Reminds me of the problem of most ready "kits" not having what you really need, or decent quality. First aid, tools, I usually just build my own. Since I'm almost never off my property, I have a few bags I'll toss what I need in for the right now job.
Still get most of my needs done with an adjustable wrench and vampliers. Recently got a pair of knipex pliers and love em. Probably going to get a bigger size at some point, but right now I'm in love with a basic adjustable with a spike on it. Heard it called construction wrench, or spud wrench. Either way, it's make it easier to hook junk up to the 3 point hitch. And yet yesterday I got a decent amount of work done with a hatchet hung from my belt, vampliers in my pocket, and small bolt cutters. It's all about knowing what you will likely be doing. |

Quoted: I really need a 1/4" drive socket set for my mini kit. I'd really like a minimalist sae/metric set that isn't full body size on the smaller hex sizes and is organized in a rubber sleeve. I haven't been able to find such an animal. Only want the sockets. Already have a Wiha mini ratchet and drive bit set to pair it with. View Quote The best way I have found to store small sockets in a kit is on a piece of threaded rod. They stack pretty well and never get lost. It's a pain to restack them, but worth it. If you number them, they go back on easier. I put all the 1/4" sockets I used in a year and ended up with these 9 and haven't had to grab another since. They are a mix of English and metric. The combo ratchet allows me to use a 1/4" extension and is really handy, this is also my 1/4" socket for sheet metal screws. The whole socket kit weighs about a pound and fits in my pocket: Attached File Attached File I find the long extension is extremely helpful and tried to pick as slim of an extension as possible. Nice kits!
I have kits in the trunk of every vehicle, but just use a basic tool bag, nothing as compact as some of your setups. |
|
OP needs to post a detailed link to buy everything in his kit.
K Thx. |
|
Placeholder for me to post my mini kit. I EDC a few parts of it for work but otherwise it lives in my truck as a "grab bag" for light duty tinkering and still needs lots of work
Oh and Knipex gang gang |
|
Bump. Picked up a small knipex plier and a thumb drive screwdriver set with bits on my lunch break. OP is already costing me money.
Great addition to the road trip backpack. |

Here's what lives in the drawer of my desk at work. I've got a pretty full toolbox about 8 feet from me, but I'm lazy.
I've actually developed some form of OCD regarding tools. I feel the need to have full sets of hand tools in every location in my life. Including my garage/shop, my home office/gun room, my vehicles, my utility trailer, my personal work office, the main office area, and probably some others. And, you guys have got me turned on to all these German and Japanese brands, so it's not exactly cheap. Power tools are a whole other thing. Similar, but more complicated. Attached File |

thanks OP, that's a cool way to lay stuff out and keep it organized. I have the same pouch that I've been using as a first aid kit in my truck forever. The individual areas to store shit is super helpful.
I keep a basically full tool set in the truck and I finally organized my whole garage. I still have to grab what I need but damn near everything in my house requires a trip back to the garage when I need "one" more damn different thing. |

View Quote I'll bet it will end up saving money.. I end up just buying another widget whenever I can't find what I need, when I need it! Then, about when you're putting the new one away, you find the one you knew you had in the first place. Ughhh, indeed! Nice work, OP! Too bad I'll still be the disorganized 'tard digging through tool bags, boxes, drawers and work tables to find what I'll end up buying again, again. |

I usually carry mine around in my Ford F150 branded mobile tool box....
Honestly though it seems to be the perks/downside of driving a company vehicle with most of your tools in it already. My edc(SAK cybertool w/ bits, mini pry, fully serrated knife i.e. pocket saw, box cutter, adjustable wrench, flashlight, and pen) is the closest thing I have to a mini tool kit. If it can't be done with any of those it's a sign to go grab the proper tool. Eta: Attached File My only complaint is that the adjustable wrench isn't open ended. So it is semi limited. |

This damn place costs me so much money.
I’ll add one thing I didn’t see in the kit. A telescoping magnetic pen. Small and can save the day. I hit up Lowe’s/HD during Black Friday times as they always have mini tool kits for cheap. Can use those to populate your kit. |

I've got a much smaller kit that I take with me everywhere. It's a pouch that clips onto my belt, I think it's intended to be a phone holder but it's great for the 6 or 8 small tools I use daily. It goes with me pretty much every time I walk out of my office.
I gotta re-up my membership so I can post pictures easily from my phone. |

I'll post pics of mine tomorrow. I use it almost every day even just at my house instead of walking out to my toolbox out in the garage. I used it to take apart my stopped up vacuum and fix my microwave today. |

I put this one together about 6 or 7 years ago and I use it all the time. In fact, I just used it last night to repair some storage lockers, and it was perfect and handy.
I'm not the guy in the video and I can't remember how I found him originally but this is a well thought out kit and super easy to keep around because of its small size. I tweaked it a little bit for my own use, and I'll post some pics later. I haven't caught up on his channel in years but I plan to do that over the weekend and see what else he's come up with...I do wonder if he is a member here.
