Got to thinking about this given it’s a cool pattern yet samples are few and far between, in spite of the demand. One of my coworkers is from SA (he’s also white) and I’d mentioned if he was familiar with the pattern. Told me he wants nothing to do with it because of what it reminded him of - Apartheid & so forth. Been doing additional reading on the topic and apparently white suprematism likes the Rhodesian flag - easy to display to express white power, but stealthy since most folks don’t really pick up on it like they would something more obvious, such as a swastika or Aryan Nations flag. And yes, I’m late to the dance as I discovered the church shooter a few years ago had a flag on his jacket. Thoughts about wearing the pattern in public? |

Just to recap: You suspect the pattern has a racist origin. You confirm your suspicion with a co-worker from SA. You own research tells you that white supremacist tend to wear it. Wear what you want, just understand that at some point you might catch some flack or be associated with a group you didn't mean to be associated with. |

I wouldn’t have an issue with a camo pattern. A flag, I can understand. That represents a particular regime, what they stood for. Would people have issues with using a PLA pattern? Or a Soviet pattern from one of the ComBloc countries? A WWII pattern? Attached File |

If it is just camo then no prob. If it is mimicking Zimbabwe uniform, well, weird I guess but no prob. If Rhodesian and wearing one of the "Make Zimbabwe Rhodesia Again" patches, well, you could be in for some social issues. Short shorts and FN-FAL with baby poo paint job required though. |

I remember camping and hiking shorts where the ads/catalogs mentioned 2" or 3" hemmed length/inseam and "Bermuda" shorts were more "formal" and were still a couple of inches above the kneecap. |

I know a lot of zoomers into the Rhodesia meme. Maybe some are "white supremacists" but most are just in it because it triggers lefties, Rhodesia is a classic underdog story, and they slotted commies. Most of the stuff I have ever seen posted on Rhodesia that has any traction, and is related to race, is that western nations placing embargoes and not helping because "muh racism" was dumb. That it furthered the goals of the soviet union in the African continent, and that the destruction of such a prosperous nation for the region was detrimental to Africa and anyone living there. I have seen very few things posted about it that were like "yay white supremacy" and had anything to do with Rhodesia directly. Most were just white supremacists who just happened to like Rhodesia. If they are pro Rhodesia and white supremacists, they are retarded IMO (for reasons aside from their identity politics BS). Plenty of blacks served in their counter terrorism forces. And the harm done in that nation by the commies was done to blacks, much more than whites. My feel is that the "Rhodesia is a white supremacist dog-whistle" crap is the same as "the OK hand symbol is a white supremacist dog-whistle" crap. Or that Pepe is a white supremacist dog whistle, or Harambe, or literally any meme for that matter. |
