There sure is a lot of ass holes on here. Just remember, that neighbor you are about to piss off may be the one to knock on your door at 3:00 am telling you your house is on fire. Don't piss off a neighbor over trivial matters.

On my street, we have mailboxes on our porches...or a mail slot in the door. If the mailbox is federal property, should the government buy me a new door? Of can I cut a hole in my neighbors door and ask that my mail be delivered there? If mailboxes are on an easement. Don't believe these people! They are probably already on google earth planning a trip to your ( or not your) yard to plant their own mailbox. If you let this slide it's gonna end up like a trailer park 2x4 with 15 mailboxes on it, in your front yard...and you'll be mulching it all.
|
|
Mulch around here often goes for $1 a bag. You may want to splurge and help a neighbor out.
I help my neighbors and they return favors as well. Keeps a healthy relationship between us. |
|
I wouldn't want the neighbor over-improving the square foot under their mailbox and making me look sloppy.
|
|
I would probably ask if the neighbor would mind moving the mailbox to cluster the mail boxes in one spot and then apply mulch as needed.

This. If his mailbox is on your land, and he doesn't have an easement for it.......I'd just rip it out and deposit it on his driveway with a note "I found this on my land, here's a copy of the partition plat, see for yourself. Please re-install your mailbox on your land. Thanks for your cooperation. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I would move the mailbox off my property NOW. He is using you for your land. Next thing you know it will be a bird bath...then a slip and slide...then a pool. And he won't let you use it. Stop the encroachment now. |

Jeezus, some of you guys really need to find something better to occupy yourselves with...

It's the line of delivery for the Post Office. You can't do what you want with it as tampering with Federal property which is what a mail box is. Once a line of delivery is established, then its set for life unless you notify the local station Postmaster that there's a problem and you need to move the mailbox delivery and what solutions are available between you both and how the Carrier will then start redelivery of your mail. It's probably technically the town's property. View Quote It's highly unlikely that your property line is located exactly on the edge of the pavement. There is typically a ten to fifteen foot wide strip on either side of the road that belongs to the city/county/state. These two strips, plus the road/street itself, is known as the Right-of-Way and, while you don't actually own any part of it, the upkeep of the ROW on your side of the road is your responsibility. It is actually the local USPS postal inspector who actually decides where mail boxes are located. |
|
I'm surprised that UPSP didn't make you put the mailboxes side by side so their truck only has to stop once to deliver two locations.

I would put this question to the Postmaster General of the United States.
This is almost as serious a matter as removing the tags from mattresses. |

I would think the mail box has to be there. Not really you or your neighbor's choice place for it but codes of some sort has it there. It wouldn't apply to any features or landscape at or near the base of the box and the duty to maintain such features shall remain with the owner or party responsible for said maintenance.

all the mailboxes on on the same side in the country, so the rural mail driver makes one pass.
our maibox is a nice brick srtructure on the opposite side of the road. That neighbor mows to the road, and I weedeat around my mailbox. your neighbor should weedeat his mailbox whenever he mows. |

In my area, ALL mailboxes are on the same side of the road as required by the Post Office. The boxes are located in the easement. The neighbors simply can't do what you think they can do. It's a genuine First World nonissue. View Quote |

People are We had our whole cluster of mail boxes hit by a car and knocked down. I went went out with a jackhammer, finished removing posts and installed 2 new ones so I could reset the entire stand. Neighbor came over after the new posts were set and brought a few beers and helped finish it off. Of the 6 or 7 that use that stand, all but one thanked me. Life's too short. View Quote My mailbox is getting shabby and so is the woman's next door.We share a post. Next time I am at Lowes I will snag 2 cans of spray paint and spray both of them. Inside of 2 weeks from that I will be invited over for a steak dinner and some good wine. A can of spray paint is under five bucks. The steak is worth a lot more than that. |

Lawyer up, sue.
Bring situation to the attention of City Council Stage marches , call Ashley Judd to speak Start gofundme page or you or your neighbor go to Lowes and buy a $2 bag of mulch and fix it. |

Let your HOA handle it.
I thought you lived on top of a mountain in the middle of 1000 acres. |

I had a similar set up but both the poles and boxes were jacked up. I asked my neighbor if they minded if I put both our boxes on the same pole, halfway between the two.
They were elated. We're friends now. |

So I should call them and tell them to come mulch and mow? The picture isn't to scale. The area between the trees and the mailbox is probably 10yards or so. How do I figure out how much easement there is? There's no utilities out there View Quote " 5553.03 Width of county roads.
