Tailgating the elderly.
Watching people fall down. Asking people what time it is, when they have a cup of coffee in their hand. Using lawn mowers for tasks which I can only say are "other than their intended purpose." I have many others, but I don't want to soil my reputation as Mr. Nice Guy here. |
|
Sitting here reading threads late at night, drinking a beer, with my newest acquition in the oven baking out the cosmoline and that wonderful smell that means I'm doing one of my favorite things. Wish I was right now.
Watching band of brothers with my Garand, K98, and .45 sitting nearby. Waiting late at night for a blizzard to roll in while reading my favorite forums and talking about it. |
|
The middle of a weekday after a very very heavy snow that has shut down this busy ass city and makes everthing stop....and for once...right in the middle of what we in the world call "progress", all you can hear is snow falling.

Throwing rocks at hornet nests.
Ringing doorbells and running away. Poking dead things with sticks. |
|
Standing at the grill cooking anything with a cold beer in my hand.
Dinner with all the family eating the above grilled meat of choice. Watching the sunset on the front porch with my wife (and my dog) and a glass of good red wine. An empty highway on-ramp and red-line shifts through the first 3 gears in my little german car. I'm going to miss that when I sell it..... A few hours at the range alone with my 1911 and shorty Bushmaster. Going to the range with my sons, watching them shoot well (better than I some days). Any free time spent near the water. |

watching a lotus finally bloom in the koi pond
wondering what the hell people think when I post, "That's it. I'm gonna lock this one now". that first shot from a green fairway in the spring a golf trip with 3 good friends, the laughs, the lies sleepily snuggling back into a cool bed at 6A - knowing many are grudgingly getting up.... |

+1 There is nothing that puts the rest of the world into perspective like the peace of a sleeping child. |

shootemup - enjoy that time. I've spent the last two nights with my dad. The moments are now precious and numbered. He's in a hospice. Hug your dad now while he can still comprehend your love.

You just brough back a lot of memories.... THANKS!!!! |

Thanks to kidney stone attacks recently, I know what you're talking about. But for me, just one oxycodone is quite sufficient to make me feel like I'm covered in a soft but untouchable blanket. It sort of insulates you from the world and makes you feel a bit warm, and also, rather dizzy for a while. And you THINK you can sleep well like that, but I've found that THAT doesn't happen so easily. I don't think I'm in danger of being addicted. It's not that pleasurable a feeling. I like to feel more in control. CJ |

A large stick of kelbasa grilled until the outside is almost burnt.
A good cigar after the kelbasa A good cup of tea on Sunday morning. Hooker and blow. |

To funny. I told my girlfriend about a bunch of us saying "the smell of a womans hair". She gave me a WTF look pulled her hair in front of her face and smelled it. I just said "women don't get it".
Too cute. |

Coming home, after a day working in the filthy and noisy city, and once the engine is shut off all I can hear is birds (crickets after dark).
The first rays of sun at the crack of dawn, in the deer stand. Dumping a few mags full-auto. Visiting my dad, and shooting with him, my brother, and my nephew. A long cold drink of water after yard work in the heat of the day. The total silence after a big snow storm. My dog's cold nose waking me up on weekends to tell me he needs to go outside. The smell of racing gas and burning rubber, and the roar of a well built big block V8 with open headers. Beer. |
|
Watching the Sun come up and the woods come to life while deer hunting
walking in the woods with my Lab, Dutch spending time with my wife Fishing..'nuff said |
|
The smell of my wife's hair (she will actually wear it in a bun all day to keep the smell for me.. what a woman)
Seeing my children smile in their sleep. Watching a deer feed. Feeling the bump of a bass bite. A first gear power wheelie on my FZ1 motorcycle. The first shot at the first dove on the opening day of the season. The smell of a horse sweating, mixed with the leather of the saddle and the smell of the oats on its breath. My kids saying, "I love you." Thanks for the thread. Evokes great memories.... |
|
1) Waking up.
2) Waking up next to my wife. 3) A nice long motorcycle ride (without having to dodge traffic). 4) A nice day without turmoil. |

~When I beat Metal Gear Solid "snake eater" ~Going mudding with my buddy in his Jeep ~Driving my Escort GT out of the building after doing a tranny swap, clutch, brakes, and other stuff. This car sat for 2 months due to my situation...the day I finished the job and drove it out was the best day of my life. I will never forget that feeling. |

Unexpected comments that give me a quick chuckle. ETA: The little pause in a friendly debate between my dad and I when Laurie Dhue pops up on Fox News. |

BBQ ribs with good potato salad. A tall glass of Jack Daniels with just anough coke in it to change the color with the few ice cubes half way melted, with the ole lady walking around with a thin Tank Top with no bra on, drinking a Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer watching the Georgia Bulldogs play football ... WarDawg........ Thats was yesterday...

The sound of crickets late at night when I'm in the field under the stars with my telescope The smell of BreakFree CLP mixed with fallen leaves on a cool fall morning The smell of gunpowder My GF's laugh Listening to a cat purr Wind blowing through the trees Seeing a good dog on point And I absolutely agree about the smell of a woman's hair... wow |
|
Being in the deer stand before the sun comes up and watching it rise over the trees into a huge field and the frost on the ground glistens like little diamonds.
Floating around that private fishing hole with your best friends and a cooler full of beverages A good burn out on a friday night When your significant other gives you that smile that only you get Laying on a huge flat rock on a blanket next to the river with that special someone and a bottle of homemade wine The smell of CLP and Gunpowder burning in my AR Bump firing a drum out of the AK with no stops and all your friends hangin around with steaks on the grill and beer in the cooler |

A fun evening out with an attractive lady and then her inviting you over for lunch the next day... Makes you happy.
Alright. Now i gotta go study. |

I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
Somebody had to say it. |

The first taste of a perfectly cooked steak, where you can close your eyes and ignore the rest of the world for a minute.
The first taste of a rootbeer in a mug that's so cold it's starting to ice. Hearing all "2 alpha's" and being surprised because you had a really good time to boot. The feel of my bike on a good road, just begging for a little more twist of the wrist. Scaring women, children and old people with that same bike. Realizing that you just ran out of stuff to do on your "endless" to do list. Having someone tell you this outrageous "friend of a friend story" and realizing that YOU were that friend of a friend, the story is about something that actually happened to you, and this schmuck in front of you has no clue.. |

Driving home late on Tuesdays and Thursdays, right as the sun sets over the prairie, and turns the sky and all the standing wetland water into fire.

When you have tons of shit to do but decide to do nothing but drink beer and play with your dogs.
When you have tons of shit to do at work and call in sick. When you have tons of guns to clean and decide to clean them. When you don't have anything to do and don't want to do anything either. |

Wow, when I started this thread I didn't think it would go 4 whole pages. Nice to see that there is a "softer" side to Arfcom. Here's some more:
Corn on the cob Steak Motorcycle drag-racing And in the immortal words of Tom T. Hall "The Storyteller": old dogs, children and watermelon wine MJD |

Sitting on the back porch playing the guitar at dawn.
Boarding a plane to go home. Seeing pure innocence in a small child's eyes. The sincere smile of a stranger passing by. A loooong hot shower. Smoking a cigarette while taking a dump in an empty house. (One of the first things I wanted to do when I got back after my first deployment to Iraq.) Helping someone in need without anyone knowing you did it. -Smalls |

Dude, now that is just messed up. But, whatever floats your boat. MJD |

the golden hour as the sun comes up on the flats, birds start calling, and my topwater lure clicks back and forth, anticipating the toilet flush and pull of a big speckled trout or redfish

Sunsets and Sun ups
Walking up the steps to the house after work and the wife opens the door before I get my key in the lock. To be out on the back deck sitting in the chair I built, a tumbler of Crown Royal, a tasty smoke while the sun sets over the marsh. Wwhhhonk,Wwhhhonk,Wwhhhonk,Wwhhhonk,Wwhhhonk as the geese come in for the night. |

when a lawn mower starts on the first pull after sitting for months. then you kinda stand back and think "not so tough now, are ya?"
