drop in AR triggers? I have a CMC 2.5 pound trigger needing a home.
|
| I just got off a text conversation with Jaro. He says he agrees the Glock mag version is a great idea, and is in the development pipeline. Unfortunately, it will take about a year to bring to market. The stick mag is here to stay, though, as he has a lot of military and law enforcement contracts now. He is cranking out Stribogs as fast as he can make them. |
|
Please understand one of advantages of this thing is more compact than cz scorpion, with the front heavy bolt design. please consider a folding brace with minimal folding length instead of the intrusive ar buffer tube adaptor connecting to another folding adapter. ideally, when its folded it still can be charged & eject casings |

Throwing my 2 cents in here...
1) Non-reciprocating Charging Handle is a "MUST HAVE", given the Stribog's CH close proximity to the user's support hand, and honestly, the only thing blocking my purchase of 1 or 2 of these weapons. (B&T can get away with it because their CH is much further rearward and not in close proximity to any normal hand placement) Perhaps the bolt itself could be changed to allow a non-recip CH while keeping the current chassis, saving a lot of redesign/retooling cost and effort of the current aluminum 'frame'. This would have the added benefit of offering a possible upgrade path for current owners. 2) Not a fan of the Glock mags in a weapon like this, for all the reasons given by others above. If the Stribog's proprietary mags are reasonably priced, durable and available, I'll buy a dozen or two and never have to think about mags for it again -- problem solved with NO engineering changes needed. Case in point: The Scorpion EVO is a leader in this segment, despite its use of proprietary mags because the CZ mags are cheap, effective and plentiful. Tell your friend to keep the more reliable current mags, and concentrate on features that will actually make the weapon better. TL;DR synopsis -- Keep the current low price point of the weapon and mags, add a non-recip CH, and you're good to go. Extra Credit work: Produce an end cap with a vertical 1913 rail section so that a variety of existing braces and stocks can be easily fitted. The addition of a standard interface like that invites and encourages aftermarket support. Top reasons the Scorpion EVO thrives are low entry price, 3rd party support and ease of accessorization. |
