With a purpose. Of some sort.

I am here. I've got guard duty so I am here in the guard shack till I am relieved at 0700. Supposed to have a Corporal (a sophomore) an NCO (myself) and an Officer (tonight a LtColonel) on duty with me, sent the cpl back to his room around midnight and I've been talking with the officer who despite what I had heard is actually a pretty cool girl most of the night. I just sent her to rack out in the cot in the shack since she was falling asleep so now I am here by my lonesome kept company by my iPod and AR15.com... Gonna be a long 4 hours.. The plus side is I get a sleepthrough for formation and Army PT, I just made nice with the head of the honor comittee, and I am going home tomorow so I will wake up pack my crap jump in my buddies car and leave around 1000 and be home by 1400 and get to druel over my new M16A1 uppers that I haven't seen yet.

0605, I put up the code flags a little while ago.. its almost over.. almost back to my bed for a couple hours then up for a four hour car ride back to CT where my new M16 uppers and an attractive young lady await me... One more hour till I'm relieved and I haven't slept yet

CQ Duty can suck.
24 straight hours on.  More if your relief is late or there is a problem that keeps you around.

Guard Duty you can be relieved every so often.
Of course Guard Duty in the rain sux too.
Drying out can be a problem.

CQ in the Barracks versus Guard Duty in the rain.

I’ll take CQ.

Day off, so I slept in.
It's about 0330 here and I'm packing my bags for a week long trip to San Diego.
Paid working vacations rock!
