is it possible that a Special Forces soldier could have received some informal flight instruction from a chopper pilot in Vietnam? that could explain how a small arms specialist could fly a gunship?

in RAMBO II and RAMBO III

he flew gun ships he flew the UH-1 Huey during the POW rescue and the Russian chopper when he went to Afghanistan to help his old buddy Col Trautman.

so he meant he actually flew gunships back in Nam

What no one tells you is that flying a helicopter is really easy. There is just one giant button that says fly and another that says land.

My dad was a huey pilot and he picked up a group of infantry soldiers after a few weeks in the field and one of the soldiers remarked on how he had the wrong job. A couple years later that soldier re-enlisted to be a helicopter pilot and told my dad he decided to do so the day he picked them up drinking coffee and not covered in mud.

Rambo cross trained on helicopter and as a paramedic..whatever that means in the .mil. That's what trautman says in the movie.

I worked with a rotorhead crew chief who was enlisted during the 80's and went to some places the US never claimed to go. This person stated that some of the senior crew chiefs were given a very basic version of the aircraft checkout, and during a couple flights with an actual pilot was allowed to take the stick for a minute.

you dream of flying in a machine, that since it rolled off the assembly line is trying to kill anyone foolish enough to go up in it?

They don't actually fly - they're so ugly the ground repels them.

Actually, they're ok. Blackhawks are a smoother ride than a huey...

MD-500's with the doors off are a lot of fun.

I was working on a Hanger and they Pilot wanted me to pull the jumpers after he got started and I told him I would if I could get a ride. I was screaming over the Radio that I could get a Nut doing that. He was like The guy had been in the Navy as a Seaman an re-enlisted so he could learn to fly.

My Son is a Paramedic and he was able to fenagle some rides out of the Sars Helo out of NAS Fallon 5 or 6 times. It had something to do with him not trusting them with his patient
He almost got to ride in the Blackhawk but Remsa wouldn't commit to an ok, so he couldn't get them to transport his patient.
