I'm used to working six or seven days a week. Now I'm on strike and board. I'm planning my week as it doesn't seem like the company and union are talking. So how does this sound.
Monday - I went shooting Tuesday - Relaoding - picket in the evening Wednesday - Go shooting Thursday - cast some bullets - picket in the evening Friday - Go shooting - clean guns Saturday, Sunday - spend time with wife, maybe go shooting or reload so I have ammo for next week. I'm glad I stocked up on reloading components and ammo before the strike. Some guys are hoping this lasts until fishing season. I just took a ride by the plant to check out the parking situation and there must be 300 people picketing. We have 3600 hourly union members out on strike. The company says they are running using salary and management which must be a joke because most of them never did any type of factory work and most of the people who became supervisors haven't touched a wrench or machine in ten or twenty years. wtnh.com/Global/story.asp?S=4528822 |

Step into the real world of paying a portion of your health insurance costs..
Holy shit, a whopping 20% of health care costs? And they're striking? Talk about being out of touch! |
My crystal ball shows not so good things come out of this thread
I pay 100% of my own health care costs. What I would give to have someone pay even 20% of mine! You guys need a reality check
I'm glad you guys are striking.
Union labor is what got us health care to begin with. Union labor is who got us the 5 day work week. Union labor is who got us fair pay for fair work. Union labor is who got restraints placed on managment so we have a fair shake. Keep up the good work man. Regardless of the republican jackels here I support you and so does every other Working man. Even if he doesn't realize that he does. BTW you need to load and shoot more. Believe me the wife is happy to have you out of her hair. |
+1. Welcome to reality pal, this isn't commie utopia. |
aLongShot.
If you'd posted this at the DU (minus the guns part) you'd receive cries of support. What do you think that's going to bring you here?
Same here - 100%. I was amazed when a local government union was all pissed off because - get this - they'd have to start paying a $10 copay for office visits! And their entire health insurance fees were free for them! |
I'm with you on this. I hope the company goes under and the plant has to close. You union guys need to show them who's boss. It's better for there not to be a Sikorsky company than a company which does do what the workers want it to do. This is America, after all.

Are they limiting the amount of pickets at the site...300 out of 3600 is only 8.3%, not very high solidarity
How many management or security guys have been beaten up, shot at or had their vehicles damaged so far?
Union scum. |
So you'd be happy working for mexican wages? How about Chinese wages? Indian wages? Iraqi? Somehow I think the honest answer would be no... |
Don't you understand, man? They want their employees to pay TWENTY PERCENT of their health care costs! That's freaking outrageous! TWENTY PERCENT!!! |
+2 Viva la scabs |

From somebody that lives in the only communist state in the union I'll take that as a compliment.

And if you move on then that job has to be filled... if nobody will do it for the offered wages it still gets outsourced.
As for the 18" it's stupid that the company agreed to that. But since they did they need to live with it or renegotiate the contract. |
I wouldn't. But there are people who would, namely Mexicans, Chinese, Indians and Iraqis. They would be more than happy to do the work. And the companies would be more than happy to pay them, if the cost-benefit worked out in their favor. How does the cost-benefit work out in their favor? When it becomes cheaper to pay for shipping from overseas than it does to pay a Meth-addicted Union croney to do the same job. |
Union workers on strike for having to pay 20% health ins costs...............just a step above those on welfare and entitlements.
No what they need to do is fire every single one of commie scum and hire people who want to work. |
I hope each any every one of you get shitcanned.
Have a nice day. |
Not to mention starting pay for janitors of probably less than $30/hour. That's insane. |
just another sickening example of how the unions in this country are out of control and forcing their own jobs overseas. the sense of entitlement by union workers is simply amazing. well, if the union there or at GM gets busted, there will just be less socialist jobs in america...o well.
amazing how toyota and nissan can do it better without the unions. |
I think it's 20% increase of the copay, thats not that much money. I don't think it's 20% of all the cost of the bill. Welcome to the real world |
Yep, what they don't realize is that you have to be competitive. The skills I have, I'm very good at, so the companies that I work for want to keep me around. They offer me extra benefits or pay to do so. It's a global job market, and while that sucks, it's the world we live in. You've got to be better than everyone around you. Including malay's, mexicans, and your cousin down the street.

Define "Working" man. I work, but I don't romanticize or capitalize it, nor do I feel it necessary to pay legalized extortion for the right to "Work". Republican "jackals" are the only reason you can still own guns. We're the ones who pay our NRA dues, even if we're not paying union dues. It seems like the "right" to free health care --or is that Free Health Care?-- is more important to a "Working" man than the actual Right to Keep and Bear Arms. |
Lets see....how many 20% copays could I make if I only had all the regular wages I lost while I was out on strike?
If one goes on strike for a 50 cent an hour increase over their scale of $25.86 an hour and are out for 2 weeks they would have to work for the next 2 years just to break even. That assumes they get the whole 50 cents. With inflation....they actually loose money. Sharp as a marble. |
My favorite are the strikes that go on for months and months and the company won't budge. Then, at the last minute before the company switches to permanent replacement workers, the union heads sweap in and settle for a deal they said was crap when the strike started. All so they can keep the workers paying their dues. Wokers end up missing several months worth of pay that they'll never recoup, but the leaders are happy because their dues will keep rolling in. Sheer brilliance! |
I hope their union negotiators are the ones that the NHL players used. They ended up getting less than they were initially offered.
Probably not many if any at all. Most are all talk on the line, it's funny yet sick to watch/ listen grown men and women talk and act in ways they wouldn't even think of letting thier children act or talk. Oh the funny stories I could tell of stupid shit people do on a picket line, but I can't so I won't. Shared many a good laugh over some stupid/funny/WTF shit/moments with a fellow ARFcommer who was here for it too. |

You should be willing to work for 10 cents an hour with no benefits.
In fact, you should refund the company at least 5 cents an hour for the honor of working there. Then you should agree to the company running your life outside of work just to be safe. Management is always right. It's Americans who want to be paid who are getting jobs moved overseas. It has nothing to do with globalism and the American government selling out the American citizens with free trade and other agreements. Illegal aliens are only here to do the jobs Americans won't do for no money and no benefits. The job you do isn't worth minimum wage, yet you get paid more and are complaining. You shouldn't belong to any group that bargains collectively, thats communistic. CEO's are worth 100 million minimum a year, even when they destroy their companies while giving themselves bonuses. Unions support the democrats and offer nothing to their members. Corporations wouldn't make you work in an unsafe way to make more money. |

I wasn't going to respond, But could you please IM me the name of the Plant manager, the Directors of Quality and Engineering and perhaps any other white collar professionals there you can think of. I'm always looking for candidates for my clients that are non union and won't be outsourcing their stuff in the immediate future.
I sense sarcasm. |
The only funny part is the guy posted thinking he was gonna be cool. He thought everyone would be jealous that he was gonna screw off instead of having to work like the rest of us.
I don't think this was the response he expected. |

Yeah, looks like the Collective Bargaining Welcome Mat is definitely out... |

BINGO! Unions are at their very core, Anti-worker. |

Each and everyone of us (Drs, Lawers, architects, LEO, and all Gov Officials)
Will be outsourced in the next 25 years if nothing changes... Wake up and smell the SHIT--My Comrades |
