Awesome. It needs invasion stripes though. Now he needs to build a Hurricane and he's good to go

you wouldn't be able to fly outta state unless you had approved 5320.20's for the MG's, and you were flying to a state that was NFA friendly... as an aside, to the OP: how close to original are the specs on that plane? were the wings on the original actually one giant piece of wood? |
Wanker! It's 8, .303 Vickers. or 4, 20mm. ETA: Beautiful plane!!! |
No, the original was all aluminum. The shape dimensions are as close as could be gotten with the exception of the engine cowl. The original used a Merlin V12 not an Allison and the induction systems for the two engines are quite different. |

NIce....
But if I was going to do a WWII plane repro: 1) I would have done a P-51D... -AND- 2) I would have made full use of modern construction materials AND engine design... Why go for a P-40 motor when you can get a lighter, more powerful & more efficient motor????? 3) I would NOT have had ANY wood anywhere in the plane... Wood rots... |
I see your WOW fucking WOW!! and your + Fucking 1!! and raise you a ZOMFG!!!1!!one!! |
That's fucking awsome.
Tell your buddy about my trip down to see Rudy Frasca's operation, where he had TWO Spitfires taken from some desert in India. (for some reason I thought I remembered that they were recovered from Indonesia, but that's not what it says on the site). They were the real deal, yet in varying states of decay waiting on restoration. I believe there were two of them to salvage enough parts to complete one, but not totally sure about that. That airplane your buddy built is just plain slick. He should be very proud. This photo is pathetic relative to the majesty of the bird, but all I could find: Frasca Spitfire Cockpit |
You and I both. Check out Flugwerk. I think you'll like what you find. Hope you got a spare buck or two. By the way, that's a cool friend you have there. |
Totally awesome!
Hehe this is something that makes those machine gun owners feel like us non-machine gun owners He has a better toy. |
All I have is a modest collection of firearms
That is one of the coolest things I've ever heard of someone doing. The Spitfire is one of the most beautiful aircraft ever built, IMO. Very nice work! |
Here you go |
To bad the pilots are still in them which makes them a historic graven and Royal Navy wants them un touched. |
Any idea how many ducketts he has invested in that thing? Damn it's purdy!!
Sweet!!!
There's a guy on my mail route that builds kit planes in his garage. Nothing like your friends Spit. |
That is indescribably awesome.
One of the most famous planes ever built and he has one, AND he built it himself. I should take a look at it if possible next time I go up to J&G Gun sales in Prescott. |
yep. national geographic was going to bring them up a few years back. British .gov told them, "no way!" |
Any idea if the planes were RN marked or USN. I know they were out of Sanford when that place was a training station... It'd be neat if they were RN planes. A little more on the rare side. Kinda like that T-34 tank that was taken out from a lake in Europe, turns out it was captured German complete with German markings...looked like it driven in the lake yesterday. |

Nice plane, reminded me of this video clip, Spitfire Fly Over.
My friend is building one for himself atm, here in Finland. He ordered a blueprints from Canada, imho? It's a surprisingly long project, when you don't have enough money and time to put into it
Nice pics... I have to show them to my friend :) |
I don't think he could charge for rides. I'm not sure but I would think he had to register it as an experimental. I'm pretty sure experimentals can't be used for commercial purposes. |
whens he gonna build the BF109E? Nice machine hes built all the same
DAAAAMN!
and I thought I was the cool kid, playing with race cars and all. It seems I have just been up-staged by a great margin. It is just too damn cool, hey if it dosen't exist ,lets just build it. Gotta love America. can I roll with you guys? |
that is just incredible!
what a beautifil aircraft, and the "oh yeah, built it myself" just blows my mind. |
I'm inspired! I'll get started on mine this weekend. Let you guys know in 40 years how it turns out...
TAG....for 40 years down the road |
What are those boxy things under the wings that look like TV Projectors?
Ok, now I'm putting on Aces High by Iron Maiden. That's like the best model airplane ever.
On the original, Radiator Housings (and Oil Cooler too, IIRC). |
Tell your friend, he should go into producing them and retire all over again a
VERY wealthy man, thanks for sharing it with us. He definitely should be on the ARFCOM Honor role if there were such a thing. |
