and ANOTHER vote for the 1911 .45 ACP

And I will up it by yet another 1911 vote.

Glock 19.

Lightest of the 3, fewest number of parts, you can work on it yourself easy enough, small enought to be a good CCW pistol - yet large enough you can use it as a duty gun.

Did I mention this is also the one I chose (but I refused to look at the over priced SIGs).

I've been carrying my G19 every day, for my CCW, for many years.

3.5 lb. trigger, Night sights, and Winchester Ranger +P+. Sixteen rounds in gun, with two seventeen round mags as backup.

Hi Power, out of the 3

Personally, my sidearm of choice is the venerable 1911 in .45 ACP

If it fed hollowpoints, a Hi-Power.

Then probably the Sig.

It'd take me a while to get used to the grip angle and such of the Glock.

I really like the Glock and the Sig and I wouldn't turn down a High Power, but my favorite 9mm is the CZ 75. It was regarded as the best combat 9mm for years and if I ever force myself to buy a 9mm, I'll get one.

Okay, FWIW;
1) Glock 19 - It's bulletproof reliable and I like a consistant trigger.
2) SIG 228 - very hi quality handgun, modern design, BUT I'm NOT a fan of DA/SA triggers.

4) Hi Power - I hate to have to rate this gun lower than third choice, but it's a dated design (questionable w/HP loads), I don't like the ergonomics personally (I have shot HiPowers) and I REALLY hate magazine disconnect safeties (remove the mag. and all you've got is a club even if you have a perfectly good round in the chamber.)  Is the SIG of this design?  I forget.  If it is, then that really leaves only one choice for me, G19.
If you had included the CZ75B as an option, that would be my #1 9mm choice.

...........that is Ballistically Fingerprinted for the Feds.  I ain't talking about those states that require it.

Except that that's not true, you keep basing this on a project that the atf and glock talked about but never started. Glock denies that this is done and you have no proof to back up this allegation that I have seen, have you found something new to support this?

He is wrong, but this seems the only thing the Glock haters can come up with, that and the rare K Boom  that occurs every 100 years or so, and usually to a dumb ass shooting lead reloads.

Glock 26 or 17.  Avoid the Glock 19. Research NYPD & Phase 3 malfunction for details why.

Glock 19 for size AND reliability. I've put about 3000 rounds through mine since I bought it used with only a few ejecting issues which was traced to a bent ejector. Since I replaced that I've had zero problems. It was rebuilt by Glock in Smyrna before I bought it and was a police trade-in. I carry it primarily though I do carry a 1911 clone occasionally.

I own several Hi-Powers and carry a Hi-Power; but I'd probably recommend the Glock 19. I have around 7k-8k through Glock pistols and another 30k+ through Hi-Powers, so I am familiar with both pistols.

Contrary to what some have said, modern Hi-Powers feed hollowpoint ammo just fine. The Hi-Power was re-designed with a straight feedramp around 1984. I've never had a misfeed with hollowpoint ammo in several thousand rounds of JHPs with my 1995 Hi-Power.

The Hi-Power has the best ergonomics of the three and is also the slimmest and easiest to conceal. You can get 15rd flush-fitting mags and reliable 17rd mags for $20 (and this is WITH the ban in place). It has a manual safety (if you like that) and a magazine disconnect (which can be easily removed if you don't like it). It can also be had with a very crisp trigger; but unfortunately the reset distance leaves something to be desired in rapid shooting. Besides a long reset, it is also a very soft reset that is difficult to feel.

Having said that, the Glock 19 is more reliable, easier to maintain and will last longer. The trigger is practical and has a great short reset as well a positive easy-to-feel reset conducive to rapid shooting. Downside is that some people (including me) have a real hard time transitioning between Glock triggers and other guns. The Phase 3 malfunctions AR15fan mentioned are either an issue or they aren't. From what I've read, the Glock 19s that don't show the problem in several hundred rounds never do show the problem. The ones that do show the problem, I probably wouldn't trust. Never seen it personally. Aside from that, the only thing that will keep a Glock 9mm from chugging out hundreds of thousands of rounds without a stoppage is hard primers in the ammo. As a striker-fired design, it doesn't deal well with those.

Have little experience with the SIGs; but not a big fan of DA/SA or decockers anyway.

I tried to hold my comments for the uneducated, but I cannot any longer.

Psssstt.......HIPOWERS WILL RELIABLY FEED HOLLOWPOINTS.

Mine's a 1981 model made by FN in Belgium. I HAVE had it modified, but NOT the feed ramp.
Mods are: remove mag safety (YES, it improves the trigger pull immensely), extended safety lever and commander hammer.

Does anyone honestly think I'd carry this thing around with 12 hollowpoints in the mag without seeing if they feed properly? Maybe YOU would, I didn't.

I've shot 115gr Federal HydraShocks and Winchester 147gr Rangers through mine without a single problem.

Don't fall into the paradigm (gee, I got to use that word) of thinking that because a pistol's design is older than your beloved Grocks that it doesn't perform.
There has to be something about this pistol and it's design that supports it's longevity and popularity.

Out of that list I'd go with a Sig.  But Sig wouldn't be my first choice.  I'm probably in the minority, but my favorite 9mm is my Taurus PT-92.  A Beretta 92 would be fine too.  I had a Glock 19 and am glad that I don't anymore.

I have a Glock 19 I have carried daily for about 7 years. It has about 75,000 rounds through it.  It has started to experiance the NYPD Phase 3 malfunction.  Glock has no idea why the G19 has this propblem when the Glock 26 does to a much lessor extent, and the Glock 17 doesnt at all.

People more knowledgable than I have written the Glock 17 and the steel framed 1911 are the only handguns that will last a lifetime of use. and the 1911 will require a new springs every 12,000 rounds and a major rebuild every 50,000.

Most people dont shoot their handguns enough to really learn anything about long term durability and reliabilty

The SIG or the HiPower. I don't recommend the Glock because it doesn't feel right in my hand. Appears to be a solid design, though, so if it works for you...

Carried a vintage 70s BHP P35 in Central America, and switched to a P226 in 1984.  Have now carried a P226 for twenty years.

I would say the P228 (though I prefer a P226) followed closely by the P35.

No offense to Glock owners, but Glock is out of the question for me.  I have drawn so many thousands of time that when my arm is extended I automatically have proper sight alignment with the P35, the P226, and the P228.

When shooting the glock, I feel like I am landing on the deck of an aircraft carrier as my ingrained grip angle points the glock above the target and I have to can't my wrist downward for proper sight alignment.

YMMV
