I was expecting it to be around $1100 - $1200 but for that price how can I say no?

I contacted Ruger customer service the day they were announced for sale, and they said absolutely not, there are no plans to develop a left-handed model.

Now I have to decide whether I want to gimp myself with a righty model or pursue other options at higher cost

For bench and prone work, RH actions have an advantage for south paws.

There are plenty of Bench rest competitors that run custom LH actions, to work the bolt with their support hand.
It's also dadgum handy when a Dog town is hot, and you want to maintain observation while running the bolt.

Thanks for the review.

I've been wanting to play in F/TR for a while. Been shooting 600yd in the High Power game and the range hosts F Class matches also. However the entry price to F Class was simply too steep. With the RPR and a $1000ish scope the price barrier is broken. Very likely going .308 to stay within the F/TR rules. Don't want to go against the guys in F Open with rifles that cost more than my last car.

I'm probably the exact market that Ruger is targeting.

I want one of these. Have a bolt action Savage I love, but it's dated. Been looking at something threaded for a suppressor and able to take mags, and..this looks like the ticket. Think i'll go 6.5. New caliber to me, but heard a lot of good things.

Even a Mosin Nagant can shoot pretty good with a good barrel, ammo, and stock.

I have always had good luck with centerfire Ruger rifles. For example I have a boat paddle M77 MKII that rides in the siltly mess in the bottom of my airboat that tosses 06 bullets anywhere I desire. That is a tough rifle.

It is a Ruger American action made into a Tube gun. At that point, it stops being your typical, traditional hunting rifle and starts to be something groundbreaking at its price.

sorry if this is an ignorant question....

but are you mounting the optics like a traditional bolt gun or like an AR?

it looks like you could mount like a bolt gun (low enough while still getting bell clearance) but knowing that the furniture (and by that i mean the stock) is AR furniture....do you mount similar to an AR? (1.5in optical center)

i cannot tell if that is a one piece mount or not in your photo....

So, which load will you develop further?

41.5 or 42.4?  I'll probably load some of both. Any pressure sign in your rifle?

Hmmm, sort of want one in .308 with a 20" tube.  How difficult is it to swap out barrels?  Does it take AICS style mags?

eta: Just saw where you can remove them with a standard AR barrel wrench...does this mean they will accept standard .308 AR barrels?

Not at all. It just means the barrel threads are the same as an AR-15 upper receiver, though.

Which is 1.250"-18 tpi.

I bet those barrel threads are 1.00-16. I wonder about that shoulder, though. Looks like the nut for the Samson rail seats on it.

I'm interested, but what is the purpose of the folding stock on a precision rifle - just wondering....
IMO, a folding stock over time can only do one thing - get loose.

I kind of wish they would offer it with a fixed stock.

Probably. Might be a market for something to tighten it...

But, I would be it loosens from opening and closing, so if you leave it alone, it would probably stay tight. Probably.

Could just tap a hole through it and bolt it open.

I believe that the "folding" stock is also the means by which you get the stock out of the way of the rear of the receiver so the bolt can be removed.  Straight line bolt actions are gonna need a way to do that, this way adds a feature.

Need to fold to remove the bolt.

It's inline like an AR. Bolt slides into stock when cycling.

Seems like the review in the American Rifleman article indicated that you could use the fixed after market stocks that are compatible with the AR. Lots of choices to fit your needs. This is just another example of how personalized you can make this rifle. I think the engineers and designers really thought this out. I don't even own one yet and I just purchased the Griffin Armament Sportsman can for the .308 model. By the time my stamp gets approved, I hope the big box stores will have these in stock for a good price ( not that the current is bad).

I am waiting for the demand to get somewhat satisfied before my purchase.

I just picked up an unfired Savage 110FP in .308 for a song. I was just about to get a manners stock for it. By the time I add the stock and scope mount to purchase price of this gun, I'm at the same money as the RPR. The Savage is going up for sale.

Looks like the perfect rifle.

Easily customizable with the ability to use accessories from America's favorite gun the AR15.

Barrel changes can be done with nothing more than the barrel nut tool on the current AR15.

Multiple magazine options.

Now if only Ruger would offer a larger version for 300 Win Mag or 7mm Mag.

I'm building a 7mm Mag on a Savage action now. If Ruger had this in a 7mm Mag I'd dump the Savage and get it.

I already have a 7mm08 Aero M5 I just built that shoots 1/2 MOA, so I've got the 308 based cartridge covered. I really want something in a magnum round, and I have a soft spot for 7mm.
