Don't waste your time. The Christian "mandate" is to propagate their belief system, whether or not they happen to live in a country full of different backgrounds. Christianity, by nature, is fueled by this imperative to force itself on to anyone who is "misguided" enough to doubt it.

Personally, I would much rather they silently just view me as another lost soul destined for the fires of hell. What do I care? It's the "join our side, or YOU are the enemy" mindset that makes them so irrational. So much for the "love thy neighbor" stuff. I guess it should be phrased "love thy neighbor, IF they think JUST like you do." Amazing, even to an atheist, that the sacred word of Jesus is so grotesquely warped without the bat of an eye by so many of his "followers". Certainly doesn't add a shred of credibility to the hysteria.

RWS-

What offends me is not the supposed *innocent discussion* of people's beliefs- it's the proselytizing, as M4 mentions above.  And if you hang it out there because you feel the need, expect to get all sorts of reactions.

Frankly, I thought the original message was very strong, and might have suggested someone who was in fact quite sure about themselves.  Based on the responses, I'm not impressed at all, and am reminded why people seek such beliefs in the first place.

Simply put, if your beliefs are so strong and so personal, why do you need to put them out there for some kind of approval?

RWS eagle, you're exactly right! Our nation was founded on Christian values, not pornography and filth. Even people who hate Christianity are enjoying the blessings that the USA has to offer. M4, the mandate you speak of is to "tell", not "force" the truth. There's a big difference. I agree, some people do get carried away, cop a holier than thou attitude, and harrass others. They need to state their beliefs and leave it  at that. However, do their mistakes diminish the Truth? Do you realize that their convictions require them to tell you about Christ out of concern for you? This is a poor analogy but if I had inside news that tomorrow LA was going to be the subject of a terrorist biological attack would I be bound by my concern for others to notify the authorities? No flames guys, I'm just trying to let you know the motivations of the other side. If you don't agree with my beliefs that's OK. We can agree to disagree and get on to the business of talking AR's!

Although new to this board, I see this devisive thread as VERY negative...

FACT- God and guns go hand in hand, RE: Constitution and the government.

FACT- This message board has previously ruled that material OTHER than AR related topics are not welcome.

OPINION- He did come across as a whiney liberal in the beginning of ths thread BUT, if any matter other than AR related topics are not welcome, his end position is accurate... religious topics should be minimized.

'It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.'

As a dyed-in-the-wool atheist I have to agree that that is what I always USED to think for many years, but a TRUE christian does not do these things, the 'claimers' who do are doing it for other reasons, 1. CASH! or 2. somehow trying unsuccessfully erase the guilt in their mind of some past deep dark secret (usually murder rape or child molestation :)) by "saving" others. I've read 10x more of the Bible than most of the christians-recruiters like that hanging out in malls, and have a better understanding of it than those types, and actually try to follow it's morals, just because I don't beleive it doesn't mean it isn't a good book! I have some friends from I think it's called a Charismatic Church, I guess they are the black sheep or 3rd party christianity, but they accept me for who I am and not try and change me, they even call me a Godless-Christian sometimes, seeing as I am down with most of it except the supernatural stuff.

Hey I'm just talkin' 'bout J.C. and he can dig it.

Oh, this topic is about religion religion. God and Jesus and all that run-of-the-mill "My God can whup your God" stuff.

Here I thought it was about the really divisive religious stuff, like:

"Colts rule; Bushmasters suck"

"The 1911 is God's idea of a pistol made manifest by his prophet, John Moses Browning; Glocks are plastic junk."

"Glocks are the bee's knees; 1911's are antiquated jam-o-matics."

"Big, slow bullets are better than small, fast ones."

"Aimed pistol fire is better than point-shooting."

"Marshall and Sanow are geniuses; Fackler don't know jack."

"The Freemasons are a Satanic cult."

"The Freemasons are just a fraternal organization."

And the most important:

"The toilet paper is supposed to loop over top."

"The toilet paper is supposed to loop out from underneath the roll."

So let's keep the important things first, shall we?

IMHO Whaaatssssaa UUUP?  Religion is a matter of choice just like your preference in firearms.

If a post has religious overtones in the title don't read it if that isn't your bag.

This is the general discussion area with post of all kinds.  The site has rules restricting what the content is pertaining to cussing and nudity.  We live with it.  If the sites owner allows religious postings it's allowed, pretty simple concept.

I don't prescribe to any particular religion even though I was raised Roman Catholic because I've yet to find a religion that encompasses all I believe in with throwing in uneeded rules or requirements.

So therefore I've started my own religion, religion according to Bootedaddy.

The main doctrine being treat people the way you want to be treated.  When people can't adhere to your beliefs then treat them the way they treat you.

In this way God nomatter what denomination or sect he adheres to will see you as a good person and will have them pearly gates swung wide open when the time comes because good is good no matter what religion you happen to belong to.

I don't think God cares if I go to church on Saturday, Sunday or any day.  Just as long as I walk the walk he's happy.  And if there isn't a God then I've lived my life in a way that I could be content with.
