How much did those run?

The first one was given to me by my father-in-law as a wedding gift.  I purchased the second one for $700.

If a GI could repair a 1911 with a screwdriver in the field, then why do 1911's need expensive tune-ups and modifications to be made reliable from gunsmiths like Bob Chow?

More than 50% of the problems people encounter with 1911 style pistols result from manufacturers of pistols and/or magazines who either do not understand the controlled feed design or who intentionally defeat the design in a misguided attempt to make the pistol feed cartridges which use bullets which yield an OAL which is too short.
People who avoid those mistakes rarely encounter problems unless the pistol is out of spec in some other way.
