Collard greens are delicious when harvested just after the first frost (savory and tender!) and prepared by somebody who knows how to cook them.

Ha! Me too!

Cold, left over from last night.

I do prefer turnip greens myself though.

This.  I don't even get why that's offensive.  I guess getting a burr up your ass over any and all references to race, ethnicity, or culture made by any group other than your own is a membership requirement of the Perpetually Aggrieved

"Hey, you French person; you want some pate fois gras?"

"Mais oui!"

My first ship had a mostly black galley staff.  "Southern" (aka soul food) night was the best fucking meal on the chow rotation

And..."Soul Food" is really just "Southern Food"...it's the same stuff I grew up on, and I imagine most guys from the South did as well.

I too like fried chicken, greens, watermelon, etc...

They have "Diversity Days" at work, one of the days of the month they set something up in the cafeteria with displays and sometimes food. During black history month they give out fried chicken, collared greens and watermelon. Now it's blacks doing this. I'm sure if my white ass were to bring those in for black history month I'd be in HR or fired pronto.

This.  I don't know why blacks are thought to be the only ones who eat this.  I thought everybody liked these.  I'll put myself up against any black man alive on how much fried chicken I've eaten.

I think you can include white people, Jews, Asians, and anyone else born and raised in the NE on your list.

I have never eaten a 'green', particularly a 'collard' one. Since they're green, aren't they all collard?

(That's a joke about southern dialects. People from the NE will think it's funny. People from the south won't get it.)

If eating this menu gets you a black card, I may have to apply for reparations.

I love me some greens.  But as another poster above mentioned, I have to make them with smoked jowl.  If I see bacon in my greens, I know some damn Yankee is trying to be all that.

In the 6 military bases I've been stationed at over 15 plus years we have always had a black history month luncheon planned by the black history committee made up of African Americans. Every year the menu chosen by the committee has been: fried chicken, ribs, greens, mac and cheese, cornbread watermelon etc. So I guess that's not racist unless you're white.
