[ARCHIVED THREAD] - New EE ad volume way down (Page 3 of 9)

Quoted: For new sellers. It's one way how they're combatting scammers. It is what it is. Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: https://www.reddit.com/r/GunAccessoriesForSale/ No FFL items though, and certain other things. They change rules all the time. Just know they also have a fuckton of post requirements now thanks to morons getting scammed. Also some mods have thin skin and are rather ban happy. Not only will you be buying/selling/trading with some of the low IQ morons getting scammed, but keep in mind with how left reddit leans, there's a good chance you may end up buying or selling something from/to antifa soldiers - if you aren't gonna lose any sleep over that. That said the sales volume is good, and people usually ask more realistic prices than what's on the EE here. Looks like the only payment method is PP G&S. No PayPal for me. For new sellers. It's one way how they're combatting scammers. It is what it is. And not very effective, seeing as how scammers switched to impersonating mods/stealing passwords of high flair/feedback accounts and the staff are sending announcements almost every week about it. |

Quoted: I know how to do it, I've done it. If there's a way to bump it then I just be blind or stupid because I've just been deleting and reposting. Or more realistically just going to Reddit where it sells ten times quicker. Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: I have several things I need to offload but I suck at the new EE so I've just been using Reddit. seriously, you suck? You don't suck, just fill in the boxes and write your same description Add some photos from your phone/tablet And post I know how to do it, I've done it. If there's a way to bump it then I just be blind or stupid because I've just been deleting and reposting. Or more realistically just going to Reddit where it sells ten times quicker. |

Holy shit

It’s significantly down. Used to be I’d have a new ad bumped off the first page in the more popular sections (any of the AR upper/lower parts, optics, etc) in 12-24hrs. I posted an ad about 12hrs ago in one of those and there’s only been about 12 ads posted since then (50 per page). I’m sure things will pick back up as people get accustomed to the new format, but this rollout has been kind of shitty. The “new” EE view with everything lumped together is crap. Yes, you can filter, but it’s still an unneeded annoyance. Rolling this out partially and allowing the old view is pretty stupid as well. Pick one and go with it. It also doesn’t appear you can “comment” in the new view, which is a drastic shift from the old system. Not being able to lump a bunch of parts together in a single ad is also hugely annoying and I think will drive a lot of people away from selling here. |
Quoted: Honestly yes I think that is better. Problem is you are limited to 10 items if you are a paying member in the new EE. Where alot of us would post 10 items in one ad before to keep the clutter down. It's an attempt to force more people to become vendors and make some cash. Reality is most of us are just offloading the shit we don't use at a loss. No profit involved. So I don't feel like paying for the service. |
Quoted: You likely have never been involved in a dispute or dealings with another member over a sale, You are lucky and I get why this looks like a change that has no purpose. I'm glad we completely revamped something that worked for 99% of users to satisfy the 1%. In 10 years I've never been burned. You just have to use your head when dealing with people on the internet. |
Quoted: How is it harder to browse? It’s the same categories. It's clunky at best making it more difficult to browse categories without extra clicks or using those filters. The font on the left menu item is all jumbled together unlike the cleanly spaced items in the old EE. Attached File Compared to: Attached File |

Quoted: Was looking for some 92 parts today and noticed that the new EE looked to have less than hand the volume of the old EE For me, pictures in the title doesn't do anything for me since I look at the forum on my phone 90% of the time. I don't hate the new EE but the old EE has worked fine for me over the years |
Quoted: Quoted: I was going to start a new watch box clean out thread with 50 or so pieces. You want the EE clogged with 50 plus individual ads? ![]() https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/421774/IMG_4988_png-3168548.JPG Yep. You snapped that as I was still posting. I'd have done 4 ads under the old system. With the new system, I did what they wanted. It is easier now to track who I sold what to. I would prefer a way to have multiple listings in one ad to avoid just what I had to do. |
Quoted: This, I would like to see a petition started to go back to the old format They've stated that they will not go back to the old format no matter how many members are upset with the changes. User satisfaction comes secondary to the validation of their work. |
Quoted: This, the ability to directly post pictures instead of putting in web code is a huge improvement alone. I can only imagine how hard it must be for some of you to use the internet. They litterly make it easier and people complain, typical GD. Says the guy with 10 feedback? lol That’s not a personal attack, but an observation, since you are so dismissive of the complaints of others. I’ve been here since the beginning, and the most recent version of the EE was by far the most efficient and user-friendly. |
How is it that the “traffic hasn’t fallen off a cliff” yet so many members who browse this every day, multiple times a day have a sense that that is in fact what happened? Now it may be the ads are not bumping and that is part of the visual thing, but that’s obviously another issue that hasn’t been fixed yet given multiple complaints about their ads not getting bumped? One thing I’ve seen is a lot of folks who were satisfied with the old format claiming they’re not going to use the new format. I have not seen a single post saying that they refused to use the old format but love the new one and now will start selling stuff. |
Quoted: They've stated that they will not go back to the old format no matter how many members are upset with the changes. User satisfaction comes secondary to the validation of their work. Which is their choice...but they shouldn't wonder when membership continues to dwindle. |
Quoted: Start a statewide signal group. I have bought, sold, and traded a metric shit ton of stuff in ours. Bump when you want, take any payment you want, easily give feedback. Win win. Attached File Also the FEDs in the group give really great prices on the black and grey market stuff! |

Quoted: You wanna see a site dry up and die? That's how it would happen. Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: You want to see pissed? Just wait till the 1099k's start flowing. Quote for posterity. You wanna see a site dry up and die? That's how it would happen. They won't have any option once its fully monetized. Not doing this would be a great way for the IRS to shut down the site. ETA: Honestly with the current change and how it's being tracked I don't see how it wouldn't be required now. It's being phased in over time so it's going to be $5k in 24' and will get down to the $600 limit whenever the IRS feels like. |
Quoted: Has anyone else noticed how slowly new ads are appearing in the EE? I’m specifically looking for an SSA-E, which used to be easy to find in the used lower section, I’m seeing only about one new ad every 3-4 hours. I miss the old days when there were lots of ads, I would even welcome no pics ![]() I feel like things are slower. I haven't gotten one lowball offer.

Quoted: There were no problems who never had an issue with the EE which is likely a majority if people. The disputes. And time taken by staff to resolve them was likely the biggest issue. The new EE helps address this Quoted: Quoted: The problem with the EE was fixed. Only there wasn’t a problem with the EE. I’ve watched companies I worked for spend lots of money and resources to fix problems that didn’t exist. There were no problems who never had an issue with the EE which is likely a majority if people. The disputes. And time taken by staff to resolve them was likely the biggest issue. The new EE helps address this At the expense of everyone else....well done, amirite? These are steps that failing companies/sites engage in....fixing problems that don't exist by pretending the change wasn't made explicitly for folks who run the site is a big step towards total failure. A shitload of folks joined this site specifically because of EE. This will push them away to sites like Reddit and Tacswap and others. |

https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-announces-2023-form-1099-k-reporting-threshold-delay-for-third-party-platform-payments-plans-for-a-5000-threshold-in-2024-to-phase-in-implementation FS-2023-27, Nov. 2023 Following feedback from taxpayers, tax professionals, and payment processors and to reduce taxpayer confusion, the Internal Revenue Service delayed the new $600 Form 1099-K reporting threshold requirement for third party payment organizations for tax year 2023 and is planning a threshold of $5,000 for 2024 to phase in the new law. Third party payment organizations include many popular payment apps and online marketplaces. The agency is making 2023 another transition year to implement the new requirements under the American Rescue Plan that changed the Form 1099-K reporting threshold for payments taxpayers get selling goods or providing a service over $600. The previous reporting thresholds will remain in place for 2023. What this means This means that for 2023 and prior years, payment apps and online marketplaces are only required to send out Forms 1099-K to taxpayers who receive over $20,000 and have over 200 transactions. For tax year 2024, the IRS plans for a threshold of $5,000 to phase in reporting requirements. This phased-in approach will allow the agency to review its operational processes to better address taxpayer and stakeholder concerns. Taxpayers should be aware that while the reporting threshold remains over $20,000 and 200 transactions for 2023, companies could still issue the form for any amount. It's important to note that the higher threshold does not affect the actual tax law to report income on your tax return. All income, no matter the amount, is taxable unless it's excluded by law whether a Form 1099-K is sent or not. Who gets the form The Form 1099-K could be sent to anyone who's using payment apps or online marketplaces to accept payments for selling goods or providing services. This includes people with side hustles, small businesses, crafters and other sole proprietors. However, it could also include casual sellers who sold personal stuff like clothing, furniture and other household items that they paid more than they sold it for. Selling items at a loss is not actually taxable income but would have generated many Forms 1099-K for many people with the $600 threshold. This complexity contributed to the IRS decision to delay the additional year to provide the agency time to update its operations to make it easier for taxpayers to report the amounts on their forms. |

I was cautiously optimistic with the work Subnet was doing on it. You could see (and use) a demo of it for at least the last 6 months (pinned in the EE, ironically). However, admittedly, it's still "meh". For the record, I work in the IT space as well. I'm one of those who usually post a couple ads a week and I haven't done so since the new one dropped. I'm sure I will at some point, but it isn't worth the effort right now. From the perspective of users, the biggest issue was probably scammers with "lack of pics" (and/or pic hosting) a distant second. Beyond those, I'm not sure what issues existed from the users' perspective. From the management perspective, I think the issues were more plentiful. Have they ever released a list of the goals they were trying to achieve by the redesign? |
| Well I broke down and gave it a try a few mins ago. I guess I'll find out first hand how well it works. I will say this though, it wasn't all that hard to post an ad and the pic uploader was easy enough and should fix the main gripe of the old EE which was the no picture ads. |

FIRS and Brownells for ruining something that worked perfectly fine for years and brought a lot of entertainment to a lot of people. I think this realization of the gov't being involved in your sales will really sour people on the whole thing. I can't think of any site on the internet that wouldn't draw more scrutiny on themselves than this one in that regard so I suspect the IRS will probably assign employees only do deal with transactions made here. I highly doubt they fully comprehend the can of worms this will open and how much money in compliance costs they just created. Once that spotlight is turned on and the reporting limit hits $600 it wouldn't surprise me at all if the EE ends up gone forever. Just think about how much in fee's they would need to collect to pay the CPA's and tax attorneys to stay in compliance, not to mention everyone's personal data being handed over. ETA: I guess another way to look at this is that the change was made with that compliance in mind since perhaps it was already considered an "online marketplace" and this was all a guise to make that tracking possible. |
| I believe the change has nothing to do with scammers and everything to do with moving to a monetized system so that Brownells can get their cut. With that, eventually they will be “required” to issue 1099s because “it’s the law”. I also see it as an easier way for daddy gov to track transactions, although that is probably an unintended consequence. The mods can deny this all they want but feel free to quote and we’ll see where we are a year from now. Either way, I doubt they will ever go back to the old EE so we’ll either deal with it or go somewhere else. |
