None can be used though, its suicide. At this point in our history we have the means of killing Kim Jung Un and most of his ministers without needing to resort to nukes. We just lack the provocation to do it. Meanwhile, while Kim has the ability to fuck up South Korea, if he so much as harms the hair of a single ROK citizen or America he provides the provocation Trump and Mattis are waiting for to attack. Right now we're at an impasse. Neither side actually wants to fight, but in order to get what each side wants diplomatically, they must constantly use increase rhetoric because rhetoric is the only weapon they can freely use.

And there is no way to know that it won't happen again. We have low numbers of aircraft with questionable or non existent combat records. That is not the position to be in when picking a fight with proven aircraft, Soviet trash as they may be.
Not to even get started on how many missiles did not perform correctly or hit their target out of the ones fired in the last 30 years. An air campaign against anyone other than an Arab flying monkey models is not something we want to do.

Eta: Not saying that we would lose or even come close to losing, but the losses are probably going to be vastly higher that McNamara paper war gaming leads one to believe.

I dont understand why we wait, the longer we wait the bigger a problem they will be in the future. Stike now while their missle range and nuclear technology is limited. A surgical strike with stealth bomber/fighters can could easily wipe out their nuclear capabilities in a matter of minutes. left with cold ware ear technology they wouldnt stand a chance.

Because Trump doesn't have the political capital to just launch unilaterial preemptive strike against NK that will most certainly end up killing tens of thousands of our allies just because he lacks patience. North Korea has always held strategic weapons that prevented that sort of war from happening, now its a bit stronger since they have nukes but previously they could have launched an invasion of SK too, hit Japan with SCUDs, used their vast stockpike of chemical and biological weapons.

What Trump is doing isn't an attempt to start a war. He's sinking North Korea by destroying its economy through sanctions and embargoes, through (some might doubt it, but all current indications are that the PRC is on board). But that's going to take years before the full effect happens, in the mean time the only real way the North Koreans can react that isn't capitulation or suicide is to saber rattle. While saber rattling makes people like Clinton and Obama to shit themselves and fold, Trump seems to enjoy it, helped that he has some of the greatest military minds of the time working in the White House briefing him, say what you will about them politically but Mattis, Kelly, McMaster, and Dunford are all rock solid combat leaders who are all known for being a bit more than crayon eaters. So Trump knows full well what NK can do and what they can't. They can't start the war, if they do while they can hurt us they all commit suicide, and contrary to how most people view the North Koreans suicide is not their thing, they want to survive.

Get used to this sort of saber rattling on both sides, its going to be the new normal for not only US-DPRK relations, but also US-Russian relations too. And soon Trump is going to do the same thing he's doing to NK to Iran, and the rhetoric is going to be just as aggressive. Because that's how negotiations in geopolitics work when faggots from the US State Dept 7th floor aren't running shit anymore.

We've got a lot of assets but nowhere near enough to wipe everything out in one volley. We're talking about months of 24/7 air operations to level everything. As it sits, they really don't have many options right now. Starting a conflict just leads to their inevitable demise. Once they start shooting we begin to grind them away. If they choose to use a nuclear device we will make them disappear even faster.
