It's the end of the world, right? Trade the guns for beer and pussy.

12ga pump. Right now my 20ga 870 gets more use than anything I own.

I figured "end of the world" was literal, just a little time for "round the world" and a cold one. If it's gonna be more protracted, I'm leaning more toward your plan. |

pump .22 grew up on one.. it was never cleaned and never had an issue

One weapon? Pump shotgun for sure. Probably an 870, although a Mossberg 500 is an acceptable option. Just let me have a combat wheelbarrow full of slugs, buck shot and #4 loads to haul to my hide to feed the thing with.
Bolt action. Center fire. Preferably a good quality example from a reputable manufacturer, such as Browning, Remington, Winchester, etc. |
Give me a pump shotgun.
Multitude of uses (defense, hunting, etc). |
First thought was a 870, but the more I think about it I'd probably go with a 5 1/2 inch Ruger Redhawk. Suitable for any size game in my area plus it's able to be carried in a holster on me at all times.
If the end of the world is anything like deer season the moment I set my gun down the zombies will pop up. I want to be able to draw my weapon and bust a cap in Mr. Zombie all the while I continue to piss on that tree. |
Just one? No way!
I will want a mix of modern and muzzleloading firearms. I want the modern guns for gunfights, I will use the flintlock firearms for hunting and pest control to conserve modern ammunition as I can produce my own flints, gunpowder, and ball at home. |
I'm torn between a pump-action shotgun and a lever-action center-fire, so I voted pump-action shotty.
Straight walled cases are much easier to reload, correct? Aren't there "handheld" loaders for them?
Seems a revolver in .357 would be a good choice for longevity. Shoots .357 and 38 Special, both popular cartridges. Cases are retained after firing. Cartridges are easily reloadable. Only consumable difficult to find would be primers. |

Walking , horseback or in my truck, I take my Win 94 30-30 with me everywhere.
I'll go with the pump shotgun. If I could truly only have one gun, that would probably be the most useful.

Lever in .357. I'd hope to find a revolver chambered for it later. Oh, that would be a good choice as well. Good answer. |

But it can't be a semi or select fire. Were they raptured? |
Voted with my wallet. Mossberg 500. A couple of barrels and a range of ammo will cover any range I can see from from my territory and the thing will not quit. I believe it is more reliable than an AK and puts more lead on target than anything short of a .50 BMG at the ranges I need here. Only drawback is ammo weight, comes with the territory.

Duh. The North American Arms super-zombie-killer model. |
Quoted: Lever action centerfire. Marlin 1894c to be more specific. Agreed. I love mine. |

rifled blackpowdered rifle.....speedballs. Never heard of speedballs. Will they hit accurately at 500 yards like a Minie ball will? |

Stupid poll is stupid. I hate these damn polls that don't allow the choice you'd actually make to even be considered. Lever action centerfire given the options. Well than petition Goatboy for limitless options in polls. You could tell us what you'd choose if you're so inclined. I've seen to many petitions lately, I'll pass. AR of course with one of my Glocks as a side arm. When given a choice, why take something limited to 5 rounds when you have 30? Especially when you'll need them. Because the exercise is to get you to think of what you would choose if an AR or other modern military style rifle was not an option. Yeah but it's always an option. I would venture to guess 90% of people on the board have them if not more than one. do you think its that high really? I was just wondering the other day how many people actually own an AR here....... |

Daisy Red Ryder...
- Cheap ammo - Lightweight - Reliable - Inexpensive - Light recoil - 650 round capacity - Proven action - Adjustable sights |
12 gauge pump or revolver, I'm torn. The revolver would certainly prove more handy to have on me, and make me look like less of a target, if things are still somewhat civil. 12 gauge pump is probably one of the most versatile weapons out there. If I could get a short barrel for the shotgun, then that might work.
I would choose a drilling, 12 ga. over 8mm. Two shotgun barrels over a rifle would be hard to be during those difficult times. My other choice would be a center fire rifle barrel over a 12 or 20 gauge barrel, similar to the old Stevens multi caliber guns.

bolt action 30-06 or 308
probably my FN built Winchester Model 70 |
I voted for Bolt action centerfire and my choice would be a Rem 700 or Win 70 in 30-06. Most likely you will never run out of parts and ammo would not be an issue.

22lr.
For small game up to whitetail will work with good placement. Centerfire rounds will destroy small game, no food. Unless we are talking zombies, 12ga pump. |
357 lever action. Can use 38 sp too. One of the easiest rounds to reload for. Can be reloaded with blackpowder if you had to.
Can cast bullets using wheel weights or fishing weights. You get the idea. |
Pump action shotgun. The variety of ammunition makes it the obvious choice if you are forced to choose one and one only.
Remington 700 in 6mm. Give me an hour, and I will have any gun I want, plus my 700 that is plenty accurate for any feasible needs. I have enough ammo to last me a damn long time, plus I have components to make a whole lot more.
