I wonder under what conditions he got PTSD. They keep saying he's had it for 8 years but not what caused it, like a shooting or something. I mean if I was a cop in Canton I'd probably get PTSD about 30 seconds after they pinned the little badge on my chest, but I'm not sure about this guys story really. Adams said that the incident that sparked the disease occurred in 2003 when a suspect nearly bit off Harless’ finger while trying to get the officer’s gun
![]() Why are you rolling your eyes at that? Nearly getting your finger bitten off while fighting for your life might have an impact on somebody. I don't think that's illegitimate. Wait... let me guess... you're too tough for that "PTSD crap." ETA: or are you saying he shouldn't be working if that's the case? Because I've gotta be honest... that finger-biting day is probably etched into his memory pretty deeply. I've seen people have psychological problems over less. Both. |

If this guy had PTSD, he needed to see the crisis team and get help. Every agency has them. We even have full fledged doctors working for us to assist. He fucked up, it was a pattern of behavior and no future LEA would be willing to hire him out of liability concerns. You should have gotten help way before this point. ![]() Are you trying to say that your agency doesn't have a CISM team it can use? Try explaining with your words. |

Pretty much everybody called it as a dude who didn't need to be on the street because he sucked at tactics and instead of being mad at himself for being an epic douchebag and overall shitty cop, he decided to take it out on the guy with the permit. Not good enough. There must be outrage and fingerpointing at computer monitors and whispering of "that's right motherfucker" to no one in particular. Done. |

So you don't have a CISM team? Your county doesn't have access to some type of CISM, maybe even the state? Are you saying no agency in your state has access to some type of crisis intervention? Not even an agreement or contract with the local hospital? Do you have hospitals in your area? Yikes!

And they probably should not be in law enforcement positions either. No argument from me. If they're so impaired by their problem that they're a walking "loose cannon," they probably SHOULD be doing something else. Not defending the officer here, just sayin' Some of his prior incidents may very well have given him some PTSD... a shame he couldn't have sought some treatment for it before going off on-camera, and getting himself fired. |

Nope, no city or county Attorney would let a department knowingly hire that lawsuit waiting to happen.
The first questionable thing he does and ends up in court, will be a pay day for the other side. He's done in law enforcement. Quoted:
My prediction? He'll get hired by another PD within a month. |

If another agency has hired him, they better keep a stack of blank checks at dispatch to start paying off the lawsuits connected with this guy. They already settled in the other incident. Holy crap! Maybe I should go back to Ohio and park on the road in this guy's beat while packing. I could use a financial windfall. Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: In other news, the same officer was hired by another dept on the other side of town. Link? I saw it on the front page of Hyperbole.com. |

Back before my wife decided to sober up she just about bit my thumb off one night. She was shitfaced as usual and I was sick of it. So in the course trying to calm her down without punching her lights out she decided to try and remove my thumb. TRYING to contain a 5'-1" woman who is a mix of Scott-Irish and Sioux with out hurting her is tough. So if this guy was stressed over some attempted cannibalism than he needs to work at the library. |

Thirty seconds of rage leads to a lifetime of being unemployable as a LEO. This guy has issues and regardless of what his past service was like his supervisors should have seen it and dealt with the issue, or they did see it before and chose to do nothing about it. He also should have taken steps to admit his problems and deal with them. Either way the guy had no business being out on patrol with his lack of self control.
He no doubt deserved to be fired because of his actions but I'm not going to sit and make fun of the guy. He has issues and hopefully he gets them addressed now. The unfortunate part is that these kinds of situations can usually be prevented because the signs of the problem are there before the person snaps. |

You feel bad for an officer that says that he should have "took two steps back, pulled my Glock 40 and just put 10 bullets in your [expletive] and let you drop" while his partner "would have been a nice witness as I executed you because you're stupid"? |

You gotta wonder why the departments make this video public. It reflects poorly on them. Obviously we expect the dept. to fire the guy and do the right thing, but they don't need to broadcast this stupidity to the public, especially their public. It just emboldens the scum citizens to be even worse. This cop is an idiot, no matter what his excuse would be. Another black stain on the Blue.

My prediction? He'll get hired by another PD within a month. Not likely, since he's claiming a medical disability (PTSD). If the do manage to fire him, no department is going to touch him with a 10 foot pole because of that. ETA: he's appealing the decision, so the fat lady hasn't sung yet... He can claim what he likes but he doesn't have PTSD. I wonder who diagnosed his PTSD? The guy's a first class A-Hole. |

I'm in no way trying to justify this power-tripping jerk's actions, but... Was Harless soliciting prostitutes at the time, or what? __________________________________________________________________ Cross-platform gun database/electronic bound book (v1.2) (and the original thread). «nolite confidere in principibus, in filiis hominum quibus non est salus» Is your question relevant to the situation? If the ccw holder was or was not soliciting has no bearinv on the actions of the ex-police officer. If you have watchedthe original video you may remember that the ccw holder tried on several occasskons to state he was carrying and was told in no uncertain terms to stfu or violence would be visited upon him.....
ETA: I ask simply because not soliciting prostitutes might be a good way to avoid over-the-top asshole cops doing their whole asshole thing. __________________________________________________________________ Cross-platform gun database/electronic bound book (v1.2) (and the original thread). «nolite confidere in principibus, in filiis hominum quibus non est salus» It doesn't matter, its not professional, police officers are expected to be professional. | Good that he got fired. Now that he raised PTSD, he opens for himself a can of worms. This should have been known by the agency prior to hiring him. Also the agency can do a discovery to learn his entire medical and mental history. If he lied or covered up anything he could be fired anyway. |

The "department" knew damn well what they had in officer Harless, this wasn't his first rodeo. It became public because the threatened, arrested, and bogusly charged CCW holder's defense attorney gave the PD and the officer a well deserved kick in the nuts to go along with his big fat pay day. |
