Semi auto in the nightstand, 12ga 8-shot cruiser under the bed, chambers empty. I have small girls but they will not have enough strength to operate any of those guns for a long time.

just me and heather here.
we sleep with our bedroom door locked so its just one more noise maker if they decide to come in. i got my HK and AK beside my bed on my side and she has her P22 on her side. the HK is cocked and locked. P22 is loaded but on safety. AK is not chambered but hopefully me pulling back the handle and letting it go will deter anyone just like racking the slide on a shotgun. |

When I was a single man this is what I did;
I kept a loaded AR15 in the closet which was right next to the bed I slept in. By loaded I always mean full magazine inserted, round chambered with selector on fire. Ready to go. It was sting on a small table i the closet, muzzle facing away from me towards the closet wall pointing downward at around a 25 degree angle, buttstock out and ready to grab. It was damn near perfect. In the corner of my bed, I kept a loaded P7 M13. Squeeze cocker was great, no squeeze=no fire so it was good to go chambered. It would rest between the bed and the wall, unholstered, and there was a pipe on the wall that ran along side the bed which held it in place. That kept it from falling down to the floor and under the bed during those times my girlfriend and I were getting intimate. Today, married with children, a small apartment in a Nazi-esque town I keep them hidden, in a locked case, unloaded with trigger locks. It would take me a few minutes to get one out, but I have a nice baseball bat and other objects very handy if needed. Besides, I sleep on the floor with my feet almost touching the front door(small apt) so an intruder would literally have to step on me to get to my family. |
when single, most of the time a loaded pistol was on top shelf in safe in bedroom. If anything made me itchy, I would sleep with it loaded and cocked/locked (if approprite - also had a double action) under pillow.
sometimes just slept with a winchester under the sheet next to me. after house was broke into (first of 2 in 3 weeks), all guns except for 1911 went to safer storage - rarely was the 1911 far out of reach. Did my best to conform with carry laws, while keeping guns and myself safe in a house I was certain was going to be robbed a second time thief found gun safe first time, broke off screwdriver trying to get into it. Monday after, guns went to brothers safe, filled my with a bag of quickcreat - thought it would be funny for the thief to steal the whole safe only to find an 80 block of cement in the bottom. need a bed safe now |
I have my beretta bobcat between the matress and boxspring. The sig make too big of a lump.
The bobcat will allow me enough time to get to the sig and the 870 with 00 which are about 3ft away ready to go. I'll probably goto the nightstand drawer way after I move next month, and get a nightstand, other than a large tupperware container. |
1911 cocked and locked in the nightstand with spare mag. That should be enough to get me to my safe
In my dresser a few feet from my bed, with a loaded magazine most of the way in. I'm probably being paraniod, but I don't like the idea of having a gun with a loaded magazine. It's easy enough to press it in the last centimeter.

Currently keep a 6-inch Mossy Oak hunting knife in the sheath under my pillow and a 4-inch Cheetah beater speed-folding knife on the ledge of my box springs (mattress is six inches narrower than boxsprings, creating a ledge where I keep my book, glasses, and the knife at night). Both are within easy reach.
At home there's two katanas, a long sword, a cavalry saber, two machetes, a sword cane, straight-edged wakizashi and tanto, and a Louiseville Slugger between my headboard and the wall. At the foot of my bed is the gun safe, where all but two handguns reside. Both pistols are in a drawer in my parents bedroom for quick access. Once I have a handgun, I'll hang the holster on the headboard at night to provide quick access. |
I've been leaving it on my desk lately, which is pretty close to my bed.
Pistol in the nightstand, shotgun in the bedroom closet. Closet guns stay in the closet fool!!!
Between my matress and bed frame at the head of my bed, always loaded
5 shot 38 and a surefire in top high dresser 12G coach gun behind dresser

Quoted:
Oh, and this being AZ, I have a 4 D-cell Maglite quote] Dude get a Surefire |
I am married with an 11 month old. What do you other guys with kids do? Right now I lock everything up in my gunsafe which is NOT in my bedroom, so I don't have quick access. I need to come up with something better that is still secure.

Or Open the Window... |

If he was 15 feet tall... and those windows haven't been opened in about 50 years, so good luck. Getting any ideas? |

I keep my glock 23 on the desk, I have my mossberg 500A loaded with 5 rounds of high brass birdshot on the el-rednecko gun rack and about 4 or 5 other firearms strewn randomly about the room.

I thought that was what computer porn was for. CW |

Under the pillow a g19 or inbetween the night stand in bed, or in my hand if I hear strange noises before lying down.
Got a couple of those too. I won't bring up why I brought up the Maglite. The AZ/NM forum knows, its just a very bad joke. |

Guns everywhere..........it might be a race to see who gets one first. Nothing near the entrance to my apartment...but weverywhere else it looks like army surplus. Last nigt I looked around my computer desk.......5 knives or bayonets, one katana, one AK loaded, one ach-9 loaded with 30 rounds.......behind me just out reach 10/22, unloaded, still working on it.
living room another 10/22 unloaded working on it. Kitchen closet Ar loaded with 10, fal unloaded, ak unloaded, in the car .45, 9 mm, .22. Usually everything is hot EXCEPT for anything in the living room. That is work and cleaning area, so everything is always cold. Knives and flashlights everywhere.... |
Married w/kids. My Stevens 311 SxS 12 ga sits unloaded in the corner 18 inches from the bed. No 4 buck is in the nightstand. It takes me about 5 seconds to load it and cover the door and another 3 seconds to cover the stairwell. Bad guy has to get through the perimeter fence, deadbolts, alarm system and 2 dogs first though.

I put a cheesy behind-the-back style holster onto the back of my night stand with a couple of wood screws. Keeps the G23 handy but out of sight.
a loaded .357 revolver in the nightstand, also two speedloaders. Mossberg 500 inside the closet door loaded with 00, 000, and slugs. AR15 in the back of the closet with 2 loaded mags on shelf above it. 2D Maglight under the bed next to nightstand.
I don't have any guns. Every night though I take my hand grenade, clench it in my fist, pull the pin and go to bed. When I wake up the next morning I put the pin back in and leave it in my night stand. Nobody disturbs a sleeping man with a live grenade in his hand.
XD-9 loaded (YES LOADED!) on the nightstand, surefire and cell right next to it. Depending on the night and my mood I might break out the 1300 Defender and a box of buckshot.
Married, no kids.
Under the bed, on the bathroom counter, beside the computer. . .you get the point. Heck, I have guns laying all over the goofy place. |
I keep my closet gun in the closet. We've got a 107-lb German Shepard brand Burglar Alarm. Works real good, too.
Couple/no kids and I leave Surefire and handgun on nightstand in holster.
Sig 229 on my nightstand. I do have a handgun safe on order, though. I'll be installing that mounted to the frame of my bed.
Married, no kids...Smith .38 loaded in nightstand, Mossberg 500 with 8 in the tube, ready for the pump "git the f**k out my house!", warning in the closet.
Do you practice that stance? Awesome. Mild Bill |
Single guy--I have the revolver loaded and just laid on the floor under the head-end of the bed. The bed has no headboard so I can reach it pretty easily, but you can't see that it's there otherwise. And I keep a 2-D cell maglite on the nightstand too (revolver+maglite=old school, I guess).
So where do you keep the Garand? |
Single guy and no kids. Keep Glock 19 under my bed with one in the chamber and an extra magazine.
Prior to marriage I kept it under my pillow--several years in a national guard MP unit with a lot of Detroit Police and inner ring city cops had convinced me that the gat can never be too close.
After marriage I keep it in the drawer in my bedside table. |
Two Nightstands one on both sides of the bed. One contains a Sig SaurP226, a 3c Maglite, and 4 mags loaded one in gun one bullet chambered. The other one contains pretty much identical equipment with the exception of P226 it contains a Beretta 92fs, and a Mossberg 590 under the bed.
12GA under the bed AR in the closet pistols scattered in certain "strategic" positions around the house |
I like everything in my house to have a ring to it.
I keep shotties by the shitters, Kalashnikovs near the computer, Colts in the Kitchen, ect. But on the night stand I keep a cocked and locked 1911, and a set of NVGs. |
I wear a Drop Leg Tactical Holster w/Glock 35 to bed... and that's all.
