I have no doubt that MLK would admonish R Nagin for what he said. MLK told me personally on a dream.

"I said, `What is it going to take for us to move on and live your dream and make it a reality?' He said, `I don't think that we need to pay attention any more as much about other folks and racists on the other side.' He said, `The thing we need to focus on as a community — black folks I'm talking about — is ourselves.'"

Nagin said he also asked: "Why is black-on-black crime such an issue? Why do our young men hate each other so much that they look their brother in the face and they will take a gun and kill him in cold blood?"

The reply, Nagin said, was: "We as a people need to fix ourselves first."

Nagin also said King would have been dismayed with black leaders who are "most of the time tearing each other down publicly for the delight of many."

A day earlier, gunfire erupted at a parade to commemorate King's birthday. Three people were wounded in the daylight shooting amid a throng of mostly black spectators, but police said there were no immediate suspects or witnesses."

Gosh, Ray. Seems like if God really wanted it that way he wouldn't have brought the storm.

I suspect that most of those who fled New Orleans will stay where they are. If they do, it will probably be the best thing that ever happened to New Orleans.

I love this guy. Right now there are thousands of people from everywhere but New Orleans rebuilding the city, and this asshole is travelling the country telling them that they are the only ones who should have it. I'm hoping that the Mexicans take it over. At least they came out to fix it. Nuevo Orleans seems to be a preferrable alternative to the way it was.

Of note:

About a year before the Hurricane, I was over in NOLA for a fund raiser, the mayor was there... He had zero problems with hitting on my white girlfriend while I was in the bathroom... I told him to beat it

When I went back to NOLA to do some business this past Dec, I see all these signs for work... I have heard all these stories about lack of people to work. I saw more fucking people standing around, doing not jack shit. Go figure. The mexicans I saw were busting their ass and they weren't even from NOLA.

I was born there, I have family there, I was sad to see it's current state, and I used to love the place... Now I can wholeheartedly say, I don't give a shit about NOLA for the most part.
Needless to say, my opinion didn't go over well while I was back there... Igors made it okay though
