[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Slovak SBRs anybody? Grand Power STRIBOG pistol to be imported to US UPDATE 18APR19 (Page 3 of 23)

What's the cost for magazines? Will it take a binary trigger? Will the A3 version ever be imported? I am assuming the A3 will do better suppressed plus non-reciprocating charging handle. It uses some AR fire control group parts, but he suggests consulting a good gunsmith. They don't do binary triggers in Slovakia. He just got this one approved this week. Please be patient. Edited to remove name of importer. |

I really like the looks of the M-lok. If the price point holds true and street price is $750 or less, I am in. As far as price point, 799 is what Jaro posted. The honcho at the importer that I spoke with earlier tonight stated their margin on GP products is less than their other lines, but they won't be "price gouging". We'll have to see what's up when it hits the street. I was told they'd keep me in the loop on other details as they become available. It is still very early in the game. I am not accepting anything in consideration for this, I am just a friend of Jaro and want to see him do well. My opinions are my own, and not that of AR15.com or its management. Edited to remove name of importer. |

I'm not blaming anyone. Just saying, "What's the point of a semi-automatic 9mm carbine?" For me, all of those examples are of zero interest to me. I had an Uzi. Sold it because I realized I would never spend that much money to turn it into a Title II gun, and I damn sure wasn't going to wait for the ATF to reverse the Hughes Amendment part of FOPA. As a semi it was.... boring. |
|
Well, that is great that we get to add another pistol-caliber-almost-carbine to the repertoire of what we already have here. My two critiques from what I can see are basic. I think a bit more length to the handguard would not only help the aesthetics, but it would provide a bit more real estate for one's support hand, and it would allow for a longer sight radius. Also, the price point. If it's hovering around 800.00, I can't see it selling much just due to the proximity of CZ's Scorpion Evo, which can be had for less, and can be had for less in FDE as well. I have not read this whole post, but do we know what mags are going to run? That may be another issue when compared against the Evo as those mags are ridiculously cheap. Regardless, thanks for sharing. Please tell your friend we appreciate his innovation and development in the firearms world. Competition is always a great thing for us. |

I want one with a geissele trigger in it. ![]() Jaro is not sure, but the weapon does use a lot of standard AR fire control group parts, save for the selector. I don't know whether a standard selector can be installed, and Jaro, as stated previously, recommends a competent gunsmith for any modifications. He has not tried it with a Geissele trigger. It would be great if it fits and functions, as I am a big fan of Bill Geissele's work. Even if I can't own any.

I'll buy one and guinea pig the shit out of it. AR triggers, etc. The most important question.... is the registered portion the upper or lower? Please say upper.... Because my mind is considering some fun things.. Edited to remove name of importer. |

I've been telling him about MLok since it came out. He's the CEO, so... I gave him the link to this thread, so hopefully he'll make an appearance. He really is a busy guy, though.ETA: The mags are proprietary, but he says some folks have made adaptors to use UZI mags, but then you lose the bolt hold open. BHO is standard with his mags, which are made from polycarbonate. The Uzi lacks a bolt hold open, anyways.

Has existing mag compatibilty or proprietary mags? MLok>Keymod |
|
Quoted: the lower is the serialized part. And it means if he decided to create a .40/.357 SIG version...he could come up with a different upper if it's necessary, beefed up in certain areas, etc. Or maybe the 7.5 FK BRNO cartridge, maybe?
And maybe an SD upper... |
|
Quoted: Yeah I dont get his either, why are all these compaines releasing new firearms as keymod when nobody really wants it anymore? Doesnt mlok outsell it like 4 to 1 or something like that? That would be one of the first priorities if I were making a firearm tbh lol...."MLOK ONLY" The Stribog will be shipping to the US with M-Lok. Because of this thread, Jaro asked for and received ATF approval for the change.
ETA: Also, it does have easy pistol brace compatibility, as it will be able to accept any AR15 stock/brace with the adaptor plate, available separately and shown elsewhere in the thread. |

@Tim_McBride : UPDATE: The guy from Eagle Imports sent me an IM last night (Saudi time) that the UPPER will be the serialized part, per the ATF approval letter. Jaro wasn't sure, as the ATF wanted the number EVERYWHERE on the bloody thing. Need to ask some friends for some mill time once I get one.. |
OK, now, for the folks asking about the A2 and A3 versions, this is from a representative of Grand Power North America in Canada ( @Striker ):
This may be confusing so please listen closely. BATFE must approve all Imports, the process can take a full year. The model approved for import to the US at the moment will be marked, marketed, and sold to the US market only as an A1. However, when you look you will notice that it is the polymer lower A2 version. For the rest of the world, this is the A2 version. (Much as Tanfoglio Stock 9mm pistols are different in the US than the rest of the world) The A3 version as far as I know has yet to be discussed with BATFE. My opinion is there is a good chance BATFE will accept the A3 as nearly a cosmetic difference and approve it quickly but there is an equal or greater chance that they will require a sample which means a year’s wait on that model.

I'm excited for the release, as Grand Power makes cool stuff.
However, I think the magazines will make or break the STRIBOG. The current GP pistols, magazines are between $44-$70. That doesn't mean the STRIBOG mags will be that much, but if they are, I don't see it beating the Scorpion, which has the same MSRP and $20 mags (to say nothing of a catchier name.) If this thing took Glock mags it would be a game changer though. Other then the MPA 930 there is no off the shelf PCC with a folding stock that takes Glock mags. If it took Glock mags, I could see the STRIBOG giving the Scorpion a serious run for its money, as well as cutting into the "AR9" market. It's basically "one simple trick" for dramatically boosting sales. We can see this in the enthusiasm for the pending Ruger PCC, which is getting a lot of favorable attention. The chief differentiator between the PCC and the failed Ruger PC is that the new PCC takes Glock mags. |

I believe it's a two-position feed magazine. The prototype I saw was. People are modifying Uzi-compatible magazines, but are losing the Stribog magazine's last round bolt hold open functionality. I really think that would be a huge boost for sales vs the proprietary mags/modified UZI mags. |
|
Quoted: Any chance you can pitch your friend on making a Glock compatible model - possibly a Glock lower if indeed the upper is the serialized part? I really think that would be a huge boost for sales vs the proprietary mags/modified UZI mags. |
|
Quoted: Glock is double stack, single feed. If the gun is double stack, double feed; depending on how the bolt is designed it would require modification to the bolt and possibly ejector to make a Glock Mag lower. If the lower is not serialized, nor is the bolt, then those could be offered as either a conversion kit, or retrofitted by Eagle imports here in the US until they get ATF approval for the upgraded GBOG. |

This. They're fine for pistols but the infatuation with them in PCCs is just strange. What's nice about 5.56 rifles is that no matter the manufacturer, they generally take the same standard AR mag. Ditto Picatinny rails, USB ports, on and on. Standardization makes things more convenient and generally better. Glock mags are the closest thing out there to a "standard" for 9x19 polymer mags comparable to the AR magazine. They also are now open source, with multiple manufacturers making them, and come in a variety of sizes. And they also work in handguns, allowing the PCC to share mags. There's no other 9x19 polymer mag out there that would be as suitable for standardization. Having 5 different PCC's that take 5 different mags x 10-20 mags for each is tedious to say the least. Hence the desire for PCC manufacturers to begin standardizing around the Glock mag. |
