The executive branch holds veto authority. Not veto attempt was made on the amnesty bill nor when the Hughes was added last minute to the FOPA (after failing the house vote controlled by democrats). Then Reagan's personal remarks in favor of banning assault weapons when he wasn't even in office have nothing to do with Democrats. Reagan was an enemy to gun owners and should be remembered correctly for that.

Oh bullshit. He was advised by the NRA (and don't bother with the nonsense the NRA "is really a stealth gun control group") to sign the FOPA because the MG ban only affected a tiny percentage of gun owners and was so blatantly unconstitutional it was sure to be struck down later. His comments about the AWB were released on his behalf by his goofy wife--AFTER he had alzheimers. He was approached to ban guns after the attempt on his life and he ran the Dems off. Banning handguns was all the rage back then, as "assault weapons" weren't even (mis)named that in the early 1980s. Try again.
ETA: Forgot to mention the amnesty. That was a double-cross by the Dems. An agreement was reached to grant amnesty to the 3 million already here, then build a wall and STOP further incursions/invasions. The Dems reneged. Reagan bargained in good faith and learned the Dems are duplicitous.
