Awesome.  It needs invasion stripes though.  Now he needs to build a Hurricane and he's good to go

So, how much does he have sunk into the 6 transferable .50 cal belt feds in the wings?

I wonder if there is any law preventing one from arming aircraft.

you wouldn't be able to fly outta state unless you had approved 5320.20's for the MG's, and you were flying to a state that was NFA friendly...

as an aside, to the OP:

how close to original are the specs on that plane? were the wings on the original actually one giant piece of wood?

No, the original was all aluminum.
The shape dimensions are as close as could be gotten with the exception of the engine cowl.
The original used a Merlin V12 not an Allison and the induction systems for the two engines are quite different.

NIce....

But if I was going to do a WWII plane repro:

1) I would have done a P-51D...

-AND-

2) I would have made full use of modern construction materials AND engine design... Why go for a P-40 motor when you can get a lighter, more powerful & more efficient motor?????

3) I would NOT have had ANY wood anywhere in the plane... Wood rots...

That's fucking awsome.

Tell your buddy about my trip down to see Rudy Frasca's operation, where he
had TWO Spitfires taken from some desert in India. (for some reason I thought
I remembered that they were recovered from Indonesia, but that's not what it
says on the site).

They were the real deal, yet in varying states of decay waiting on restoration. I believe
there were two of them to salvage enough parts to complete one, but not totally sure
about that.

That airplane your buddy built is just plain slick. He should be very proud.

This photo is pathetic relative to the majesty of the bird, but all I could find:

That is one of the coolest things I've ever heard of someone doing.  The Spitfire is one of the most beautiful aircraft ever built, IMO.  Very nice work!

To bad the pilots are still in them which makes them a historic graven and Royal Navy wants them un touched.

I should take a look at it if possible next time I go up to J&G Gun sales in Prescott.

Any idea if the planes were RN marked or USN. I know they were out of Sanford when that place was a training station... It'd be neat if they were RN planes. A little more on the rare side. Kinda like that T-34 tank that was taken out from a lake in Europe, turns out it was captured German complete with German markings...looked like it driven in the lake yesterday.

My friend is building one for himself atm, here in Finland. He ordered a blueprints from Canada, imho? It's a surprisingly long project, when you don't have enough money and time to put into it

I don't think he could charge for rides.  I'm not sure but I would think he had to register it as an experimental.  I'm pretty sure experimentals can't be used for commercial purposes.

Tell your friend, he should go into producing them and retire all over again a
VERY wealthy man, thanks for sharing it with us. He definitely should be on the
