The most valuable one would have to be the mint 1900 Swiss or one of the two artillery's with matching shoulder stocks and drum mags with the 1906 commercial in 9mm a close second. The most unique would probably be the 1936 Portuguese GNR rig of which only 564 were made.

Wow. Very nice. One day I will find myself in possession of one, unless you buy them all first

Glad to hear you are keeping up with them, would be a waste for them to just sit in someones safe not to be seen for years at a time.

The 1900 Swiss should go for $5k or so, the Artillery's about $3k and $2k for the drum mags. 1906 Commercial about $4k and $3.5k on the GNR.

Surprisingly simple, even I can do it.

ETA - but I wouldn't mind one of those "Lots of pics" instructional threads on a detailed stripping.

Say I wanted to buy one, not only for its historical significance, but also as a shooter. What should I look for and how much should I be prepared to spend?

Pitiful! I only have 10, but two are single line AC44 and 45 and one byf 44 police in 99.9% condition.

Shooters are $6-900 depending on the condition of the original finish. Shooters are worth more as parts than together.

One of my grandfathers had a luger with papers ,holster , and extra mag.
I guess one of my cousins got it when he died.

So which one is your favorite?
My favorite one I would have to say is the Baby Luger I had made. A very talented smith cut the one round length out of the frame of a standard commercial model then welded it back together. The barrel was shortened to 3" and the front sight attached. Another very talented person cut the grips in two and dove tailed them back together so perfect you can barely tell it was done. Then our own Thor put as near as an original rust blued finish as DWM did.

Originally I had the idea to use them to form the numbers 12,000 but then I realized the number would be about 12 feet long! And as some have asked I had a issue with over buying them for a number of years. But when they were selling guns on Ebay Lugers were selling cheap! They don't eat anything and are a steady investment.
